    Thanks for this great video of the things you enjoy while working in the parlor and the fields. Incredible drone footage of the awesome number of straw bales in one field! You should pick a the best frame shot from the drone footage and have it enlarged as a reminder of this blessed year of harvest. 😊

    Nice to see pictures from the parlor and barn again. Fall rye is ideal for sandy soil. 150,000 hectares of fall rye are grown on the sandy soils in Brandenburg/East Germany, where winter wheat doesn't grow properly. The farmers say "only rye and pine trees grow in the Brandenburg desert." Greetings from Germany, David.

      Is it still referred to as East Germany?

    • @wolzer90
      @wolzer90 3 місяці тому

      @@eldonhoward7925 Germany is one country, but in the eastern part, the former GDR, many people attach importance to being different from the western part. In agriculture, this is very clear for historical reasons. In the west there are only small and medium-sized family-run farms. In the east it is very heterogeneous, some small and medium-sized family-run farms and the majority of medium and large agricultural cooperatives and agricultural companies. These are the successors to the cooperatives from the GDR.

The density of bales on those fields is a sight to behold, there has to be a calendar or a blow up picture there somewhere. The quint essential prairie picture for sure.

    700 hours on the mx285 is a lot in one year. Be thankful it hasn't had issues. This goes back to a comment I made in a previous video about whether it's time for your farm to move up to a self propelled chopper. YES it will be expensive (what isn't these days?). You must weigh in the intangibles: downtime, mechanics time, delays in getting crops off at peak of nutritional value, wear and tear on the mx285 and repairs and maintenance it will need.
