Well darn! I was waiting to see how that rake worked on that. The clippings looked pretty small and i know it'd be tough for the baler to pick it up. When i had horses, i was told not to feed short cut grass because they'd colic, so maybe the rain was a good thing.
She was mainly feeding it to goats so I don’t think it would have been a problem for them. I’m hoping to get my sicklebar mower rebuilt this winter. It should be a lot better than this setup is. Thanks for watching Rusty!!
Gotta say, I've never seen hay cut with a rotary mower.. but at the same time, I've gotta say, I've raked a lot of rotary mower clippings in to the windrow and put them in bales.. It should dry alright, might not make horse hay, but should be fine for cattle, goats and sheep.. Good luck!!
I'm hoping to get my sicklebar mower rebuilt this winter so I don't have to use this setup anymore. Of course, I've been saying that for several years now...other projects keep moving ahead of it. Our "hay" has always just been mulch for my wife's gardens and bedding for the chickens, so I was never that worried about the quality. We'd like to raise a few cows eventually so I need to get something better sooner or later. Thanks for watching, Ed!
