- Who you gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS! The Muppets take Manhattan! Seinfeld! So many epic movies and TV shows filmed in New York City, but probably the first that comes to mind is 1984's GHOSTBUSTERS! And as an 80s kid, it's always been my dream to see some of these places, so its time for another Randomland Adventure!

PS: This video is meant to be educational but not exhaustive. I know there are a few other spots around town, this is just what I could get to in one day. The point for me isn't to track down every angle, it's to have fun! Which should be the whole point of watching too, right? PPS: It really helps if you pop Ghostbusters back in and watch it again. I JUST planned out a summer 2 day weekday trip to New York last week for the purpose of going to a Yankees game. With two days, including travel, you can imagine that my time is limited to see the sights..... well, the Ghostbusters Fire House was 1 of 3 sights on my must see list. So jealous you got to see it and I appreciate the coincidence that you were just recently there.
I never seen Seinfeld or Ghostbusters, but I watched that anyway for the sightseeing. I never knew New York had so much awesome architecture!

Thank you Justin, now I'm going to watch Ghostbusters again. Lewis saying, "I did a 20 minute workout on my machine and played it back at high speed so it only took 10 minutes. I got a great workout.", still sticks in my mind.
I loved NYC when I went. I have a picture of me outside Tom's Restaurant. I would love to go back one day.

The Muppets take Manhattan is really one of my favorite Muppet movies. I can't find much about Pete's Luncheonette either. Only that the exterior of Pete's Luncheonette was used in the pilot of Seinfeld, before Monk's café was their hang-out.
Justin ! Quoting "The Muppet Take Manhattan " was awesome . I am 42 and I saw that film like 4 times at the movies as a kid. I remember my mom and dad taking me to Peekskill New York to see Ghostbusters when it came out. I was 9 at the time. Still one of my favorite movies. Very cool vlog. Thanks for the bringing back those childhood memories of some groovy flicks.

I did a similar trip to see the ghostbusters fimiling locations back in 2015 from firehouse to 55 central park West. This awesome video helped me to remember that trip. Well done Justin.

Im glad I grew up in the 80s. We had Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, Goonies etc. Kids today have...um...Logan Paul. Sad.
You know, I just saw the new movie trailer for Ghostbusters releasing for 2021. I gotta say, this generation loves to bite off of our old school classics. I grew up in the 80's and 90's and we had the best in music, shows, films, and a simpler life. Look at today, reboots, spin-offs, sequels, and why? Because today's generation lacks originality.
I love this video! I live on CPW (25 blocks north the spook central) and every time I pass by the 55 I think of Ghostbusters! BTW, the firehouse is now without scaffolding and can totally be seen. Also inside there is a HUGE Ghostbusters logo, it's awesome. When you are there and you find yourself starving, go to Walkers, which is on the other side of the street: the burger is awesome!

Muppet/Seinfeld trivia: The exterior of Pete's Luncheonette was used in the Seinfeld pilot episode. Jerry and George hung out at Pete's Luncheonette BEFORE they started hanging out at Monk's Cafe!

The first time I was in NYC, I was taking pictures of that church with the red doors... and didn't even realize what the building next to it was... *facepalm*]
Awesome. The library lion statue appears prominently in Splash too. As an 80's kid, if I ever did a New York filming location vlog, I'd do Fame, Splash, and Madonna's Papa Don't Preach.

As someone who worked for the New York Public Library for nearly 16 years, it's worth pointing out that the downstairs scenes were filmed at Los Angeles Public Library.
I'm pretty sure he says that in the video.

If you have some time, you can check out the Jim Henson Exhibiton at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria Queens. A lof of the original muppets are on display. Last day will be March 31st sadly. Short train ride from Manhattan.

I remember the spook central is where Buddy and his dad exit in and he catches a cab, I think in Elf. The commentary mentions that it was the same building. :) oh and BTTF DeLorean at the end of part 1 with Mr. Fusion!! :-D

I think you pointed this out in a previous video but you see these locations and they seem gigantic and larger than life but when you actually visit them or I can tell from this video it’s seems smaller. I got this same feeling visiting the Chinese Theater area in Hollywood.

My parents were living in New York in the early 80s and actually saw them filming "Muppets take Manhattan." It was the scene where they were all running around looking for Kermit.
I would use the Delorean no contest the other two cars are supper cool but the Delorean is a mother effin' time machine man!

I'm gonna stay there in June. Lots of history in there, including the Bilmore Bowl, at least what's left of it. Where Walt was awarded his special Oscar for Snow White.
Also, where Ghostbusters scenes were filmed. I'm sure you know all of this already though.
Still the Back to the Future Delorean, though the Batmobile and Ecto 1 are still better than a normal car :)
