  • Welcome to Tasmania and the stunning East Coast! There are so many epic things to do in Tasmania but the East Coast is the most commonly recommend, but what are the best things to do there? Check out these great flight deals to Tasmania: geni.us/kJgMQLz ⬇ See below for more recommendations ⬇
    Welcome to the East Coast of the seriously epic Tasmania, a gem of Australia! Believe it or not, there's so many more amazing locations beyond just Wineglass Bay... which is on the list, because it lives up to the hype!
    Trust us when we say the East Coast is much larger and more vast than what you might assume, there's so many incredible beaches, locations, towns, food stops, vineyards and things to do. After receiving a massive list of ideas from you/locals/other travellers we checked out a bunch of things to do on the East Coast and cut out the crap, putting just the top 8 must do's in this video.
    1. Wineglass Bay is a bloody winner, so many stunning views, amazing hikes both long and short and what a coastline! You can actually book some good tours out there - geni.us/9qEt
    2. Friendly Beaches is just up the road and definitely worth a stop, a surf, a picnic or walk on the beach.
    3. National Parks - don't forget to pickup your parks pass!
    4. Wine - there's loads of great vineyards around, but Devils Corner came highly recommended and exceeded our expectations! Either check it out or look into a wine tour of the region: geni.us/t4U8xsB
    5. Seafood is everywhere, obviously. Lobster Shack has a reputation for a good reason: www.lobstershacktasmania.com.au/
    6. Bay of Fires is worth a few days exploring, base yourself close and spend some chill days on the beach, swimming and checking out the boulders. Easier to get beach access than somewhere like Wineglass Bay, you can just pull over the car and walk out to endless white sand beaches.
    7. Little Blue Lake is a bit out of the way, so could be skipped if you don't have time, but on a sunny day it looks like a really unique spot to explore!
    8. Floating Sauna was a real surprise, I was expecting to genuinely hate it (Dane, I hate the cold, you know that by now haha) but my first experience of hot/cold therapy was a win and I'm sold - www.floatingsauna.com.au/
    Don't forget to book your flights with Jetstar here to let them know we're doing a good job showing off these siiiiiick (in and Aussie accent) places that are worth checking out: geni.us/kJgMQLz

    It's like a scavenger hunt for unforgettable moments, and the prize is a camera roll full of jaw-dropping landscapes. From sampling more seafood than you thought possible (sorry, waistline!) to getting lost in the mesmerizing Bay of Fires' orange lichen-covered rocks (who knew rocks could be so fashionable?), it's a journey filled with surprises. Hopefully, in the future, my dart would land in this beautiful place.

    Tassie reminds me so much of the Western Cape in South Africa! Especially the beaches, mountains and wine farms!

    I enjoyed this video- despite the childhood memories of extreme sunburn whilst camping at friendly beaches! 😉 That said- I’m actually amazed that you only did half the wineglass bay experience! It’s not an easy hike, and your leg muscles will remind you of that for many days afterwards, but it’s almost like a pilgrimage- you would have to actually experience it to understand the feeling that you get when you reach the beach at wineglass bay - just going to the lookout is nothing in comparison…. Also, I don’t suppose anyone clued you in about curried scallop pies from the East Coast? If you missed the scallop pies…..

    Gosh those *views* are gorgeous. Gotta get myself down there one day! How's the driving? That's always been my concern going in winter, is what the driving would be like with the shorter days and the potential weather. (Also, sad to say but the tree in question broke in a storm in 2021)

    • @carokat1111

      The roads around Cradle Mountain and the west coast can be dodgy in winter. We had snow just this week at Cradle ( unseasonal) so be prepared for anything.

    • @DanegerAndStacey
      @DanegerAndStacey  7 місяців тому +1

      Yeah as below, roads can be sketchy! At night times it's actually ridiculous, you basically can't drive because of the wild life - a lot of locals finish work an hour or so before sunset to get home!

    Hi guys, great videos in the Tasmania series. We have a trip to Aus next month and will have only one to two days in Tasmania. On our way from Hobart to Launceston, we were planning to see cradle Mountain and the Marion’s lookout hike. After seeing your video we now want to see the east coast (impossible to do both). If you were to pick one of the two, which one would you recommend?

    • @DanegerAndStacey
      @DanegerAndStacey  8 місяців тому +2

      Really depends what you’re into, but Cradle seems like it would be too hard to fit into your time frames. Go East!

    • @carokat1111
      @carokat1111 7 місяців тому +2

      Tasmanian here. You can’t possibly see Cradle Mountain, Launceston and Hobart in 1-2 days. Even doing the East Coast is pushing it. Cradle is my favourite place in Tasmania but it’s a five hour drive from Hobart, with a rest stop, so I always give myself a long weekend to see it. It’s closer from Launceston, but there’s still a lot of time spent in the car. The distances are longer than people realise and the roads can be windy and slower in places so it takes more time than you think. My advice is don’t try and cram too much in. If your time is short, I recommend flying in to Hobart and driving to the Tasman Peninsula- you could then see Port Arthur, Remarkable Cave, do a whale watching cruise, hike the fabulous coastline. That’s my hot tip!

      @memoriesofwylie 7 місяців тому

      @@carokat1111 thank you for the tip. What is your opinion on the Southwest National Park? Possible to do as a day trip from Hobart? And most importantly if I skip Cradle, can I see wombats there?😅

    • @carokat1111
      @carokat1111 7 місяців тому +2

      @@memoriesofwylie The Southwest National Park is beautiful but a long and windy drive from Hobart. The really only accessible spot to access it is Strahan which is a good five hour drive from Hobart. You could do a day trip to Mt Field National Park from Hobart and I'd recommend it as the option to see what some of the cool temperate rainforest is like. It's not in the World Heritage area, but it is a good 'taster' for what the bush has to offer. There's the pretty Russell Falls, an accessible walk and a cafe. It's a 90 minute drive from Hobart and it passes through some attractive villages. Depending on when you are visiting, you could also get berries from the Westerway farm en route, which is something I always do! In terms of wombats, there are really only two places where you will be likley to see them: Cradle Mountain (definitely) and Maria Island (probably). Maria is closer to Hobart but still a bit awkward to get to. It's off the lower part of the east coast and requires a one hour drive and a ferry which can be unreliable. If you start your day early from Hobart this is not a bad option, but make sure there's a ferry running. Ronny Creek at Cradle Mountain has what I call 'the wombat walk'. Most I've seen there on one walk was 21. They are always there and it's one of the reasons I love Cradle so much. Hope this helps.

      So many breweries in Tassie. Some of my favourites are Little Rivers (especially the Dark Lager), Bruny Island (especially Whey Stout), Shambles (Baggy Green Session IPA), T Bone (Choc Milk Stout)... I could go on. And yes, I like dark beers, but I did include one IPA. And even if you're a dark beer skeptic, give the LR Dark Lager a shot. Otherwise you won't go too far wrong with a pint Cascade Draught on our one 30 degree day a year.
