Another good one Phil. I never push the manufacturer stated durability of the coatings i sell / install . Currently the gyeon line . I simply explain to them that it will last as long as you , the customer, is willing to make it last . The customer needs to do their part as well . Some go all in and stick to a plan as much as possible. Others , well , life gets busy for a multitude of reasons and kind of disappear. It's to bad but it kind of has to be a 50-50 partnership to achieve the best results. Keep up the great work. Take care.
Well Phil , this is a video that needed to be done. One of the parts of my business is to train the customer and get them the right products to maintain the coating. I have seen so many customers like the one you described who say they expected it to last yrs but after a few months it was not working. I would recommend to any detailer to train their customers and be realistic about the expectations
Great video, Phil and Jess. This is definitely one of the pitfalls of ceramic coatings when a customer, most likely, leaves their car outside 24 hours a day. I am now a System X installer and Max is a lifetime coding. I am very skeptical about this. Your advice to know how to communicate with customers is absolutely spot on. Thanks for the great content.
Hey Phil, thanks for another informative video. One thing comes to my mind re. the „dead“ ceramic. it would be interesting to see whether Labocosmetica Purifica would be more successful in getting rid of the mineral deposits blocking the coating. A german detailing channel tested the products and found out that gyeon restart is ph neutral, CP Descale only has a PH of 6-5 and Labo Purifica came out on top with a PH 1-2. it seems to pack a more sour punch in freeing those clogged ceramics than CP Descale or G Restart wash due to its enhanced acidity. Cheers!
Another great video Phil , looking forward to trying out the 2.0 version of reload when it becomes available. Always enjoy all the content and information.
Great video! The same thing happened to my wife's Jeep. I did a paint correction and installed Carpro and Gliss. 1 year later the hood was completely dead. I have no idea why or how because I did regular maintenance washes. I will most likely just redo the hood but every other panel on the Jeep beads perfectly.
Good morning, always good at what y’all do and taking care of the customers. What do recommend to use on new car headlights just keep um looking new?? 👍 protect um from Uv rays
Hi. Thanks. So it depends on what region you are in for headlights, because here in the southern states it doesn't matter what you put on headlights, they may still oxidize over time. even PPF companies wont warranty headlight PPF here because of the intense sun and heat in the summer. so usually i tell customers here that we can refinish them and protect them but most likely every year or two we giver them a light polish and revive and protect them again.
I applied Adam's graphene coating to my lawn mower a year ago and left it alone as a experiment. Didn't wash it no more over a year. Just a month ago I sprayed water on it and washed it. The coatinh is gone but I have the same coating on my car that I maintain twice a month and I applied it at the same time and it's still performing like it's brand new so you have to maintain these ceramic coatings
Rob from Gtechniq here Just adding my 2c to this. Although Ultra does have great initial hydrophobic performance, its main job is to help to prevent the build up of swirl marks. Couldn't really see from the video how blemish free the paint is. For maximum hydrophobic function, Ultra should be overcoated with x2 layers of EXOv4. This will give about 18 months of beading loveliness. Lastly. Surprised the car didn't explode when you used non Gtechniq products for decon etc. ;-)
Thank you for sharing this Phil. Just curious, would you consider using Carpro Essence Plus for such a weathered coating? That's what I do to my cars every 8-12 months and it has always been successful at removing light water spots and hide some of the ligther swirls. I do wash my cars every 2 weeks with either Reset or Restart though.
So many questions? Was the truck properly prepared for a coating? (Strip Wash, Polished, Decon, etc.) Did the installer wait till the product was ready for removal? As you said, was proper maintenance washing done on the truck? Since you didn't do the original coating, you are not liable. If possible, the owner needs to return to original installer for warranty? If not, start over from the beginning. I know you have had success with this coating before, so it is not the coating, either installer error or not applied properly or not prepared properly? Thank you for this video...
I know right?! The customer would have to contact Gtechniq about that and ask them those questions. The truck had lots of heavy Waterspots so sometimes that just happens and the customer may not even know it until it’s too late.
Great video as always. Phil been meaning to ask you: I’m looking for a protection product(other than a ceramic coating) , that will absolutely give me the highest level of UV protection. I’m parking my car in a different place now, and the sun just beats down on it. Thx. J
Hi Thanks. So there are so many different products as well as many variables that go into what makes one slightly more effective than another. But give this a try bit.ly/3CMW10R Its teflon based and designed to resist heat better.
I would go through GTECH for a warranty claim. Maintenance for sure but this coating should last longer. It just goes to show how far coatings are away from being very good because I see water spots destroy the best coatings. Water spots are the worse.
I don't personally like warranties on vehicles PERIOD! I find them to be scams most of the time. Same goes with coatings. I don't advertise or even talk about coating warranties unless the customer brings it up. But I tell them that any protection on the vehicle is only as good as how its maintained.
If the coating is gone, it’s gone. For whatever reason it got worn off. No maintenance? Possibly. Either way it’s gone. No sense flogging a dead horse. Put a good sealant on it and tell customer to come back in 6 months.

So, if a car is been ceramic coated and then the customer decides to PPF certain critical parts, the PPF should show beading, hydrophobic? Your wife: So you don’t miss stuff 😊
So Carpro Essence can be used on paint and even PPF, but since I didn't install this and have no idea how it was prepped, or if Gtechniq HALO was used instead of CSU on the PPF..HALO is only a 2 year PPF coating. .So many weird unknowns on this one. If the vehicle was coated and then later they wanted PPF, the PPF installers would have to make sure that the CSU is removed by compounding before PPF is installed. then reapply a coating on top of the PPF.
@@MirandaDetailing I had to look up about Gtechnic HALO as that is something new for me So, that (halo) bonds over the PPF and so it should behave as ceramic coated part. as you mentioned, shedding, beading and hydrophobic but in this case is none existing Honestly I personally prefer just to enhance the paint, then top it with 3D bead it up or something similar and do the maintenance to keep the gloss and beading Maybe whoever did that ceramic coating didn’t know what he was doing or didn’t follow the proper process in this scenario, but he knew about number$ Or as you mentioning, the PPF was installed later and the installer didn’t care about asking key questions about paint care, if it was coated or not and just went ahead and did his job
So HALO is also just a 2 year coating on PPF. So at its end it needs to be reapplied. But their are so many unknowns with this so who knows. I have had coatings not preform that well even after 6 months, but it’s because they are not cared for properly and the vehicle was driven everyday! ua-cam.com/video/nN6vZ1eKU3A/v-deo.html But we have another video coming out soon on the same coating, CSL, on a truck and it’s preforming completely different!
Hey Phil! Question for ya. I am a pro detailer as well and I installed CSL on the wife's black car and I also tried CarPro Reload as a topper for it but for some reason CSL hates it and it either smears or leaves a bad haze on it. I have tried just 2-3 spritz for the entire hood as well as a wet application and also spraying directly on the towel to no avail. Wondering if you've had similar issues with these 2 working together?
Hi! Oh that’s weird. I have only had issues with Reload when over applied. But I have used it over CSL and it was fine for us. Sorry man. Not sure why it does that. Maybe certain temperatures it doesn’t like?
😎👍 I do need to exercise correctly. My brothers are pretty buff. I was always the skinny kid. Now at 40 it caught up to me. Now I need to eat right and at least do some exercise, walking, biking, etc.
Especially with all these ceramic sprays that last 6 months or longer for like $40. It’s kinda a no brainer apply the spray 4 times over 2 years or spend $1200 for a 2 year coating.

How many oz of descale do you use in foam cannon?
I out about 2-3 oz in 16oz of water in the faom Cannon
No chance CSU lasts even close to 9 years.

That's why I never park near when my lawn sprinkler is on. I always park away. U can't get water spot from rain bcz it's pure water. No minerals
Just out of curiousity, do you think this is something Gtechniq would cover under their warranty? CSU has a 9 year guarantee right?
Yes actually I asked the Customer and its up to them if they want to file a claim and get it re coated.
Does that ding the original installer?
