    Fantastic! Thanks for doing these videos on this device. Definitely ordering this.

    when it comes to shimmer reverb: benn and gear has a kind of loud opinion against it, but I think that's mostly because a) everyone uses it so he's trying to encourage people to try something new instead, or b) because it can make things harder to mix without heavy EQing later on.
    I think it sounds absolutely gorgeous when there's not much mastering/mixing happening - like in a live set with maybe less than 10 or so tracks - but when it's a studio project with 50-100 layers and a third of them are all shimmering it gets to be just a muddy miserable mix, so I request people turn off their shimmer reverbs and valhalla vintages when I'm doing final mastering/mixing for them.

    Nice Serie about the Mod Duo X. Got one by myself. Really fun device. Enjoying it a lot.

    Just got one of these and I'm totally blown away despite a couple of issues. I could say mixed feelings but it's really 90% amazing and 10% trash. I use it as an effect and filter unit after a digitakt and a digitone. The reverbs are awesome, several types of delays are superb, the filter is juicy (use it as high pass). I also added a flanger because why not. All of these have various parameters mapped and I still have a button free on the first page. Also added a light saturator and compressor to the signal chain with no mapped parameters. It breaths new life in my tracks and I can spend hours just turning knobs with an unwipable stupid smile on my face. Setting up, patching, mapping and midi connection is a breeze, didn't have to look at any tips or manuals to start playing. Learning curve is zero. Build quality is very convincing too, though the Electron instruments have slightly better buttons.
    Now the 10% bad: it's pretty noisy before I turn something on. It's quite a loud digital buzz, though when the beat is on its not disturbing. I play industrial techno with loud beats, but maybe it's a bigger problem if you play something more quiet. Seems to be a known issue but none of the troubleshooting tips helped. Maybe it's the unit, dunno. So that's a bit crappy. Also it can get unstable and crash, but only when plugged into the computer. Never had a crash or instability during performance so it's quite reliable, but still, could be a bit more solid. Then, I really wanted to set up the looper but it doesn't know where the loop starts and ends, so you just need to play it by the ear. Unfortunately there's a tiny but big enough lag to miss the spot every time, which makes it useless for techno. I guess it's fine with live guitar or something where it's easier to adjust. Finally, the synths and drum sounds don't sound great. I thought I could take the chance to add a ring modulated virtual analog synth voice to my setup, but I couldn't get any decent sounds out of it.
    Perhaps it wants to be too many things at once. Or maybe it's still early in the life cycle of the unit and we can expect some improvements.
    Anyway, this thing is simply genius as an effects unit. I'm a total fan already and I'm just hoping for some improvements especially in the noise and looper area.

      ...the noise issue was resolved just by rearranging some cables. I guess at least the audio out needs to be better quality, though with other boxes I noticed no difference between my cables. Anyway, my happiness with this thing went up to 98%. It's pure bliss. Even managed to get the vocoder to work at the first try. I hail the genius that invented this

    I ended up snagging the mod dwarf before I started looking into the duo X, but I have to say that I am also interested in this one.
    I couldn’t justify the cost of the duo x when I was considering the unit as a multieffects pedal, but this can do so much more that what I thought.
    I’ll rock the dwarf when I get it next week and see if you can get me to spend even more money lol.
    Between you and loopop, pretty sure everything I have has had either of your hands on it.
    Dangerous channels for my wallet, brilliant channels for presenting gear in a comprehensive manner.
    You’re super creative and I love your videos.

    Do you remember if you can modify the notes in the sequence in the Mod Duo x after you initially created in the Computer? Another words, what if i want to now dis-connect and later change values on the sequence, Pitch, etc,,,change Bass line or the hit hat...can i do that only on the Mod Duo x? or do i need to plug back in computer just to make simple changes

      this device is running linux behind the scenes. so all plugins are linux-plugins named lv2, not vst ;)

    • @jarkokoo
      @jarkokoo 5 років тому +3

      @@maxmatteo2436 Yeah, and that's IMO one of the downsides of Mod Duo devices. I think many of the plugins available just don't sound that good (not a fault of LV2, but there just aren't that many many incredible plugins available atm as LV2, which would run on Mod Duo). From the generators I've tried, I think JX10 and DX10 sound the most usable, but they're far behind any hardware synths and VSTs I own, like miles. Same with the effects, unfortunately. Don't get me wrong, I think Mod Duo is doing awesome work, but what they need is some heavy hitter devs making stuff for the devices, ports of some popular VSTs and also something, that would be exclusive for Mod Duo and first and foremost something that would sound awesome. In other words: they should throw money towards great developers.
      That said, i still think it's a great device for making virtual (portable) pedal boards, even though I just bashed a bit the quality of the effect plugins. :) And I truly, honestly hope all the best for Mod Duo. The concept is just so damn good. All they need is the killer app(s).

  • @a88924

    Im just curious can all this be done on the mod dwarf?

    • @MrAcylus
      @MrAcylus 4 роки тому

      Mod Dwarf just has weaker specs than this. Software is the same

    • @_DRMR_
      @_DRMR_ 3 роки тому

      Half the size/price/specs. Still can do a lot.
      As you could see at the last patch you have a couple synth lines, effects and drums and the Duo X was doing like 20% cpu and memory.
      The dwarf would be at roughly ~40% then, so still plenty of things to add to a single session.

  • @milk_bath
    @milk_bath 5 років тому

    Could I have the built-in synth controlled by midi keys going out in stereo while at the same time using the two inputs independently with a bass and guitar output separately (sharing the output with the synth tone); all while having separate effects chains for the synth, bass, and guitar?

    • @RedMeansRecording
      @RedMeansRecording  5 років тому +2

      Yes!

    • @milk_bath
      @milk_bath 5 років тому +2

      @@RedMeansRecording Shit, I think I need to sell some gear. This solves so many problems of my partner and I both playing guitar, bass, drums, and keys in a live setting and quickly and easily jam together at home. Also, the open source and web browser features appeal to me as I am Front End Web Dev, and have been wanting to design pedals and synths beyond Javascript.
      Have you stressed test the Mod Duo X CPU and RAM? Could I separate the internal synth/drum to the headphone output without sending the guitar and bass signal, hence creating a routable second stereo output?
