Musizierfreude pur, sowohl bei Christina Pluhar und ihrem Ensemble, als auch bei den Sängerinnen und Sängern. Da muß ein eingefleischter Feind des Musizierens auf historischem Instrumentarium schwach werden. Alles vollkommen, einfach SCHÖN! Und zu allem Überfluss die Schönheit von Nuria Rial. Manchmal ist der Himmel verschwenderisch mit seinen Gaben.

I traveled from Bangor,Maine, U.S.A. to Utrecht, 6694km, for the express purpose of attending this concert. It was well worth every km of travel and every Euro spent. L'Arpeggiata's performance was superb...Nuria Rial was brilliant The director of the video recording was very sensitive to the music; and to the singers and musicians on stage. The stereo audio was well mixed in the You Tube recording. This concert was truly memorable. I was so pleased to be there. A most enthusiastic "Bravo!!" to everyone involved. Thank you for posting this recording which allows me to revisit that evening, again and again!
Congratulation for attending this concert. I can share your feeling of immense joy and accomplishment traveling so far to listen to the concert you so wanted. I do the same for my favorite Countertenor Philippe Jaroussky, from Hawaii to France, & Germany. Nothing can replace the happiness I feel when I go to the concerts I desire, as I do not have any Baroque music living in Hawaii. Wishing you more of the wonderful experiences in the future!!

Listening to this marvelous performance full with beautiful voices and rare sounds of period instruments, I can easily understand why Italian music prevailed in the 17th century Europe.

Outstanding overall. Standing ovations were richly earned. For those of us enjoying the concert on monitors, I only wish the otherwise excellent cameras and microphones were properly set for the audience-rousing final dance routine (with its surprise interlude of youthful breakdancing, of all things), and apparently humorous sidebar commentary from the flautist. Bravo!

Heard some recordings by Nuria Rial but when you see her performance live at the second row for the first time it is amazing. All musicians and singers were great in my perception. What a performance and thank you AVRO-TROS for recording and publishing another memorable performance.

It is irrelevant, because it is superb anyway. I liked what I heard, I don't care if anybody else, even Cavalli himself would like it.

Thanks Otto, but I guess I wasn't specific. The instrument I refer to is seen past Christina Pluhar and her theorbo. It looks like an arpeggione with 14 tuning pegs (strings). There is also another one with seven strings elsewhere in this concert playing near the cellist. Are they all called arpeggione's?

Dr.Pingel: L´Arpeggiata hat zum Glück diesen Auftritt als Studioproduktion auf CD veröffentlicht: besser kann man Cavalli nicht spielen. Aber, verflixt, warum gibt es auch hier die UA-cam-Untugend, nicht alle Künstler und Ausführenden zu nennen. Nuria Rial habe ich erkannt, aber wer ist der zweite Sopran? Auf der CD ist diese Sängerin durch Hana Blazikova ersetzt.
Ja, schade, ich habe nur Capezuto (?) erkannt.

How painful these emasculated “men”or better said castrati are ! Why this perpetuation of past human perversions ? Why not a baritone instead of a peeping chicken ? Real, noble men are broad-shouldered knights, imposing even with their strong, thunderous voice, often no need to unsheathe their sword. High is only their Ideal !
Lowering the pitch an octave would ruin the close harmony. One simply needs to get used to appreciating the alto and soprano male voice. It helps to remember that this music was written at a time when it was considered that one of the most noble and masculine things a man might do was to write a poem, not to unsheathe a sword and kill a lot of people. "Real Men" were not John Wayne (common lout) types.

All around us one can see this natural, healthy separation between sexes and activities, not only in this world, but in all Creation; otherwise procreation and evolution would not have been possible. Under the loving care of a sensible, receptive mother we have grown up and mature, provided and protected by the strong, active arm of the father.
