Just a heads up to anyone who does do this type of modification, Old Town states that the seats on the Saranac series are specifically made to reach to bottom of the vessel to provide all around structural support. Although possible removing these seats may result in bulges and or 'oil canning' to your canoe, excellent video however looks nice!
They do say that and it voids whatever warranty you may have left, but they also sell nearly identical models with seats with less structural support than what I did. I appreciate you watching and taking the time to leave a comment
The canoes bottom now has no support in the front half of the hull. If you watch it closely you will see the hull flex a lot. Those blow molded seats have floor contact for a very good reason. Inexpensive Old Town hulls are single layer thermoplastic and have no structural stability...support is required.
i like this idea, BUT the bottom of the canoe has no support and is very flexible, when you removed the front seat you also removed the support for the front half of the canoe bottom ... i am curious to see how the bottom looks in the water

All this did was mimic the design that old Town and others already have on other models.
How’s it working out. Any stability issues noticed since removing??.
Working fine. No issues that I've noticed
1/3 of the flotation gone, just like that!
Nah.
Im thinking of doing something similar. Any feedback on flex or weakness in the nose after the seat was removed?
No, the flex was mitigated because I added a brace. I only removed the seat because I needed the leg room that was beneath the seat.
@@TheMightyDel ok cool, im looking to make a solo canoe camping/fishing rig out of one. Thanks for responding
I just watched this and it is hilarious
