A lot of sodas can be made into really good bbq sauces this way. Especially one like Dr. Pepper. If you take Dr. Pepper, and throw in minced jalapeno, garlic, and some salt. Cook it down about halfway and it'll end up being really good with most proteins. Though I haven't tried it with Fish.
@@an_ordinary_goose It's more so sodas have surprisingly complex flavor profiles. At least one like cola or dr. pepper. When you cook down the liquid you're concentrating that flavor. Adding in savory flavors like garlic, salt, onion, etc. will lend it to more savory applications. You can also use it with sugar free sodas. Though obviously they will taste a little different. I'd have chicken with lemon lime soda, cola, dr. pepper, and orange soda that have been cooked down and had things added to them.
Basically heat accelerates how fast soda loses carbonation so by the time you finish reducing the soda down to the consistency you want it'll be completely gone. Or at least there'll be so little you won't be able to tell. The one thing to be careful about when reducing is that the sugar in it can burn so make sure to stir and not use too high of a heat if you're going to step away here and there.
I've been making this recipe for my friends and guests for over 5 years, super glad to see your take on it! I'd personally add some MSG, but heck, I need to start using some star anise there, too. Tip: if you make a large amount, put your rice on a tray and then put the chicken on top of it. The broth is gonna make it taste incredibly delicious.
Had this for the first time during Christmas, now it's my favourite dish! Instead of frying it, we bake it instead so there's still left over sauce we can slather into the rice.
That's an interesting take on wings. I already knew how good soy sauce and ginger are as an ingredient, but the star anise was a bit of a surprise. They look fantastic!
I showed my dad this video and the first thing he said about it besides the recipe being simple is "is this a videogame?" Good job my man, you got the RPG feel of this channel down to a T
I have never tried any of your recipes but the cheer joy you have on your face at the end when you eat them is enough to convince me they're all delicious
In this game, you can grow ANYTHING food/drink realated you can also grow water JK! The water came from the river, water is commonly found in the water forest and rarely in the fire forest Also if you fight the 'Water spirt' you can get water crystals so the chance of a sparking water river may increase to 1 in 3000 (Without it's 1 in 6000)
Yes, chicken stewed with coke, one of the greatest meal i usually cook while im in college, ingredients is super easy to find, not hard to cook and the taste is fantastic. You can also cook a large portion and eat for the whole weak. This is college saver meal.
coke is just reaaaaaaaaaaally sugary water so it's fine as a substitute. Normally adobo is made with soy sauce, a ton of sugar, some ginger, and water.
OOO! That looks really good!! Wonder if the anise adds a subtle licorice flavor...I love chicken wings and Coke and I love licorice, so I'll have to give it a whirl sometime!
Yep! Anise does give off that licorice flavor, and is called for in recipes for a number of Chinese dishes, especially ones that require you to stew, simmer, or slow-cook with some source of sugar and soy sauce.
@@cldream Awesome!! Some of my favorite Chinese dishes have star anise--my dad made beef noodle onion soup a few days ago and the broth has a slight licorice taste to it because he used one piece of anise. Our family loves it.
Carbonated beverages actually acts as a good tenderizer and adds a new dimension of flavor. One time, I cooked some steak in a reduction of ginger ale and it tasted great!
I know that it is very simple, but can you please show how YOU cook your rice :) Everyone says something else but the rice you're using in your recipies (for example fried rice) looks awesome.
Am pretty you just wash the rice, filled it with the correct water ratio (like 1 cup rice 1 cup water or whatever, or use the finger method like Asian) and just pop it into the rice cooker
It just seems so odd to me to put coke on chicken that I can’t imagine what it would taste like at all! I should try it, it seems to be actually really good judging from that lovely happy smile at the end.
Ur video came out to my recommendation, I'm so entertained with ur kitchen utensils and how u presented it with medieval game kind of theme. It's heck refreshing and funny as well with all those chicken toys providing u garlic yet being slaughtered after hahaha
One of the most entertaining parts of these vids is watching him enjoying the fruits of his labors at the end lol

Is it because of the high sugar content in the drink that makes it good for using in cooking?

I really like this channel. The recipes are usually pretty quick and easy. I’ve been better about cooking food at home rather than eating takeaways.
So good to see another video! Welcome back.
My sister used to make coked wings, they were sooo awesome, very similar to how you did it.

for some reason i read the title as "cooked chicken" and was immediately 10x more intrigued
I have cooked this before but without the star anise. I also added garlic powder (because why not) and chili flakes. It's actually really good. ❤️
That's an interesting take on wings. I already knew how good soy sauce and ginger are as an ingredient, but the star anise was a bit of a surprise. They look fantastic!

this is the type of chicken dish that will really disturb you in the process but actually taste magnificent after cooking
