There is no way they could have stayed this long together if they didn't get along or like each other. They lasted longer than most bands and marriages.

I hear what John says about not playing new stuff, playing only their hits - which has been GREAT since they have so many to choose from. But I do wonder what might happen if they tried to do something like 'Whole Oats' and 'Abandoned Luncheonette' in their entirety. Of course, they'd have to make it REALLY clear to the ticket-buying audience that this was happening. And in an age where some acts go all acoustic they know how to make these sorts of things clear: If you were looking to hear 'I can't go for that', you're going to be disappointed. But I know *I* would pay to hear a 'Deep Tracks' H&O concert.
Bands do that stuff all the time, literally title the tour after a classic album which they do in song order. Abandoned Luncheonette would be a perfect candidate.

I could believe it...Everyone don't. Disagree yes....John's temperament seem to be mild manner and Daryl's as well...Again i love them both and saddened by all of this...To me they both performed the songs together and should be able to perform separately as well and should be able to work out the selling of their catalog if someone want to sell...
Well Oats was obviously not the same level of skills snd talent as Daryl. Many of us never heard Oates sing or play the guitar in the recordings. I never thought much of the other.
True, because I go on youtube, I always do a search for their classic hits, don't think I ever search for what's new with Hall & Oates, and that how I got here today did a search for "She' Gone" hard to believe it was re-release in 1976 (original release in 1973)
people wanna hear the jukebox, rather than newbies, like Chicago as well. He's right, they have redone so many of the hits that make them fresh, still after these years
John Oates, a very classy and smart guy. I do agree about his comment about having a show with deep tracks. I would love a show like that, Would Love it. I was a bit bored with the last greatest hits show.
They are just two different great artists who out grew each other...I have done the same thing with other songwriting partners..its just like a marriage...we all move on and out grow...the past...
Band members disagree more than we see behind the scenes but they still come back together as a band and work out their problems 95% of the time and you get a new album with new music that just blows you away because they worked out things ad say hey lets do an album about us not forgetting who got us here 'The Fans'

My mother loved their music and didn't i get a blast seeing my mom listening to their songs super bad music both guys 😉 waking up and see the interview just maded my day Out Of Slight..
I think John is telling the truth! They're friends for 50 yrs or so...They are completely opposites with different temperaments. No way u can be together for that long and not get along.....This lawsuit has nothing to do with how they got as long it's business! If you've seen all their interviews they got along like brothers and it all showed in their music!!!!
From the way John makes it sound he and Daryl had a better friendship compared to John Lennon and Paul McCartney! John became a trader to the Beatles all because of Yoko and he let her disrespect Paul! No wonder John and Paul never saw each other again after the Beatles break up.
No. I want to hear new songs and old songs. If youre going to a concert to hear a band thats been together 20 plus years but you only want to hear songs from a 2-3 years time span thats kind of stupid.
I just saw the interview bcuz of this comment. Daryl made sure that Bill Maher understood that they were business partners ONLY and not creative partners. WOW!
John knows Daryl and what's he like behind the scenes since they were teenagers, and yet they're still friends and John said only good things about Daryl in his book. So it tells me that Daryl doesn't really mean the "bad" things he says in interviews. I think he is just bored of the same questions, so he comes up with weird and controversial things to say. But if John isn't bothered by it so why would we?
I saw them in '97; they played the majority of what was their new album at the time (Marigold Sky), interspersed with their hits. I loved hearing the new stuff. I don't really understand how they play what is essentially their 'Rock n Soul' album year after year; if I'm tired of that, I can't imagine that they're not. Being a 'legacy' band, I would rather just stop playing all together.
BS. I would love to watch you guys play deep cuts... People who come to see you appreciate your musical talents and will listen to whatever you play and enjoy it.
I find it interesting that the 70’s Hall & Oates had the occasional hit (Sara Smile, Rich Girl, She’s Gone), then the 80’s Hall & Oates had nonstop hit after hit. Did they all of a sudden become better songwriters? What changed?
Posting a video that was a year old in order to cash it on UA-cam dollars from the current lawsuit and controversy? So anyone that sees the thumbnail and doesn’t see the time it posted is going to click because of the current conflict!
yep apart from hall demanding a restraining order and going all in with a lawsuit.. no issues whatsoever.. keeping shit buried never wirks as a strategy long yerm
It sounds like this dispute started recently. They're fighting about their catalog. One of them wants to cash out the rights to their music, and the other wants to hold on to the rights. The restraining order prevents them from selling the rights to the music temporarily.
This is how Chicago has lasted all these years. It caused problems with Bill Champlin. He wanted to keep writing and playing new stuff. I get both sides.

@magicman322 writing and singing is the core, Hall could have had a big career without Oats. This is the same as Creedence, Clearwater revival. The bands jealousy of John slowly grew over time.
It would be smart not to have a fight with Daryl Hall. Oates wouldn't have a career with out him. Daryl Hall is the front man and continue on without missing a beat. The public probably wouldn't even notice John Oates missing.
Well....U wasn't listening when John was singing because the man can sing! Do u really believe their would have been a Hall & Oates if John could not sing? Seriously! Pay attention!

@@harrynut3044 That was Daryl's take that moment and that's my point. Maher called them partners, so Daryl said he did everything himself. Didn't Hall take out a restraining order against Oates a while ago?
Hall and Oates are music , some of the best soul songs ever . They are historic musicians
Technically Darryl wrote almost all of the big hits and brought them to john.

Oates is a class act and took the high road here, but given Hall's temperament, I can't believe they've never had a blowout in over 40 years.

They became established and many of their peers dropped by the wayside.
They started to produce for the most part their own music in the 80's and perfected their sound to enhance their already strong song writing
