On my 2nd Defender now. The first one was a 2020 SE that we drove over 20K miles with ZERO PROBLEMS…faultless problems driving around Los Angeles and the desert. Maintenance costs were/are what I would expect for vehicles like these.
I bought a 2020 Defender 110 when they first came out. I worried a bit about being a guinea pig and having lots of bugs to work out but happy to say, I love the vehicle. No serious issues. Just normal maintenance. Like you pointed out here....great ride, great feel, great features, looks cool. I refer to mine as "the beast." It feels like a protector of sorts. If that makes sense. No regrets. But am equally aware that most people are afraid of the reliability of this brand. Nothing was mentioned about computer/electronics and the issues that frequently come up perhaps with ALL newer vehicles these days due to the number of computers assisting in the functioning of these vehicles. In chat rooms and FB groups online I've seen many stories about those kind of issues which are not necessarily mechanical problems and perhaps not unique to LR. I take care of my vehicles and many people don't. I owned a Land Rover Discovery until it had 130k miles on it and only then did it start needing some costly fixes. I also had an LR4 for about 8 years. Again, no serious issues. Maybe I have good car karma.
Good point on bringing up Toyota/Lexus recent reliability woes. It's not the same as it used to, and Land Rover reliability in the Defender is not old Land Rover. With that said, Defender all day.
@@MTROVER1 ok how do you recommend we discuss long-term reliability on a current model year vehicle we have for 7 days if not citing the available data of past model years of the same generation?
@@dwnshft the Defender has been out for 4 years since 2020. That is 10k+ units that should provide the data you’re looking for. Comparing data from old designs is Apples vs Oranges.
Good review but some pointers. There are two V8s on offer. There's a supercharged V8, P525 Gas model that is NOT a BMW sourced unit. The recently unveiled Octa is at the top of the pecking order that has the BMW V8 that's also in the Range Rover Sport. Not to be confused.
I picked up my 24 LR Defender 110 P300 in May. Zero problems thus far. Before my Defender I had a 2020 Lexus GX460. Lexus makes great vehicles, and I didn't any problems in 4 years of ownership. But my Defender just feels different more luxurious also a head turner. If anyone considering the P300 turbo 4 cylinder. I find the power to be fine maybe because its turbo I don't have any problems acceleration when merging into traffic. It actually feels quick than my old GX 460 which was a V8. Upgrades I added HUD, wheel package, black accents I don't know the exact name and a tire cover. It still was less than the base GX550.
There is a button on the steering wheel that you can program. mine is programmed to mute the audio when I press and hold for situations just like you describe.
Of all the mentioned cars, I'd take the Defender 90 and a reliable engine. Coil over suspension. Of course in Pangea green, not drug smugler black. Cheers.
wait, what??? go back to the passenger unlock? how do you unlock it? This has been something I found weird that there was no unlock on that side. wife was trying to let me in once and couldn't figure it out. we still joke about it.
i honestly laugh my a$$ of listening to you guys that call yourselves car experts and reviewers. might be wise to actually research the vehicles you review. it's pangea green by the way. i liked how you said the digital mirror has glare caused by the vertical rear window. how do you think that is possible when the digital mirror is actually a camera on the center of the roof above the rear window, not looking thru it. also the bmw 6 sucks by comparison to the land rover 6. the bmw is used in the ineos and it is underpowered. as for reliability i have had my defenderX p400 for over 3 years. not one issue and if you really research the "reliability" issues they are usually very petty little things, mostly because of total integration of all systems and computers in the land rover. they don't leave you stranded in the middle of the desert. and now toyotas ain't so reliable anymore. there also were years past when mercedes had pretty bad jd powers rating. i admit service is quite expensive but you don't buy a land rover and not know that going in, and most people don't service them like they should and thus might be some of the reliability issues. i have had mercedes benz cars, audis, toyotas, and i have never enjoyed driving anything as much as i do my defender.
Special thanks to our Patreons for their support of the channel! Defender or GX?
GX
Comparison I’m doing right now (Defender vs Land Cruiser)
2025 This or a BMW X5.
My Defender....3yrs old....zero problems. Great vehicle! No comparison to a boring Lexus. Thanks for what you guys do.
Good to hear your LR has been good to you!

defenders are actually very reliable unlike any other land rovers
Defender 110 rated second most reliable large SUV in the U.K. by "What Car" magazine October 2024
one more thing......do not wait for 20K to change the oil...it needs to be changed at 5-6K intervals....20K is just a marketing gimmick

it certainly has the desireability over a GX doesnt it
"I think you have uncommon issues" 😆💀 Never related to anything more. lol
The Defender 110 is likely to be my next vehicle. Nice review!
Stop quoting reliability of models that are 8-20 years old. Get the stats on the car you’re reviewing.

The Internet should hear that
Nobody would compare an iPhone 3 to a iPhone 16 for example.
those 2nd row seats fold completely flat if you flip the bottom cushion. just FYI.
yes indeed, thanks!

totally! if i owned this car I;d have it locked in for exactly what i need
The dial on the steering wheel controls the volume also

How can LR sell a product with so many reliability doubts around it
cuz its cool and people will buy it and roll the dice i guess
milf influencer wagon
It’s primary use is signaling and for that purpose it’s much better than a Toyota
Akbar and Jeff take it on the road.
im getting 24 mpg and its great
Expensive is relative, most in this market are easily 80K plus….try a loaded pick up truck for $80K easily…
ABSOLUTELY HATE THOSE TIRES... even for Off roading we got better ones

The best thing about defender is the reliability..this can stay with u forever
The Lexus is such a better Buy, especially from the standpoint of things being there. Land Rover is terrible.
Yeah no mate, calling this a Defunder is an abomination.
