I would try and save the seat covers as they are the ones your dad sat on. Maybe replace the scrim foam on the saggy bits. Those hog rings can be replaced or you can use small cable ties.

Hey,glad to see the expressed panels are OK.
I believe the reason the retrim would be 2k is pretty much down to the amount of labour, the seats/trim would need to be unstitched, the material then replied onto 'skrim foam' which is as per original, the brown water you encountered is the remains of 40+ years of original skrim type foam,I think the only way to reduce the cost of the 2k retrim could be to maybe unstitch everything yourself, maybe worth chatting with the trimmers if this is a viable option.obviously a far better job professionally and there's always that regret at the end if done yourself ?
Alternatively unpick, reline with skrimfoam yourself then get friendly with a sewing machine ??
Maybe youtube has some relevant videos ?
Keep up the good work 👍

Nice job Shelley those headlights came up really well impressive , have you tried one of those ultrasonic cleaners for small parts ? They seem to work really well for me they get stuff nicely clean 👍

Yes, the ultrasonic cleaners are a godsend. I’d tried all sorts of other techniques before, including electrolysis (!). The previous episode shows me fixing mine, as I switched it on when only two thirds full of solution. It blew the heating element.
Mine is only a small version so I can’t do the larger parts. The bigger sonic cleaners cost a fortune but I’m sure there are people out these who offer cleaning services for larger parts.
