For early jar based strategies they'd usually try to mill out the opponent in one single turn through card destruction. The main idea back then was to fill up your opponent's hand like crazy by activating cyber jar multiple times during your turn (through book of moon and tayou usually) so the opponent would end up with 10+ hand cards, after which you'd use card destruction and force your opponent to draw 10+ cards again before finishing off with a way to recycle card destruction and use it again, decking out your opponent. Necoface is a card that returns all banished cards to their owner's deck and gains stats for each card returned, but if it's sent to the graveyard or banished both players banish the top 5 cards of their deck, so monster recovery was a nice way of using Necoface, getting its effect off, and returning it to my deck so I can use it again when needed

@@arrownoir"V"irtual You"tuber". Aka, someone streaming while using an animated Avatar instead of their actual Face. I would say it would get SOME use... but not a whole lot. Not all decks and rely on flip cards... and the one flip card that i can see this new version can abuse is Pot of the Forbidden... but not all decks can slot that in Meanwhile, Flip-based archetypes like Subterrors have their own means of recovery... so it may be redundant. isnt monster recovery a -1 ? you draw by the amount of card you shuffle so if you have 1 monster & 5card hand, activate monster recovery you shuffle 6 then draw 6 ?
No, monster recovery exclusively states "cards you shuffled from your hand", so with one monster on the field, a set monster recovery and 5 in hand you have 7 cards. You then activate monster recovery, bringing you down to 6, then shuffle the monster and hand into your deck, draw 5 cards and have 2 less than before.
Reliable Guardian is definitely not a good card, even in the context of Classic Yugioh. But I've just gone on Format Library and searched all Quick-Play Spells from Glad Beast format (last pre synchro format) and there are definitely some worse ones, including: "A" Cell Scatter Burst A Deal with Dark Ruler Combination Attack Malice Dispersion Mind Wipe Tailor of the Fickle There are a few situational ones that are also pretty bad but could have uses
Why is Mirage Tube a spell? It can't be activated from the hand and can only be used when one of your monsters is attacked. And I'm pretty sure you can't use spell cards during your opponent's turn.
That's still super awful. Not only were those two monsters already bad when guard penalty came out, but you'd then have a card that's literally unplayable as long as you don't have either monster out. It's super easy to brick, which is just what a draw 1 card should never do.
You fool! If you combo monster recovery with serpentine princess, it's only a minus one, plus you can summon out sangan for more value! This is surely a good idea and will reshape goat format
I was surprised Pot of Greed wasn’t on this list. Since it’s one that no one can remember what the card does. Then I remembered it’s not a quick play from this video so I was also under this spell!
8:45 Idea to make this card AND Bubbleman each better: _Bubble Burster_ Quick-Play Spell _Target 1 “Bubbleman” monster you control and 1 other monster on the field: Change both of those target’s battle positions, then shuffle that targeted “Bubbleman” monster into your deck, then Special Summon 1 “HERO” monster from your hand or deck, and if the monster summoned mentions “Bubbleman” in it’s name or text, Draw 2 cards._ _Elemental HERO Bursting Bubbleman_ (WATER) Level 4 Warrior/Flip/Effect _FLIP: The next time you Summon a “HERO” monster, Draw 2 cards._ _This card’s name is always treated as “Elemental HERO Bubbleman”. 4:03 Idea to make this card more generic against Drawing effects: _Pot Robber_ Quick-Play Spell (This card is always also a “Jar” and “Goblin” card.) _You can only activate this effect if your opponent activates an effect that lets them draw cards or add them to their hand. Negate that activated effect, then draw 1 card, and if you draw a “Pot”, “Jar” or “Goblin” card, Draw again._
I like your idea but different from mine as” If your opponent add card(s) from their Deck to their hand by card effects(outside Draw Phase). You can negate that effect and draw 1 card from your deck. Or Draw 2 cards if you negate “Pot” card.”
Because of the way it's worded, you need EXACTLY 7. Even though having more than that would logically include that number (as you said), you get locked out because don't *literally* have 7; you have whatever higher number you have at that moment.
yes, he did say that nowadays, getting "Cyber Dragon" cards into the field is trivial, but you'd want to use those Cyberdragons for their new boss monster... rather than have to fit 2 bricks into your deck that doesnt do much for you after all that.
So the "better" alternative to a quick play spell card is an effect monster that has to be face up on the field... I think someone has never played yugioh lol
I know why people say draw 2 cards is +1 or what the effect of Monster Recovery is -2 and while that is technically correct, it isn't effectively correct let's take pot of greed into account people say it's +1 since you use 1 card to get 2, but it's not really your deck has 40 cards, if 3 of those cards guarantee you draw two more your effective deck is 37 cards, so effectiveness is not +1 it is +2 since that is what the card is meant to do
Deck thinning increases the chance of drawing combo pieces in combo decks, but it's different from card economy. Card economy means how many potentially playable cards you have in your hand + how many cards you have on the field. Yugioh is a resource based game about getting favorable board states, so giving you more resources means having a better position. Pot of greed gives you two additional cards to use for the price of one, so it's a +1. Monster recovery costs 2 resources: the monster you shuffle back and monster recovery itself. As such it is a -2.
@@arcanegale285 and I just explained to you why it also is EFFECTIVELY a +1. Your argument was about deck thinning, which is completely different from card economy. Card economy is entirely about the amount of cards you currently have at your disposal, meaning in your hand or on the field. Pot of Greed increases the amount of cards at your disposal EFFECTIVELY by one, Monster Recovery reduces it by 2.
Old as it is, I never realized until now that The Reliable Guardian has *way* too many "muscles" in it's arm. I think Top 10 Worst Cards That Special Summon From The Graveyard would make for an interesting list. Spear Cretin, Tri-Wight, Spirit of The Pharoah, and The Shallow Grave are couple I can readily think of. I want to say there's also a "Call of The Haunted" that only works for Normal Monsters, too.
Im ngl that evidence for cards better than ring of defense was piss poor. "If you don't like traps which are slow, try this normal summon" wtf brother its still not better, this stops burn in standby and draw you still haven't brought up a better card. I'm sure there are better anti-burn cards but could you (or ya'll) at least have spent more than 5 minutes looking so you don't prove the reverse of the point?
SEE! All I needed to do was look at the comments for 30 seconds to see spell of pain, which is definitely a better tech card against burn. Not the dumb anime way it was used sure (because spell of pain can't target your own cards) but it is a better anti-burn card.
First off he did mention Barrel behind the door, which is not just leagues better, but even saw actual competitive play. It's even better than spell of pain, which can't be used on your own effects. Barrel behind the door coupled with your own ring of destruction was actually used for otk strategies (Cyber Stein summons Cyber End Dragon, Ring of Destruction + Barrel then hit for 8k damage). Ring of Defense can be used during the draw or standby phase, but that still means barrel is better in 99% of all cases. Also of course Des Wombat is better than ring of defense. Look at it from this perspective: Ring of Defense is useless as an aggressive card, unlike Barrel. So its only use is as a defensive card if you're playing against a burn deck. However, if you play against a burn deck, they won't just use a single card to burn you down but a multitude of cards, some even being spells or monsters (Wave Motion Cannon, Des Koala). So even if you do play against a burn deck, the only case where Ring of Defense would ever make sense, it's not useful at all because you get a much better effect by instead normal summoning des wombat and stopping ALL burn sources instead of just a single trap. And ultimately even if you were up against the cyber stein + ring of destruction + barrel otk, with ring of defense you would still take 4k damage because it can only stop one source of damage. If you'd use an actually useful quick spell like offering to the damned instead, you could just pop the cyber end dragon, causing ring of destruction to whiff and deal no damage at all.
@@nicolaistuhlmuller8718 *Loud incorrect buzzer noise* sorry thats a trap card and it is only better because it targets your own cards which is exactly what I said in my comment. (Maybe you didnt read my comment fully, thats alright! 👍)
@@david21216 maybe you should read both of your comments and not just a single one. In the original comment you claim that "no better card than ring of defense" was shown. In the second you say that spell of pain is a better alternative to ring of defense. Now you acknowledge that barrel behind the door is even better than spell of pain (and barrel being a trap card doesn't matter, after all who says better alternatives to quick spells have to be quick spells themselves?). So we have three of your statements: A) no better alternatives to ring of defense were shown in the video B) spell of pain is a better alternative C) barrel is better than spell of pain Now let's use basic logic. C and B combined mean that barrel behind the door is better than ring of defense. Barrel behind the door was shown in the video. That means the video did show better alternatives to ring of defense. The thing I despise about your awful videos is that you never consider that some of the cards were the only thing some people had. You act as if everyone is rich and had access to every card in existence at all times. So what a fool for using jar of greed when pot of greed exists. I think yugioh is best when you build a deck that works with what you have and make the most out of the cards you can get, while steadily improving your deck. But it seems you and most of the community just want to only use tier 0 meta decks and nothing else.
What you forget in your weird rant is that just because those cards were all that some players had that doesn't make them good? Also a lot of good cards were printed in decks and thus were easily available. You more sound like you're angry you got called out for playing bad cards in your past, even though honestly most players back then didn't know which cards were actually good and played tons of bad cards. We just don't act offended when someone tells us that the cards we played were awful.
@@nicolaistuhlmuller8718 nope, not talking about any past nor am I offended by anything this more on says. When I was a kid I knew mirror force was better than sakuretsu armor, but I didn't have mirror force. And so what if they printed the cards in other decks? Were you able to afford every deck they released? Lucky you I guess. Also have you never played one of the old videogames? In them, you unlocked a single pack after every duel, so you had to do with what you had in your starter deck and build up through what you got.
@@Gatitasecsii did you actually read anything I wrote? I literally said I played god awful cards back then too, partially because I didn't have good card but also partially because back then I just didn't understand the game back then. For example both Sakuretsu Armor and Magic Cylinder were widely available, but a lot of people back then didn't know that Cylinder was bad, so they'd play it instead of playing 3 Sakuretsu Armors. Also even if some cards were the only ones you had, that doesn't make them less bad, so why do you get worked up over a video calling them bad? Does the fact that some bad cards were more widely available make them not bad somehow? Because it doesn't. As soon as Gemini Elves came out, Genie was bad, even though Gemini Elves were extremely rare. The fact that Genie was super common changes exactly 0 about that.

_Mirage Migraine_
Quick Play Spell
_Activate only when your opponent targets a card you possess for an attack or card effect. Inflict 1000 Damage to your opponent, then apply 1 of the following effects._
_⚪️Change the Target of the attack/Effect to another correct target._
_⚪️Add 1 card to your hand from your deck or GY with the same original name as the target’s._
_⚪️Negate that Attack or Effect._
You can draw multiple cards with guard penalty: The destiny hero guy (name escapes me) did it in the GX anime by changing a monster to defense position twice with spark blaster
Edo/Aster
In one of the yugioh world championship games I ran a banish focused Obelisk deck using the card Necoface.
I was glad to see barrel behind the door make a cameo here. My only win in any kind of competitive game was an otk where my opponent pulled some crazy first turn shit and pulled blue eyes ultimate dragon, which walked into my set Ring of destruction and barrel behind the door.
What if jar robber was buffed to working on any jar or pot of card.
I think it could see some play... but not wide spread. Most jar cards are limited / semi limited and many T1 decks have their own archetypal ways to draw / increase their consistency. I dont see Jars splashed in decks as often as i did before
Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring pretty much neutralizes all the Pots and Jars so
@@freyachobibut it doesn’t let you draw a card

I knew someone who ran a Horus deck and they'd use Level Down!? on their own LV8 Horus to extend their battle phase, but only for game. I think that's the only use for it though.
Reload's card art still goes insanely hard
1:38 Idea to improve this card by just making it apply to changing battle positions in general:
_Position Penalty_
Quick-Play Spell
_For the rest of the turn, each time an opponent’s monster(s) changes battle position, Draw 1 card._
So basically with this, something like “Spark Blaster” (that was in the last video BTW) would effectively become a Pot of Greed.
I constantly forget "White Hole" exists. It might be one of the most forgettable ygo cards to exist. 😂
i was playing a master duel game a couple months ago and used raigeki the opponent responded with anti raigeki
i was surprised
who in their right mind use a specific counter trap?
I can see Guard Penalty being used in a deck that can easily change positions on either side of the field. I could probably splash a copy or two into my Karakuri deck in Master Duel and get results.
For guard penalty, chain it to labyrinth of nighttime during end phase
Still not good, but it is a niche use

5:21 Idea to make this more generic to use:
_Card Recovery_
Quick-Play Spell
_Target any number of cards on the field that you own: Shuffle them and your entire hand into your deck, and if you do, draw cards equal to the number of shuffled cards, and if you draw more than 6 cards, your hand size limit is increased by equal to the number of additional cards for the rest of the duel._
Yeah, Mirage Tube definitely got nerfed hard from its anime version. In the anime, it negated the attack and burned your opponent for the attack of the target monster.
I used to play guard penalty all the time in duel links with subterrors

What the hell is a Vtuber?
@@arrownoir"V"irtual You"tuber". Aka, someone streaming while using an animated Avatar instead of their actual Face.
The "Virtual" part of the Name comes from the fact that originally (ie, if you aren't watching a professionally employed one), the point was that the Avatar gets treated as if they are a real entity who is entirely seperate from the actual Person who is doing the streaming (as they "act out" a different personality while "on camera").
To give a more simplified explanation, imagine a Movie Actor goes to an Interview but stays in-character as whoever they played in the Movie the entire time. VTubers basically do that but as Livestreamers.
What about a top ten for "hidden" combos that arent obvious at first? To make this more clear my first thought is cyber dragon hertz into machine duplication to pull two cyber dragons
3:08 Wait, why wouldn’t that work on Magic Cylinder. Was thinking of using it as imagine I make a powerful boss monster, go to inflict 4K damage. He uses magic cylinder turning it to effect damage so I make it 0 with ring of defense. Still negated my attack, but would I still be taking the 4K?
Why doesn’t jar robber let you draw 2 for all that effort?
Ring of Defense is probably the most painful one on the list, considering that there was no reason to nerf it compared to the anime version. Could've just make it prevent an instance of effect damage to you, wouldn't have been broken at all, but nooooo.
Ok, so why is reliable guardian a spell card, and not a creature, and also - why he have what looks like an unit patch on his (extremely jacked) arm?
Would Soul Reversal be good if it special summons flip monsters face-down? And then flips it face-up?
I would say it would get SOME use... but not a whole lot. Not all decks and rely on flip cards... and the one flip card that i can see this new version can abuse is Pot of the Forbidden... but not all decks can slot that in
Meanwhile, Flip-based archetypes like Subterrors have their own means of recovery... so it may be redundant.
If back in the GX era where Cyberjar was still legal at 1 and the game was really slow... then yea... i can see it being useful for an Empty Jar deck

_⚪️Banish 1 card from your GY._
_⚪️Shuffle 1 card from your GY into your deck._

Top ten cards that can't be used on your first turn
isnt monster recovery a -1 ? you draw by the amount of card you shuffle so if you have 1 monster & 5card hand, activate monster recovery you shuffle 6 then draw 6 ?
No, monster recovery exclusively states "cards you shuffled from your hand", so with one monster on the field, a set monster recovery and 5 in hand you have 7 cards. You then activate monster recovery, bringing you down to 6, then shuffle the monster and hand into your deck, draw 5 cards and have 2 less than before.
Reliable Guardian is definitely not a good card, even in the context of Classic Yugioh. But I've just gone on Format Library and searched all Quick-Play Spells from Glad Beast format (last pre synchro format) and there are definitely some worse ones, including:
"A" Cell Scatter Burst
A Deal with Dark Ruler
Combination Attack
Malice Dispersion
Mind Wipe
Tailor of the Fickle
There are a few situational ones that are also pretty bad but could have uses
Hey duel logs, can you cover the lore behind duel links? It's set after Darkside of dimensions but also serves as post story for the vrains saga?
Ayo. Vtuber debut? Interesting
If only "jar robber" worked with any "jar of..." card 😞
Why is Mirage Tube a spell? It can't be activated from the hand and can only be used when one of your monsters is attacked. And I'm pretty sure you can't use spell cards during your opponent's turn.
Quick-Play Spells were an exception as they can activated similar to Trap Cards.
Jar robber needs an update to Change it to Any Pot or Jar draw card.
Would include Jar turtle and Jar of Greed and all the new pot cards
Would still be utter trash, but at least not unplayable
I think only one monster was made to equalize the use of Monster Recovery
But Mirage Tube does the same damage that two copies of A B A K I do!
Guard penalty use with spear dragon or goblin attack force
That's still super awful. Not only were those two monsters already bad when guard penalty came out, but you'd then have a card that's literally unplayable as long as you don't have either monster out. It's super easy to brick, which is just what a draw 1 card should never do.
Not even 20 seconds in and already an error.
You fool! If you combo monster recovery with serpentine princess, it's only a minus one, plus you can summon out sangan for more value! This is surely a good idea and will reshape goat format

8:45 Idea to make this card AND Bubbleman each better:
_Bubble Burster_
Quick-Play Spell
_Target 1 “Bubbleman” monster you control and 1 other monster on the field: Change both of those target’s battle positions, then shuffle that targeted “Bubbleman” monster into your deck, then Special Summon 1 “HERO” monster from your hand or deck, and if the monster summoned mentions “Bubbleman” in it’s name or text, Draw 2 cards._
_Elemental HERO Bursting Bubbleman_ (WATER)

_FLIP: The next time you Summon a “HERO” monster, Draw 2 cards._
_This card’s name is always treated as “Elemental HERO Bubbleman”. If this is the only card in your hand, and/or if you control no monsters (Quick Effect): You can either Normal Set or Special Summon this card (Face-Up or Facedown) from your hand, and if you do, you can shuffle 1 or 2 cards from your GY or Banishment into your deck._
ATK/800 DEF/1200
Can you do a video on "because Konami said so" cards.

4:03 Idea to make this card more generic against Drawing effects:
_Pot Robber_
Quick-Play Spell
(This card is always also a “Jar” and “Goblin” card.)
_You can only activate this effect if your opponent activates an effect that lets them draw cards or add them to their hand.
Failed archetype dinowrestler? I wanna know why they suck
Is your vtuber focused on card Games or something else
huh? why would having 8 crystal beasts make you unable to summon rainbow dragon when it says it requires 7, which you obviously have & can use?
Because of the way it's worded, you need EXACTLY 7.
Even though having more than that would logically include that number (as you said), you get locked out because don't *literally* have 7; you have whatever higher number you have at that moment.
Please cover ojamas lol.
I personally don't think Monster Recovery that bad really
Why the hell is mst a quick play spell?!
photon generator unit is bad but you can also tribute a core or something
yes, he did say that nowadays, getting "Cyber Dragon" cards into the field is trivial, but you'd want to use those Cyberdragons for their new boss monster... rather than have to fit 2 bricks into your deck that doesnt do much for you after all that.
Ring of Defense is just worthless cardboard now
So the "better" alternative to a quick play spell card is an effect monster that has to be face up on the field...
I think someone has never played yugioh lol
you have a vtuber company?
700 not 600 as said, sorry this is one of my more old used cards
Quick play cards are broken by design.
I know why people say draw 2 cards is +1 or what the effect of Monster Recovery is -2
and while that is technically correct, it isn't effectively correct
let's take pot of greed into account
people say it's +1 since you use 1 card to get 2, but it's not really
your deck has 40 cards, if 3 of those cards guarantee you draw two more your effective deck is 37 cards, so effectiveness is not +1 it is +2 since that is what the card is meant to do
Deck thinning increases the chance of drawing combo pieces in combo decks, but it's different from card economy.
@@nicolaistuhlmuller8718 I did write that I'm aware why people say that, but EFFECTIVELY it isn't that
@@arcanegale285 and I just explained to you why it also is EFFECTIVELY a +1.
Look at it from this perspective:
Ring of Defense is useless as an aggressive card, unlike Barrel.
So we have three of your statements:
A) no better alternatives to ring of defense were shown in the video
B) spell of pain is a better alternative
C) barrel is better than spell of pain
Now let's use basic logic. C and B combined mean that barrel behind the door is better than ring of defense.
Barrel behind the door was shown in the video.
That means the video did show better alternatives to ring of defense.
And THAT means that your initial comment was wrong in claiming that no better alternatives were shown in the video.
Maybe you should read your initial comment again yourself or work on your short term memory.
@@nicolaistuhlmuller8718 ? Thats why the spell of pain comment was a reply. It wasn't in the video, all that was talked about as alternative cards were traps and a monster (which is my main complaint). I'm more focused on the discussion about anti-burn than enabling a combo.
I went to the comments for 2 seconds and found spell of pain, that's a complaint regarding nobody bringing that up for the video. (Duel logs has a team and he farms content at a low quality often)
And I said did the other guy read my comment because he responded by talking about a trap that works as an enabler for your own burn spells.
Which again isn't my focus and why i responded by asking if he read my comment.
Hope that makes sense! 💪👍
