Pure genius. True art occurs when one's mind is fed the perfect amount (not too much) to allow the observer to create what they see inside their head rather than have those details exist outside the mind. Trevor, you administer the PERFECT amount.
Hey everyone ...thank you so much for your support and comments ...lets hope things are improving this year in your painting ! I will be putting out some more vids for you :)
I've just discovered you! I'm a beginner and have been painting small gestural figures with some success but your tutorial has amazed me with how much more life they could have! I'll be practicing them today 😀
Absolutely brilliant tutorial Trevor. Thank you! Just started back with watercolours after 30 years away... lots to learn, lots to revise... really helpful to watch some professional tutorials to help me on my way.
So helpful to see how you use the brush. I am going to start doing practice sketches of people and I'm optimistic I will be able to make some of them work!
Putting figures in my paintings is a daunting prospect. Your fantastic videos gave me the courage to try. The figures you paint have such life and movement. A pleasure to watch. Thank you.
Dear sir, your figures are the cutest on earth...[honestly, all the others produce trash]... bought myself your little sabel brush nr 6... some of our favourite colours , took the best water from the tap and I am going to disappear until I,m able to paint at least one decent figure.... bye bye, wish me luck, ...
I did try this technique and am amazed how easy this is. And the figures look very convincing even though they have almost no detail. I will definitely add them to my paintings from now on. I am but a novice at watercolors but have gained an immense amount of knowledge from all of you generous You Tube masters. Thank you!!
Thanks Trevor. So much motion going on and how the viewers imagination fills in the depth as suggested by the brush strokes. It's quite relaxing just watching you actually. Thanks again.
discovered just today, and pleased to have your experience undeer my eyes, I hope to be able to paint some figures with your technic, simply and expressive enough. thanks for sharing
Thank you! Miss the classes at dubai international art Centre and seeing your fabulous paintings at the Majlis gallery! Those were the days in early dubai!
So very helpful. Thank u for making that, I have always struggled with making figures in my watercolors feel and look organic. These tips are absolutely awesome. Thanks and best of luck!
The power of gesture on display...I have practiced this routine many times as promoted in your book on people. Nice to see this demo. It is encouraging to me to practice more! I especially enjoy painting the figures when they are doing something that tells a story. Watching this, it has me thinking that rough paper is an asset. I also noted you are not using your SAA brush with the silver handle and red tip. Thanks much for this video. They are encouraging to all of us! More, please!!
More on the way !!! ...takes time though. I used a Waterford 140lb NOT on this. Useful to use the dry brush "skip " to perform a little bit more movement in the figures....yes using a sable on this which can give a lighter, softer touch.... more tricks of the trade when you visit :))) T
Hi Trevor, i am new to painting! so trying to teach myself to paint in watercolour. find your videos the best. also, love your work.and find your voice so soothing, so have painting lessons and relaxation classes thrown in! thank you. Sue.
Just saw your book, and 'am meaning to buy it so I've search for book preview in youtube first.. then I saw this video!! 'Would definitely buy that book!! And a new subscriber here!! :D
Since I discovered your little figures, I am totally addicted... as you know. Now, I found something new, something that helps me a lot... with my IPad I watch your video (little figures 1, my favourite)
@@TrevorWaughSo glad to read you. Was a bit worried, honestly. I am recovering from a serious disease, but I m back in town. Since 2020 I am a student in the Academy of art. Oil painting. I love it. I know, it’s hard to believe but my teacher says I am really gifted. Two evenings of each three hours is a piece of cake… at home I paint at least five hours a day. Hardly time for errands, eating and resting. My love for painting helped me recovering. So, I admit, my watercolours are in the cupboard, for now… to be honest, oil painting is more forgiving than watercolours… Nevertheless I regularly come watching if there’s some Waugh news… So I am very happy you’re back in town as well. Wish you all the best! Good health in the first place!
Oeps... all of a sudden, my comment was gone, ... excuse me, so I go on: here is my new method... This morning, I watched your video nr1 ( for the hundredth time) with my second IPad I took pictures of every movement you make. That is quite a lot. Then, watching picture by picture I start painting. But, because I don't want to miss the music, most inspiring, by the way, I play the video at the same time. And your comment is also inspiring. Since a few weeks I spend hours and hours trying to make the little bastards... still not very happy with the result, BUT having the most wonderful time! Thank you so much, sir. Every day, you make my day!
Hi Myriam ... A little tip...not mentioned in this vid...if it helps ...use brush pressure in a single movement to create the body of the figure... I call it "belly dancing" ....i.e. press and release in a single stroke :) ...hope this helps ...keep watching ..more vids soon . TW
Thx for the tip, sir! I'll exercise on my belly-dancing....lol. One more question, please? How much paint and water? Your brush doesn't look very loaded... although I have a sabel round nr 6, your brush looks a little thinner than mine... for the rest, what I miss, is just..... your talent!
Trevor Waugh , you are really too kind! And very patient! Thanks again for all your good advice. It is very big help. There is some progress. "Monster"-time is almost over. Still hopeful and hard training...But, if you don't mind, I've got a last (I promise!) question. What is the best size for the basic training of little figures? Sorry I bother you again. Please forgive me. But please do remember, if I became so passionate it's all your fault. Since I am in a good mood... I'll forgive you.
Masterful strokes once again and surprised just how many colours are used. (apart from something very special, I only ever use three), but Trevor always knows what he is doing and proves it with his results. Thank you Trevor.
So grateful for you super advice... painting armies of figures, here. Totally addicted. Bought some of your brushes and it really works! But I admit, a good figure still happens by accident... deep sigh...
Hello Trevor. You are an amazing artist 👏🏼. By the way, I cannot find part one of this human figures. Can you or someone share the link for that please 🙏🏼
You are really too kind and very patient. Thanks again for your advice. It is very helpful. Here there is some progress. "Monster" time is almost over... but I need more training.Last little question ( I promise). Is there a "best" size for the training of basic figures? Sorry to bother you again... but remember if I became that passionate, it is all your fault. Since I am in a good mood... I'll forgive you...

Really nice demo, clear and good mention of colours used. Now I'll get back to my painting with a better way of figure painting.
So helpful to see how you use the brush. I am going to start doing practice sketches of people and I'm optimistic I will be able to make some of them work!
