    p.s. to other viewers - 405 have watched (so far) and only 47 have given a "thumbs up"; Hsin-Chuen Lin is so generous to share his talents with us, the least we could do is hit the blue "thumbs up" icon just below the screen, and ideally make a comment as well - it works to his advantage on his UA-cam channel!

    I've watched this video several times Hsin-Chuen and cant wait until I'm well enough to try one myself
    There's quite an art to making this one piece lidded jar.
    Thank you for sharing.

    Your videos sparked my entirely unexpected fascination with wheel thrown clay and I’m so grateful for that. To my mind your submissions to you tube are the most skillful and generous to those with an interest in wheel thrown ceramics. Thank you.

    Beautiful work as ever. I preferred the look before you chattered the lid, liking the contrast of the textured sides and the smooth top.

    After watching these videos I’ve made about 20 of these. Thank you!! I have a problem though. So often the lids don’t fit and I have to grind them down or just throw them away because it’s too much effort, I can make another faster than using a diamond bit dremel.
    Why do my lids keep expanding in the glaze fire? After bisque there’s plenty of room and it seems a perfect fit even if things shrink a bit. I glaze fire with complete confidence I have plenty of give for expansion/contraction and yet my last kiln unloading proved very disappointing. Can you give me any insight?
    Thank you! I’ve learned more from you than all my in person pottery teachers combined.

      I fire the lid with body.

      @@hsinchuen thank you! It never gets stuck? I worry if the expansion or contraction happens then I won’t be able to open it. I’ve been warned about this but haven’t tried. Thanks again!

    Why black slip vs underglaze

    • @hsinchuen
      @hsinchuen  2 роки тому

      Slip is clay base and it’s easier to coat on the leather hard stage clay than underglaze.
