  • There were plenty of warning signs at the start of the hike up to Mount Amos summit in Freycinet National Park, Tasmania. Turns out the signs were legit and actually were preparing us for a very steep climb to the top.
The hike is 2km and took us 3 hours but the sign reads 3-5 hours depending on your level of experience and fitness.
After about 10 minutes the hike turns into boulder scrambling which is what majority of the climb consists of. There are large exposed boulders often with nothing to hold on to that you must scale to get to the top.
After 1 hour and 10 minutes we reached the summit which had incredible views over Wineglass Bay and the rest of Freycinet National Park. We spent quite a while at the top, taking in the views and getting lots of photos. We also timed it perfectly to catch the sunset at the top.
Make sure you are prepared if you are going to do this hike. I would highly recommend hiking shoes/boots and take a backpack with supplies as well as you just never know what could happen.

Nice one guys. Very gutsy to head down in the dark; I did it early afternoon and it was hard enough with full visibility.

Thanks Andy! Yeah it was a little bit and probably wouldn’t recommend but wasn’t as bad as I’d expected. Still a challenging hike though!
