THANK YOU! I spent hours this morning trying to figure this out (I am an absolute beginner) and your video was by far the most helpful. Your instructions are very clear, and your camera work is perfect. Many thanks.
5 years later and this tutorial are never getting old🔥 Just about to start leather crafting and im so lucky to find this video!. Thanks for the tutorial!
I realize I'm only about the 10,000th person to say so, but thank you! Excellent tutorial. Particularly when you initially thread the needle and loop back, piercing the thread and knotting off. Silence and demonstration worked brilliantly where trying to explain that would have been brutal! Thanks again.
This is the video that explains best how to saddle stitch. After a few weeks of trying different stitching methods with inconsistent results following this video finally got my saddle stitch perfect.
Great tutorial! I would also love to see how you thread together stitches halfway, (if the thread breaks or is cut). Thank you for your time and efforts in sharing these!
min 5:00, when you make this, you prevent a knot. The two lines running parallel through the hole. I heared that the advantage of this method is, that when one thread is cut, the others stay ok. The thread is only fixed by the pressure of the leather. Do you also use another method? Binding a crown knot e.g. , therefore you have to repeat this step on the same hole with a different arrangement of the needle.
Oh and the fact you showed both sides really helped, sometimes "experts" make the worst teachers when they forget what it means to be new to a craft they are teaching
Dude! I'm officially in love with u! First time out hand stitching by your video is easy and perfect!!! Guys this is the video to watch and learn in minutes! THX DUDE!!! Happy New Year!
Perfect timing for this video. I was about to start my first project that required stitching. I liked the tip about crossing the needles and making the 90 degree rotation to start the back stitch. Once you get use to the technique you can get a nice rhythm going. I enjoy all of your videos. Thanks for taking the time.
Thank you for a detailed close up I’ve been watching countless of videos, my dad started making leather wallets (sadly we’re in two separate states otherwise I could have a one on one with him) and he recorded himself on some threading processing and as a quick visual learner I was understanding a few things just got lost if there was 1 or 2 needles involved. Thank you for easily showing this would’ve saved me time but I also needed to learn more things as well before testing myself
Thank you. I’m a first time leather crafter trying to learn how the hand stitchings are performed, I must say your video teaching is the tops! I’ve watched other makers teaching videos, it’s all done by machines! I just want to start with very basics of how to video, to make it the old fashion ways, not machines. It’s Not Handmade then is it! Anyway, Thank You for this very well shown specific educational video, I most sincerely appreciate it. Look forward to viewing the others. I hope you will get huge followers/viewers! I’ll be sure to pass along about your channel. 🍃👍😊🌷👏🌸🍃
Thank you Gary, excellent video ! I am a newbie and have watched quite a few so called instructional videos but none as good as yours. Clear shots and at a speed easy to follow, good plain instructions and the reason for that particular procedure helped me make sense of it. Some of the other youtubers waffle on for hours, with poor editing & focus plus clip the most important bits. Subscribed !
Selamlar. Kolay gelsin.
All the commercial breaks are annoying. Is this UA-cam, or are they monetized for the poster - in which case I won't mind quite so much, but they're still annoying and concentration breaking.
not something particularly, but I would use smaller thread and needle for small items, such as 100D or 150D for threads; for larger item, us 210D threads. Google John James needles, I think they are pretty decent brand. For threads, I have no idea, I just use what ever I can get a hold of. I've heard Tiger thread, but have never used that, I will definitely try it if I can. Hope it helps.
i am still an amatuer still in ways ok but i am making pistol holsters , shotgun cases , scoped and lever action rifle scabbards , belts , , knife sheaths , axe cases , a few purses for my wife , and wallets and passport wallets for myself . briefcases , messenger bags , dopp kits , the carving is what im learning now , mostly .
In order for 1 knot to form in the middle of the material thickness, the loop on the left side should not be cast in the direction of the seam, but in the opposite direction, "outwards from ourselves". This is how the safety seam can be formed, which creates a knot in the middle of the material thickness.
I have to agree, its been 7 years since this video was created, and it's perfect now 7 years later. The details and the filming is excellent, thank you so much. I was having an issue with the wrap the thread over the needle counter clock wise, I now understand. The other point I would like to thank you for is telling your viewers like me, what direct your piece should be facing on the stitching pony, front side and back side, this is by far the absolute best video on UA-cam !
I want to tell u important thing .. I watch more than 100 video for stitching tutorial... I didn't understand any one of them .. u really awesome easy to the point ( THANKS AMILION )
Hi Mister! So sad that I found your video in 2022. You teach the stitching method in details and I owe you a lot. Solute to you. The needle go thorough thread (first step), applicable for all kinds of thread? Sorry for my bad English.
Thank you very much for the only explanation that is so understandable and clear, and even though my English is not good at all I could understand your explanation so thank you again.
Thank you for this video. I not only saved it in my leather play list BUT I ALSO download the video to my cell so that even if I don't have service I can just watch it off my memory card. I also emailed it to myself n put it on my PC.
Buenas tardes mil gracias por compartir y tomarse el tiempo de explicar también la puntada casi que no encuentro un vídeo así siempre lo muestran muy rápido mil gracias saludos desde Cali Colombia
Hello to you. Could you please give me a tip to harden leather to stiffen the back of my first little pocket I am building. Thank you for your advice. Grateful. Fabrice
Hi, Thank you for your comment, one way to harden leather is to soak it with warm water, but it depends on what kind of leather you are working with, it will work on vegetable tanned leather. But the quality of the leather might also matter, another risk is the leather might crack! So make sure you are certain about what type of leather you are working with and know the characteristics of it, happy stitching!!!
Jetzt komme ich aber durcheinander ...ich denke bei der Sattlernaht mit Knoten legt man die rechte Nadel von hinten auf die linke Nadel und nicht von vorn auf die linke Nadel ...hm 🤔

I am finding it challenging when I am sewing two pieces pf leather together keeping everything lined up if I make my stitching pony tighter it leave a deep impression in the leather which looks terrible.I especially find curves challenging in this way when I am adding a side panel to a purse/ bag.any tips or advise?Great tutorials by the way! Thanks so much!!!!

Bonjour ,
Est-ce que vous pouvez me dire de quel diamètre doivent êtres les trous pour un fil de lin poissé de diamètre 0,95 ? Merci
What thread and needles do you recommend for a project like you did in this video?
not something particularly, but I would use smaller thread and needle for small items, such as 100D or 150D for threads; for larger item, us 210D threads. I’ve watched 4 other people do the same thing but the way you have shown it clicked for me for some reason. Thank you
Thank you, I am glad to hear that!!!
Good job 👍 salam kreatif ➕ 1 untuk penggemarmu
Thank you😁
What type of thread is used? What about the needles, are there any special kinds for leather?
In order for 1 knot to form in the middle of the material thickness, the loop on the left side should not be cast in the direction of the seam, but in the opposite direction, "outwards from ourselves". This is how the safety seam can be formed, which creates a knot in the middle of the material thickness.
I searched for ASMR And found this. No regret.😍😍
Thank you very much!!!

Can you tell me what size is your iron chisel please? 4m/5m/6m? Thank you
Any body know where I can buy stitching iron? Please let me know. Thanks
Your video was so nice 👍👍👍
Please tell me use any strong thread or only leather threads 😊😊😊...
Why do you wrap the left thread around the needle before you pull it through? I've seen many people do this but I don't understand the purpose.
I have to agree, its been 7 years since this video was created, and it's perfect now 7 years later. The details and the filming is excellent, thank you so much. You toss the thread over the needle, wouldn't putting the right needle on bottom save that step?
Wish I had found this when I started. This is one of the better saddle stitch vids. Cheers! 👍
When I get good with leather I’m going to make a suit of armor and fight the demons that hurt people
