The interposer is the thing that connects the thing between the silicon and the solder pads on the chip, and the crystal I believe is for system clock cycles
This dude literally done what 4chan pranks decades ago, i remember in the early 2010s 4chan posted a prank "microwaving you phone can charge the battery from 0 - 100% for less than 2 minutes"
I'm guessing the metal all around acted as a shield, and the energy only managed to pass through the gaps (that are specifically made to let RF energy pass through, like wifi), so it only damaged the things close to the antenna gaps. Super interesting! RF energy "likes" corners so that would explain the burnt/melted things close to the corners too, it got hot!
I just saw the colors (purple to blue) of the steel frame at 8:12 which indicates that it heated up to just about 300°C/570°F! So..... I guess many of the internal components must have taken damage from overheating if not from short circuits directly from the magnetron... Also because of the possible local hotspots it might be that the pcbs partially delaminated and that bga components (memory/cpu/ics and controllers and such) could get broken off the pcb partially (cold solder joints) also because of the tension that is generated when the heat is not even.
I would also assume that the storage and battery had been overheated in the microwave (from the frame heating up that much). Therefore I (personally) would not trust that battery at all and the lifetime of the storage might also have been reduced because of this...
i hope in the future microwaves can be designed to automatically stop as soon as something that is metallic or metallic like that isnt suppose to be in microwave and it would beep loudly with something like ERR on display
@@ivibivivgig6425 a cheap microwave is a metal sheet box, has a transformer (that often also spins the table) and a magnetron. You might find them for as little as 10€. No "smarts" 😬 That kind of feature would be more on the expensive models and also as a "sales argument" big in the ads... Especially since the market of such devices is super competitive and many people really need nothing on their microwave besides 2 knobs to turn for time and "power" (which is not even really a power control most of the times but still works well enough)
This repair makes me wish I had coughed up extra for a fully rebuilt chassis for my 11. I had cracked the back glass and did a housing swap. I tried going cheap and only had some of the components like the buttons and charging coil installed, but I didn't have the rest of the cables pre-installed and I had the same bootlooping issue once I put the phone back together. What would've costed me an additional $20 instead cost me the phone lol
After all that repairing, I would still save all data and completely reinstall the operating system just to make sure it has rewritten, the nand probably got some data values changed due to magnetic radiation of the microwave.
Been watching your vids and I was able to fix my iPhone 11 on my own, sadly wasn’t an original Apple screen I was able to get but its still good and works 🤞
The fact that you didn't charge him speaks a lot about you. There's people who would probably charge double the brand new phones price and you did it for free. Amazing job.👏
@@mn1083 that is what I meant, he got a free repair because there's a video to moneytize his time. He wouldn't have done it if it wasn't to make a video about it
The inside of the phone is pretty good because the microwabes that the microwave makes do not go trhought metal. That is the reason of why everything that was near the charging port was worse than everything else.
you didn't need to change the housing.. the iphone 14 line will reboot if it doesn't read a charger port and a power button so if you disconnect the charging port thinking it will stop the boot loop it will NOT because you need to connect a new one but it must me installed not just hanging out like we do to iphone 8 an such.. but overall i like the video!!
I would say the problem was with antenna or charging port. When my i11 charging port was dammaged, I disconnected it and it was rebooting every 3 minutes as well
Watching your channel is therapeutic. Alsooo...I dropped my phone off my house and then accidentally slammed it in my car door. Going to change my own screen with your direction. Fingers crossed!
I guess I finally have figured out a use for jerryrigeverythings flame test. Identifying when a phone screen got so hot the amoled started to burn. It turns a lovely golden color
To answer this question by yourself, think about this : Can you put iPhone 8 components into an iPhone 13 ? Because, the parts are almost the same, you can interchange the parts between them and it will work fine.
Just gonna drop in to provide some information why it wasn't extra-crispy: Microwaves are Electromagnetic waves that make atoms vibrate enough to where they heat up. It's why microwaves can heat up food. Why this phone survived is actually mentioned at the start of the video: Most damaged parts, through direct microwave exposure, are the external and glass components of the phone as they're the most "happy" to absorb the microwaves (crystalline structures) with the corners being most damaged because of another facet of how microwave ovens work (basically refraction/reflection of the of the waves inside the oven creates more or less a specific, overlapping, field of microwaves in a 2D plane which is why in a fair number of them you don't get heating in the center of your food as hard as on the edges and due to imperfections in the fields, higher quality microwaves has fewer of them, you can get heating much more on one side than on the other which also explains why the corners aren't all uniformly schiessed). The exposure was too low for the metal casing and glass of the phone to become hot enough to where they began properly leaking microwaves into the inside of the phone. So yeah, glass screen and back + metal chassis saved this phone more or less. If it had a plastic screen it'd have fried.
Interposer is also known as "Sandwich Splitting" Since the Motherboard is made up of 2 layers, those error codes essential means that the board is in the process of splitting apart. Device could work short term, but it will not work long term. "NAND" is however the storage memory chip on an IPhone. TLDR: Phone is dying slowly and data needs to be backed up ASAP, since it can die in either 2 mins, 4 hours, 2 months, a year even. You can't say for sure.
Imagine coming from a party drunk and your gonna have a nap but the first thing you do is put your very expensive iPhone 14 in a microwave. Cant be me…
