Years ago we built an inside upstairs and downstairs fireplace. We told the owner at least ten times do NOT put a fire in until the house is done (a few months) or 30 days minimum. He didn't believe us. We came back to do something in a week or so and he had tried to burn the trash cardboard and construction scraps in the downstairs fireplace. It cracked the whole face from the corner of the fire box face about 1/2 inch wide all the way to the ceiling level. It didn't crack the up stairs face however. Dumb ass. (The mortar takes at least 28 days to cure but also inside where you cant see is not cured as much and that creates STEAM inside and things go to hell}----------------Also do not burn the Christmas tree. It is extremely hot.
