      There are now robot lawnmowers without boundary wire: RTK GPS based ones: Husqvarna sells one way for way to much, but Segway has just launched the Navimow, which is very affordable compared to wire-based robot lawnmowers. I couldn't find any review of it yet though. There's also the Toadi, which is camera based, but it doesn't seem to work well based on what I've read on forums.

    I might be pretty biased, but it really is very easy to buy a wire fault locator and fix the brocken wires DIY. You should never have to replace the whole boundard wire because of a few breaks. Maybe if the airator cut the wire more than 30 times it might be easier to replce the wire. But for a few breaks here and there they should just be repaired. 5 min job :)

      @@michaeld2613 Some robots will allow you to bury the wire 15cm, but most are only 5cm. So typically you do your best not to airate all the way to the borders where the wire is laid. Not the best solution, but there are not many options that I am aware of.

    I own one and it's great. I haven't mowed in year. Install the wire on top of the grass using the manufacturers provided stakes and the clippings will bury the line under thin layer of mulch. I had my Automower for a year now. It's perfect for keeping the grass down at our holiday home in Ireland. There were some teething problems with it getting stuck, but a call to the neighbour and away it went again. 2 broken wires, 1 when I put my spade through it. Easily repaired, and one where, I think raking some leaves brought the line up. Then the mower cut through it. Luckily, as I'd paid to have it installed the retailer fixed it for free! I was not there then.
    The only negative I would mention is, unlike traditional mowers, it doesn't 'hoover' the grass, so I'm out with a rake, leaf blower and occasionally my old petrol mower clearing debris off my lawn.

    For anyone who just bought a Husqvarna automower be aware that the cutting height adjustment does not show up for the first two weeks in the app or on the mower's menu (as of April 26 2022 anyway). Husqvarna states this is to let the boundary wire lay down - it forces the mower cutting height to max for the first two weeks.

    I work for Husqvarna and I have to say these
    Your 430x has a work area capacity of 3000m2 with a 130m2 work area capacity per hour so if your area it needs to cut is 3000m2 you will need to go with the 450x so that your machine isn't going to start giving your problems it's recommended to go with the next model up if your area is exactly the same size as the machines limit , your boundary wire needs to be layer properly and held with the correct pegs you need to keep your mower served at least onec a year and if you decide to open it up yourself your seal has to be changed , you need to update the firmware and do a diagnostics which is a must do and never be skipped , also if you decide to change the blades yourself make sure sure blade bearings ( held with 1 tourqe screw ) where the disc ( held with 3 tourqe screws)screws to are not sized or grinding, use a hook shaped pick to remove any twined cored etc that may be ravled around.d the shaft of the blade motor and the wheels also ,

We have not had problems with our 3 robo mowers, we have had to fix the cable ones or twice but that has been accepted by us in advance for example when the fibre was installed to our property. The fix was easy and fast, the cost is negligible if you do it your self. It only requires soldering iron, solder and shrink wrap. That's it. And installing the wire one self is very easy. And with pegs it is very fast, no need to bury the wire.

    You would think that with technology today the lawn mower machine wouldn't require a wire around the perimeter of the property to keep the it within the area. I thought that these units used spikes with sensors laid several feet apart around the perimeter. The same type that keep keep a pet coraled with a collar within a property. Thanks for posting as I was considering buying one of these and went to UA-cam to check them out. It seems like they all require a perimeter wire which, as you pointed out, can easily break. As an elderly man tired of doing his lawn. Laying and installing the wire on 1/2 an acre seems tedious and that's providing I don't run out of the cable during installation. Back to the drawing board as this doesn't seem like it's ready for prime time yet!

      Husqvarna has that on their most expensive automower, 550 EPOS (not regular 550) plus the base station.
      Others kind Segway which are coming out with a mower do the same thing - an RTK base station and then the mower getting corrections. To get precision down to 1 inch.
      A regular GPS in the mower, even with SBAS isn't precise enough. The wire system is very precise (you can set drive-past-wire distance in individual cm, so sub-inch.
      So it's a matter of just cost.

    • @RealLordy
      @RealLordy 2 роки тому

      GPS is only accurate up to a couple of metric meters when for civilian use. Accuracy up to a coule of centimeters is only for the military. There is a way around however: some mowers can connect to a GPS base station that is installed on a fixed position. The GPS of the mower then defines its position relatively to the GPS base station. In most cases those solutions are used only for very, very big gardens and areas (in most case: commercial areas such as outdoor sport terrains, golf areas etc...) as this equipment is quite expensive (range of more than 5K for the robot unit, and another 1K to 2K for the GPS base station, and then you have to add the hourly cost of the specialist who has to come and install everything)

    Hey, I know this is an old video but just to give you guys a heads up.... I had a few thoughts on saving your wires. It looks like your man REALLY put some time, money & energy into getting all of that setup.... so please inform him of this info... (assuming you guys haven't already figured it out).
    1). If the wire is ABOVE the soil, make sure to use WIRE PINS that you can nail into the grass and ensure that the wire is DOWN FLAT & TIGHT against the soil where the blades can't reach it.
    2). if the wire is UNDER the soil and still getting broken, then what's happening is most likely... 🐭🐁🐇🐿🦝.. CRITTERS!!! Yep! As you stated, the wire emits EMF signals and many animals can pick those signals up. It might make them feel a "tingle or itch" that just irritates the hell out of them - making them attack what's causing it.
    They also like that PLASTIC for some reason. I have a hard-plastic drain cover in my yard and there's teeth marks all over it. I don't know what the hell is eating it, but there's squirrels & raccoons all over the place out here. They were also chewing through a plastic LOCKBOX I had setup out front of my house for package deliveries.. till I mounted BIRD SPIKES to the top. They tried to jump on the lid again one day and got their lil a$$es tore up!! 🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂... I haven't had a single tooth mark in it ever since!! 🤗 But if it was me, I might try getting some of the most narrow PVC piping I could find and encase it in that - AND put it underground - that should eliminate them gnawing on it. Hope it helps! 👋😎

      No welding (actually soldering) need. It's just the matter of finding the breaks. I've gotten really good at it "thanks" to the voles in the adjacent field. But if I had an aerator run over the lawn week then it would be too many breaks to spend time on.
      But only a few and especially if one knows where (they had done some landscaping) it's easy. Just need an AM-radio to locate the break.

At that depth, it was still getting cut? Thank you for the video. Oh, also, hopefully like the shark robot, they will come out with a version with liDAR technology. The boundary wire uses a specific signal for the robot. This has nothing to do with the invisible fence wire for dogs. Don't really see the point why this should be a big oversight. Is this to keep the mower outside the dog's territory? In that case, you should put the boundary wire around the area where the dog is, and the wire should not be too close to the dog fence wire to avoid signal interference

    • @pieebobeg
      @pieebobeg 2 роки тому +1

      "need the additional guide wire" the guide wire is one of the top reasons to why Automower is in the absolute top when it comes to robotmowers, Ambrogio is good and does have some interesting models, but not as good as a Husqvarna. Fine if all you have is one square area most robots will do just fine, but as complexity grows you really do want the guide wire or wires when we go up a size in cuttable area.
