Got this bike brand new as a 12 yr old in 1982 $850.00. One of the best days of my life was the day I received it! This sucker ripped and the full floater was fantastic. Still one of the best handling mx bikes I've ever had.
I just bought my 10 year old bad asz girl one, she's been banging a lt80 for a few years and been begging for more. She's been on my ltz400 countless times with me and I recently picked up a yzf250 Took her for a few long rides on the back of and she done with 4 wheels hahaha. Gonna have to figure some sort of throttle restriction I'm thinking lol
Had a rm125 for some time. Asesome bike! I remember those little 80 spinning their backwheels for the whole lenght of a football field through all the gears. Generation X all the way...
I just picked up an 82 RM80 like this one yesterday. Runs perfect and overall very clean. Rear shock needs to be recharged and other than that it's perfect mechanically. Needs a seat cover. It is a screamer just like he said!
I had one of these - paid $763.00 new from Garland Suzuki if my memory serves me. I had an '81 RM80 before that and this was a quantum leap from that bike. Seems like it was 30 pounds lighter and another inch or so of travel over the '81 and of course the wonderful Full-Floater rear suspension. It also had a little more of a peaky powerband with more top end than the '81. It sounded fantastic to me back then. My good friend down the street got the water-cooled '83 RM80 when it came out and it was even better still. Good memories!
I had that bike and had to bore the cylinder and the Suzuki dealer out of Crowley,Louisiana installed the rm100 piston making it a big bore engine. It was a scary little bike and I was maybe 100lbs at 13 years old. I ran between the rm100’s and cr250 Elsinore. I like your collection
I bought the RM80Z brand new in 1982 , retail they where $900Aus, but mid year price came down to $769.00 from Melbourne Suzuki Elizabeth St . This bike was extremely fast , great handling, extremely reliable, great bike ! .
Yeah my dad insisted on a 4-stroke. I remember reading that 1983 80cc shootout over and over and over. The KX was the fastest but for some reason I was drawn to that RM.
@simpsonkid100 she's been killing it on a ported lt80 for a few years, drove my ltz400 with me on the back, and been on the back of my yz250 through some decent rocky mountain trails a few weeks ago. That was it. She wanted off 4 wheels yesterday. The little 50-70s just arnt a real bike that gonna do anything where we go, I'm sure they are great for learning but then ill be buying another in a year lol She did awesome today, caught on to the clutch right away and got into 3rd. Couple nice 2nd gear PowerBand pulls but it's still a little tall for any real riding. Just lowered it down as much as possible so excited to see her ride in the morning. Cheers mate
I just got one. Hunting down parts at the moment. This will look awesome next to its big brother my 1982 rm125. I love these vintage motocross. Anyone have an air box for the 80 I would be very interested 😊👍🏼
I am almost crying right now as I had to work a paper round earning $10.50 a week to buy my RM80Z for $500 back in 1986 and when I saw this I couldn't believe my eyes
We live in netherland my dad had one of these he whould go 100 kmh on this bike but then he bougth a rm 500 for fun and he sold both suzuki’s and bougth a cr250 1990 and a 1986 honda cr 500 those where the years of good bikes
Hey guys any idea what size and what brand n Shock I can replace my rm80 I just got with. Im around 69/75kg I'd say and need one ywha aroy d 80kg idk but what ever shock I can use that as the same size any idea off how many mm
I’m starting to rebuild mine same year, you know by any chance where I can find a complete gasket kit. I’m having a hard time finding it. Thanks! Love the vids by the way!!!!!
Had a 125 full floater great bikes i think sizukerz were the fastet top ends and most controled power range and second to best handeling always feal long witch i like feels like their streaked out only kawasaki handels beter varry easy to control and handel at speed
I love how the engine is the same engine as the DS80 i bought except the DS80 has a heavyer flywheel for a smoother longer powerband and stator assembly too handle the front and rear light. Its still too fast for the trails for me. I wish i had that suspension travel up front that RM has.
The DS80 was based on the 77 rm80. 5 speed. Different porting and ignition. The 1982 RM80 made well over 2 times the HP of the DS. I got burned alot back in the day on Ebay because everybody considered the 77-81 RM80 motors are the same. Every year they made minor and major changes. Only the 80-81 were consecutive models to pretty much be the same.
Um..... the transmission oil. Top end piston and rings are lubricated by the mixing of oil in gas. The lower end of the engines transmission gears, clutch etc oil changes required for long life

RM's freaking ruled. God I wish I kept it.
The legend lives on
My first bike was an rm80x really REALLY regret selling that bike... this brought back so many memories 😊

These little RM’s dominated Loretta Lynn’s and Ponca City in 1982👍🏼

Sweet bike. I think the next year it was liquid-cooled. That liquid-cooled model was a dream as a kid.
My first bike was an 83, and it was liquid-cooled. It had a blue seat. Lots of fun!
Yeah my dad insisted on a 4-stroke. I remember reading that 1983 80cc shootout over and over and over. The KX was the fastest but for some reason I was drawn to that RM.
Original throttle! That yellow plastic see threw cover never lasts. Awesome bike. I had one brand new in 82! I was 11! I want this for my collection.

I dont think that swingarm is aluminum though...no 80's had stock aluminum swingarms back then.Painted to look aluminum.
yep, it's steel. The aluminium swing arm was introduced on the 1986 rm 80.
I have a old 1979 rm 80
Sounds like a pissed off weed wacker
