Just in the process of reading Sartre’s Being and Nothingness. I must say that Bataille’s idea about us desiring continuity seems to be exactly the same as Sartre’s idea of us wanting to become a “being in-itself”
Interesting. Yes, I think Bataille’s ideas are not very original, but maybe it has to be like that when you’re in the business of defining what the human really “Is”.
@@karl.andersson true. Then again, you can say that everything is simply down to our language, and that such questions are trivial in essence (Wittgenstein)
How do you take notes for maximum understanding and retention; and how do you revise your notes? Could you please make tutorial or write an easy written step-by-step instruction? Thanks.
I found it very hard to read, it’s very repetitive and the English translation has grammatical errors which make the long sentences even harder to understand. So it took a long time to read and part 2 of the book doesn’t add anything to the basic points. I could have mentioned all this, but yes, that’s the reason!
@@karl.andersson Bataille is a post modernist so it's expectable that he's hard to understand. I've read the same sentences in French and they're equally condensed of meaning. Still, he's not as bad as Deleuze, which is a relief if you're into philosophy.
@@ArcticxFox Actually I meant he’s up there on my reading list but along with some other guys so will take time. Any particular work by Deleuze you recommend?
It is such an exercise of mental gymnastics to see sex as a substitute for death. Post-modern ideas are just incredibly silly to me. Appreciate your summary though!
Hometown Cha cha cha brought me here. Interesting book. Thank you
Now you brought me to Hometown Cha cha cha - what a mystery!
@@karl.andersson it was mentioned briefly in Episode 11. Not the series that you might expect though
That show brought me here as well! 🙂
Same here
Same haha but google couldn’t provide a straight answer
"Fuck around in the abyss" is such a fun way to put it!
You speak so clearly I loved the video
Been thinking about this book since Hometown ChaChaCha

This was lovely to watch.
I don''t understand why don't recommend the book in the end? Am I missing something here?
