Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan is an Indian classical sitar player from Imdadkhani Gharana. He belongs to the seventh generation of Etawah Gharana. Shahid Parvez has performed in all major music festivals in India or abroad. Shahid Parvez also got vocal and Surbahar(sometimes called bass sitar) training from his uncle Ustad Hafeez Khan. He also received training in tabla for many years from Ustad Munnu Khan of the Delhi Gharana.
Mixture of Kalyan Ang and Kamod Ang, Shyam kalyan is a popular rag of the Kalyan family.
There are few things to be kept in mind while singing Shyam Kalyan. Gandhar is not forbidden in Aaroh, still one should not render G M P N S', rather R M P N S' is rendered. Gandhar is used in Aaroh like G m P G m R S. In general, Avroh is like this: S' N D P M P D P ; G m P G m R S. In Avroh, sometimes Nishad can be skipped like - P S' S' R' S' N S' D P. This rag is usually played between (6 PM - 9 PM) i.e, 1st Prahar of the Night.

Ustadji at his very best, what a wonderful recital. May I request the camera crew to please show both/all artists in view as much as possible, for me the recital after 38 minutes, when we can see the interaction of the body language between the two musicians, enhances the enjoyment so much more. .

@@vedgupta7611 I disagree when it comes to our classical music, yes if we don't have a choice then listening is fine. But the body language and interaction between musicians is an essentail part of this music. I have been a very keen amateur tabla player for decades and from my experience of playing but more importantly of watching plus listening to the greats, the interaction between musicians is very important as often is the interaction between musicians and the audience especailly is smaller settings
I consider myself very lucky to have experienced the music of Ustad Shahid Parvez. It is divine!
