One of the aspects of Legoshi's personality that makes him really lovable is, as stated in the video, how reflective and introspective he is. It allows the viewer passage through his thought process and allows us to completely comprehend the reasons for his decisions while developing Legoshi as character simultaneously in a seamless manner. It ensures that the viewer understands his fears and self-hatred.
On another note, I adore how he comes across as shy and introverted without seeming like a pushover.

I think at first, he was kind of a push over, just kinda accepting his life, but as he evolved he changed his he acted and began to stand taller. I think the series symbolizes this with his height, remember how he grew taller as the series went on?

He was a pushover at the start, due to how unwilling he was to let ANY anger out... just look at the scene where Louis jammed his own hand within his jaws.
As for him physically growing up, there is two part to this: one is simply something undesirable to him that pulls him further apart from those he seeks to protect and makes others fear him, in a way being his own body pulling away from who he wants to be at that time... and the other is related to him accepting himself as a carnivore

Depends entirely on what you mean by "better"... I would say however that I would personally trust more someone who has proven to be able to consistently and reliably overcome their worst instincts than someone who has always ever been good because they never even had an evil instinct to begin with, and the reason is that I don't know how trustworthy would the latter be when they eventually are faced with a choice that brings out their worst instincts, while the former has already proven themselves at doing exactly that.

One of the most fascinating aspects of Beastars looking back is how Louis is a perfect foil to Legoshi. Legoshi tries to act like a prey when he is a predator while Louis tries to act like a predator when he is a prey. There differences and development especially are highlighted when Haru gets kidnapped, Louis realizes that he'll be powerless to change anything (at least in his mind) no matter what he tries, giving up is a more preferable idea but Legoshi even if his desires are selfish decides to take the initiative to save Haru could actually make a change in his society and because he is humble he has no idea how big the implications of a wolf getting together with a rabbit would be. Louis can only think of the big picture, how much flare and fame it would be to have the Beastars title but in the end he ends up being the equivalent to a king, all show and no go. In this way you could argue Legoshi is the equivalent of a knight who might not have the wealth of a king but has an incredible might that cannot be stopped.

Ironically enough, this whole series felt like a love letter to what it means to be human. In a show filled with animals, I have never seen more characters act so humanistic. I feel like I could relate to Legoshi especially. I'm a quiet introverted guy born into a good place in society, and yet so much horror happens on a daily basis in this world we live in. Legoshi wants a world where everyone can live in peace and so do I. We have to use our power to make the world a better place, one step at a time. I can't express how fantastic this show is narratively. How deep it's willing to go in all sorts of subject matter. A true masterpiece, through and through.

    • @Adorni
      @Adorni 4 роки тому +25

Salokin This isn’t anything new, as some of the oldest stories use animals as a means of metaphor. That said, Beastars might be one of the better allegories to do this as it really tries to examine what being in a society means when you have so many things to take into account. I think this is why the show is as well-received as it is.

Legosi is the best anime protagonist in over a decade. He’s wonderfully developed and written, amazingly voice acted, and generally the most likable MC I’ve seen in forever. The self-loathing parts of his character ring especially true to me, he’s relatable and sympathetic while also being flawed and I genuinely want to see things work out for him and him to be happy. I’m so glad I gave this show a chance because it’s easily my favorite anime probably since Cowboy Bebop first came out.

Emiya Shirou is even more interesting for me because he accepted both sufferings and happiness of world as beauty of life itself. Good and bad, ugliness, hatred and love of human. Everything is beauty of humanity. Accepting them, understanding them, overcome them, find meaning behind them and again going into this cycle of despair & hope is itself the beauty of human life. These conflict create meaning in their life. Without them, humans are empty and blank from inside. That's why conflict is always needed but fighting them and overcome them realistically is also important.

Personally, I've been longing for a show like this for a VERY LONG time. It shows the complexity of people and society and that resonates with me because in our own society we don't want to acknowledge those things. For example with Legosi people take two or three of his characteristics and define him by them, like what people do today. But then you have people like his best friend who understands him on a deeper level. Legosi is a person with layers...like an onion. There is more to his person than just a couple characteristics. There are layers to his personality, his beliefs, and his mental mindset. That's why at least for me this show is more empowering than a typical two-dimensional shounen anime. Like Alexzandxr says, it shows him fighting the internal parts of himself and then finding peace with it (balancing it). It shows him trying to find a place in society, coming to terms with the fact that it's not perfect, and then realizing that if there's no place in society for him he can make one (in my opinion). He does not take the stereotypes everyone else has to heart and instead forms his own opinion through what he sees. Its how you look at life, yourself, and society as a whole that will actually make you a mentally stronger person. I've been through what Legosi has all throughout my childhood because I was always acutely aware of the complexity of my personality, how it affected where I fit in, and how others choose to see me. It's a much more realistic message of heroism (because the show is still tagged as a shounen) than two-dimensional fights with large explosions and op powers. So when I see people just diss this show because it does not fit the template of a regular shounen anime (or looks like a show for furries) it really does remind of the mental age gap and really disappoints me.
Sorry for the long rant lol. I'm just so ecstatic that someone made an in-depth analysis of this character which connects to the storyline as a whole. After all, a good book or show is driven by the characters, not the plot (though it is important). ^^

Legosi's struggle with his own nature, with fundamentals of his own being, is something I can deeply relate to. Not to go too personal things, I've always had problems controlling my anger and I was always physically stronger than my peers and that is a very dangerous combo. I fought it for a long time, tried rejecting my anger and my strength completely, and it backfired horribly and I nearly crippled someone because of it. From there, over time I finally learned not to reject my anger and not to reject my strength, but to embrace them and control them. To use them for good and to control them, not try to get rid of them. And just like Legosi, I still have a lot to figure out, but at least the path I'm on makes me truly happy and others around me safe, so I think it's the right direction to take.

  • @Mucrush

Something I just now noticed in regards to Louis is that from episode 1 to 4, Louis has been hating Legosi because he suppresses his instinct. Then because of the events of episode 4, where Louis sees Legosi go all out, not holding back, he kinda finds new respect in him. Because after that, he no longer feels this way about him. Until episode 9. Once he himself ends up in the same kind of situation, where he needs to lie about the truth, he fights Legosi by throwing it all back at him like he did in the beginning. This time though, because Haru is involved, Legosi does give in and expresses his true feelings with a mighty FALCON PUNCH.
It all just shows that Louis' hate for Legosi was probably a mask, hiding his hate for himself and what he'd become. Hiding his past, hiding who he truly is. Hiding his own feelings for Haru.

I was able to relate a lot to Legosi. I have problems with controlling my anger, to the point that the even the smallest inconvenience can drive me mad. I got into a lot trouble several times, because of it. I used to be a very pacifistic person, but my anger got the best of me on many occasions. I started hating both my anger, as well as myself. Not helped by the constant bullying I received at school, and the pressure that school put on me. I tried the "Conceal it, don't feel it" approach, but it didn't always work. There were instances were I snapped and almost hurt someone, or broke something. I love my family and friends dearly, but sometimes they annoy me so much that I envision doing things to them that are so horrible that I would instantly go to jail for it. As a result, my biggest fear became that I'd grow up to be a violent and brainless brute, who'd beat up anyone, including children and animals. I developed depression and anxiety, thinking of myself as just a failure or a monster, who doesn't deserve to live. I isolated myself and became very introverted, barely sharing anything with anyone and only talking to them when I needed help with my studies. My anger got so bad that one time, I kicked a hole into my bedroom door. Another one is when I yelled and argued with my Geography teacher, in class. Or when I opened a door and a kid from the other side ran into me, I grabbed him by his shirt and threw him onto the ground.
I came to the realization that if I don't find a way to control my anger, my future will be disastrous. I started practicing techniques that could help me with my anger. Such as: writing articles about the things that pissed me off, and started working out. As time went on, I finally learned how to control my anger better. I still get easily frustrated, but I no longer see it as something harmful. Every day, I work out at my house for at least two hours, not just to stay in-shape, but also as a way to vent my anger in a non-harmful way.
I accepted my anger as part of who I am, but also learned to control it better, and that there is a time and place where I can use it, without feeling like I'm some kind of monster.
Legosi as character really spoke to me, because I was also struggling with controlling the "inner beast" that's inside me, especially since I didn't want to hurt anyone. I learned from my experiences and became a more mature person, as a result.

Hello, Legosi's battle with his instincts touched me too. At first, I had no idea why I was relating so much with Legosi or why this show was causing me intense dreams and making me feel depressed. Now I realize that it is because like Legosi, I am in a constant struggle for control. Looking deep within myself, there is a hidden need for control that displays itself in my actions and unconscious. It is hidden so deep within me, that it can only be discovered to exist through symptoms. The symptom that allowed me to identify this need for control was my own battle over instincts. Right before watching this show, I confronted a repetitive and deep-rooted obsession that stems from abuse: a need to be intelligent and viewed as intelligent. Like Legosi, I accepted that this would always be an obsession of mine, that it would always be in the back of my mind, but also recognized that it was toxic -- not because it could not be controlled, but because of its nature (which I am now working on changing).
My intense reaction to Legosi's battle over instincts helped me realize that beyond my struggle for control over this one toxic obsession, there is a primal fear of losing control deep within me, which impacts my entire being.

He kinda just stops thinking about how others might view him and just accepts that’s he’s a deviant in this worlds society. Even with all this, he keeps trying to become kinder and more considerate of the those he cares about

    I'll be honest
An anime hasn't pulled my interest like this since FMAB and Inuyasha. This is the first anime in nearly a decade that has actually got me motivated to read the manga (on chapter ten, started reading immediately this morning 😌) and I literally watched the first season just yesterday. I can't wait to see how these arcs conclude and I want to see Legosi figure out how to be happy with himself and how to overcome the internal struggle he's facing along with the external conflict of being a carnivore in love with an herbivore.
This story is stunning me so far with its nuances of character, especially in the case of Legosi, Haru, and Louis.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

I really need to watch this show. I already massively relate to Legosi, being born about as equivalent to a "wolf" as one can be. Well over 6 ft tall, broad shouldered, naturally strong, etc. Growing up I was always taught to hold back because others are smaller than me. I had several outbursts as a kid where I nearly seriously hurt others, once even at church. And then as I grew up and the gap between me and others only grew I began to notice more social aspects, people being nervous around me when I dont smile and joke around, strangers in public (particularly women) seeing me as a threat, stuff like that. And for a long time I had serious issues with myself, and my anger management. My constant bottling up of my emotions getting so bad it's actually caused a neurological issue that makes me physically twitch and spasm under emotional stress. So yeah, I can relate to Legosi more than a bit

He has a very strong distaste towards Legosi in the beginning because he is so confused by him! Here’s this imposing grey wolf who chooses to be timid and meek and Louis can’t believe what he’s seeing because well why would anybody not want to use the power that has been gifted to them? This show was legitimately phenominal. I finished watching it today. The only issues I had with it were the issues I have with anime in general. I feel the high school setting held it back, given how adult the themes of the show where (though I will say they did handle it far better than most anime), as well as how clunky and overwrought dialogue can be. I may be wrong, but I doubt the phrase "This is what it means to be X in this world" is a particularly common phrase in Japanese society, but anime series sure do love using that faux philosophic dialogue structure a lot.
Which sucks, because the show does actually have a lot to really contemplate and discuss, and I wish it was able to trust in it's audience to not have to spell it out in such a clunky manner. But again, the show handles it far better than most.
Also Juno is best girl, and I say that as someone who rarely has a best girl. On that note, I love how the main women of the cast actually go for what they want, and have real agency in their actions, as opposed to being objects to oggle at. Every time the camera viewed them in a sexualised manner, they wanted to be seen like that, and the one time one of them really did not want to be seen like that, the framing was anything but sexual, even turning into a moment of defiance against it. Excellent show.

I actually enjoyed it a lot more because the setting was high school. All these kids are sheltered in the safety of the school. Most are still quite innocent. The moment they step out of the shelter, they're faced with the grim reality and the stark contrast hit me a lot harder. Seriously that guy who sold his fingers to carnivores was such a haunting image. Not to mention the fact that other students were willing to take the guy's offer. Compare that to the scene in the school cafeteria where the carnivore students are happily chowing down tofu burger or something.
The only bit I found ridiculous was how Legoshi, a teen wolf, was able to fight his way through a mob of fully grown male lions lol Sure he had master panda to help him but still.

Beastars has made me feel emotion that other shows haven't made me feel in a fucking WHILE and I love it.

Thank you for this. This video perfectly describes what makes Legosi, and Beastars as a whole, so special. It even made me kinda emotional because I personally identify with him a lot. Sometimes I feel like this show is a godsend for me, I never identified with a character that much, in any show. So, it´s really inspiring to see him grow up and overcome his doubts and flaws, just like I'm trying to do. I'm so glad to have been born just in time to witness this show. And this video.

I relate to Legosi a lot.
Because of the toxic relationship between my parents)( no Diss just that they have a very unhealthy dynamic) I find myself scared to get intimate in my relationships because I am scared I might be just as toxic but it gives me a bit of confidence when I see how Legosi overcamr it
