We're from New England and we drove to BM in July 2022 pulling our little Winnebago. The signs are ok IF you have a map. The road up to Big Meadown is very long and hugs the mountain. You drive round and round and round. I was surprised how chilly it got at night time. The worst problem we had was the fire pit. It was a real pit sunk into the ground. We tried to dig it out so the fire would have air to breath but couldn't do it, so we never had a real campfire the 5 nights we were there. Walking around the site we saw more fire pits that were real pits that suffocated any fire. The ones dug out with air holes had great fires. So bring a crow bar. There are lots of deer roaming around the campsites. They are not too timid but ran away when 10 year old boys tried to 'catch' one. I have a really funny photo of a line of deer all looking to the right which just happened to be in front of the Ladies room sign. If you are a hiker, like my husband and I, all the hiking trails start by going down. Not going up a slope. They are not very long but also not very lush. Being from NH we really missed the deep lush forest setting, but we had a good time anyway. There's a cabin down one trail, about a mile in, by a stream that you can rent for a night or two. There's a wood stove and wood stacked up behind this cabin. I think it would be a little creeeeeeppy being so dark and isolated. Summer 2023 we took our Winnebago to Mt. Rushmore, Devil's tower and Yellowstone turning south to Grand Teton then heading home. This summer July 2024 we're going to Smoky Mountain, Dear Lord willing. Happy Trails to you all.
Greetings! Gotta love the great outdoors. We're planning our 2024 trip that will be starting soon too. Devil's Tower and Yellowstone are on our list. Only seen the Devil's Tower in the movie Close Encounter of the Third Kind, I hope it will be a cool sight to see in person. If you would like, You can post the photo of the deer on our FB Page, "Fun Outdoor Adventures" This year we will be pulling a travel trailer so this should be interesting. Cheers!
