My sister was broadsided in her SmartCar. She was pushed into the right shoulder heading for a cement stantion. She was treated at the scene and let go. Good car.

My observation in the video about the yoke being polarizing for my friends is also reflected in these comments. Honestly, I could go either way with the yoke. I did it for something fun and different to do. I am enjoying it for now. But I also enjoy the excitement and conversations it starts. It is fun to discuss something that breaks such a long tradition of the automobile, and to hear the different and sometimes strong personal beliefs about it. I drove my old diesel car with a "salad-bowl" steering wheel today, so I appreciate the perspective. :-)

I had the A/C issue with my Model Y, I thought it was just the way it was, turns out the A/C compressor was not functioning properly causing it not to get cold enough. Get service out there ASAP!

Hey all from New Mexico. Good news here. They just opened a sales/service center in Santa Fe. They did a work around on the stupid no sales of Tesla in New Mexico by locating the new center on an Indian Reservation. Way to go Tesla!

Here is the tipping point for me when it comes to ICE vs EV: efficiency. How much potential energy is converted into kinetic energy? That’s what separates the wheat from the chaff.
ICE vehicles convert about 20% of each gallon of gas into motion. That means if I pay $4/gallon (in CA), I’m basically throwing away $3.20 fir every gallon. If I pay $80 to fill my tank, $16 moves my car forward, and $64 ends up spewing out the tailpipe as heat and pollutants.
Yet, fossil fanboys tell me EVs are “too expensive” (my EV cost $40,000 - the exact price point of the AVERAGE new car in the USA in 2021). EVs have an efficiency of about 70%-80%, btw.
I pay about $0.03/mile to run my EV. My old fossil car was over $0.18/mile - not including all the oil changes, smog checks, tuneups, etc…
I have kids and a granddaughter, so, yeah, trying not to leave a total sh*tshow world behind for them is part of the equation. But it also makes economic sense.

I was told by a Tesla rep that the AC spends more time cooling the battery in places like Phx and LV (where I am)
The extremely unsafe yoke is definitely a deal breaker for me. Good luck on getting it legalised in Germany.

My air conditioning works well. I do have to keep it at 67, but it’s very cold.
The yoke only works if the steering lock is one full turn, like a race car. For function, I would not get one unless you start out driving with a yoke; Muscle memory now has it that I would grab the top part of the steering wheel in some situation, such as a counter steer. So for me, it would be really dangerous.
Also, I sometime cruise with the hand on top of the steering wheel. Also muscle memory, but a bad habit in that.
I guess, the yoke would emphasize the 9 and 3 oclock hand position.
His hands are always on awkward position during the turn. The video cut on every turn is most likely that his elbow was blocking the camera.
I would get it for my model y. It makes more sense in 3 and y for more visibility because lack of instrument cluster

I’ve never done a replacement steering wheel before. Let’s say you could get in an accident with an aftermarket wheel, or even a yoke. Could you get screwed by insurance for having an “unapproved” wheel in the car?
Also, that wide angle makes that little Smart car look huge inside! 😂

If the aftermarket wheel contributes to the accident or injuries then yes, 100%. For example let’s say the airbag doesn’t deploy because you bungled up the installation, causing you to crack you skull or something. I’m sure they’d take that into consideration. Whether they’d find out is another matter.
From what I have seen, the brands use Tesla OEM steering and modify the edges. The main center metal part still has Tesla logo and Tesla service centers even install it for you because it is still an oem part. You can see the description on the website to make sure

I am hesitant to do a yoke upgrade because I have concerns of the longevity of the cheaper Chinese buttons and functionality of the buttons. From your experience did the buttons work the exact same as OEM buttons?

Hey! you know if there is any safety risks with the airbag by installing a yoke on the model 3? Franz said in a recent interview that the most challenging thing about the yoke of the Plaid was to redesign the airbag since the yoke doesn't have the top part of the steering wheel. please let us know your thoughts. thanks so much!

I like the extra visibility with the yoke. I can accept a bit of a learning curve getting used to it but I think it’s worth it

I like how the yoke looks so OEM. Is it more responsive to autopilot? when you have your hand off the wheel for a while you really gotta press on it sometimes.
Autopilot seems to be unaffected. Maybe a slightly harder nudge if the reminder comes up, but it hard to tell. I can say the bottom of the wheel being flat is much more comfortable to rest your hand while using Autopilot.

What about the steering ratio? Is there a way to modify that. I know the steering ratio is different on the Plaid S, than the Model S with the standard steering wheel.

I am using Optiwatt. I have it all set up and it is reporting my electric use when charging my M3. However, up what I don’t understand is that I set up the app to charge the car at cheapest rates which I assume is off peak late evening or early morning hours. It doesn’t matter when I connect the charger to the car, it always starts charging, no matter what time of day. What does this mean? Is the app actually working? Any assistance would be appreciate.
As for the Yolk wheel, no thanks. Mainly because I like holding the wheel in positions other than 9 and 3 position.

BMW AC works better because they're spending more on testing their cars in all kinds of environments than Tesla does. They also reuse their parts across more models than Tesla does (because they have more models) so the unit economics for research have much bigger pay-offs.

bro the car comes with preconditioning. You can set it on the charging tab on the screen.
You can't just hit preconditioning before you drive though it's only for when you have a supercharger as a destination as far as I know. Let me know step by step how you are activating it

@@Gjeebs I set up a HomeKit-Tesla shortcut, so I just tell Siri on my watch "start climate control". It turns on the AC in my Tesla if it is plugged-in, or not. I also use "Cabin Overheat Protection" when I am parked outside somewhere. But you really should have yours looked-at. My Tesla AC works well.

We had a 500e for about a year. It was a great car. Just limited range, but not as short as my Smart.

Totally hear ya...the new Model S LR....AC is @#$%...sorry, love the car but WOW...take away the "vents" for design....but forgot the FUNCTION :( Got my windows tinted and still...have to run it so high all the time to keep it semi-cool and its loud. Get in my Edge, frickin freezing on LO in 10 mins....looks like ICE beats EV on AC ;)

Smart EV is a great edition to the EV space. It's a good little EV for getting around town and driving in the city where the streets and parking is tight. Looks like it's a great little grocery getter. Obviously these would be great in a lot of European countries and cities.

Question: Do these have the two holes on the side of the yoke like the OEM Wheel so you can release the air bag? Just in case I want to change it out...... how would I get off the air bag without the holes. I heard these do not have the holes.

Has anyone noticed how when he's driving with the yoke and comes to a turn the video mysteriously jump cuts and doesn't show the whole manoeuvre !
Also I'm sure the yoke is great when you are driving in a straight line ( as you are in the majority of the video ) why not show parking in a busy carpark

I don't get how you yoke fans thick this steering device is a good idea
It only makes sense in a race car where you don't have to do full rotations of the wheel and your hands never let go of the yoke
In a normal road car situation you have to let go of the yoke with one hand as you make a full turn , when using a normal wheel you can feed the wheel through both hands so both hands are in contact with the wheel at all times
A steering device that forces you to take a hand off the yoke to make a turn is not a good design .
