    For that sticking cover release button I use food grade silicone spray. Leaves no residue and does not collect dirt.

      Thanks for the tip! I may have to give that a try. I've been getting a lot of cool tips and tricks in the comments so I'd like to start incorporating commenters ideas in my videos 🙂

    I've faced the same isuues with aliexpress lasers, they're pretty crap. Looking forward to seeing how this story goes with the oscilloscope

      It's weird. I honestly haven't had issues so far with lasers from AliExpress until this one lol. But the lasers I've gotten seemed like new-old stock where the markings matched the originals. This one struck me as a knockoff and the labels didn't match the original so I think it's new stock. But when I get an oscilloscope I definitely want to do a video to close this out no matter if it works or not. If it works then I can show how to make it work. If not, well proof not to waste your money on them lol.

    la altura del que sujeta el CD spindle pueda estar o muy alta o muy baja o necesita regular mas el potenciometro y por ultimo algun capacitor desvalorizado q manda señal al lector

    Not only aliespress lasers have problems. I instaled original laser from SCPH-102 to SCPH-1002 and need calibrate it after (multimeter and osciloscope).

      It seems to be a thing with the PS1s. It's like the official service manual said. You have to recalibrate it. Which stinks when you don't have the equipment (like me lol).

    did you checked the fuses?

    • @titanrepairs
      @titanrepairs  5 місяців тому

      No. Which fuses? I'll check them in the follow up video.

    •  5 місяців тому +2

      @@titanrepairs check your model and look the schematics, fuses are labeled PS and literally signaled with an arrow. I'm sure the official manual will show them. MAn those lasers are easy to calibrate or broken, chinese copies are terrible (wont las more than 3 months without need to recalibrate...) I don' think an oscilloscope would solve the issue. Keep the console and buy an ODE for it to put the games on micro SDs directly, I think xstation is the name. Also make sure, bellow the board if there are previously installed modchips. I've seen them go bad on their own or the installation messing after decades because of a badly soldered cable and they wont even read official disks

    • @titanrepairs
      @titanrepairs  5 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for the info! Very helpful ☺️ I'll look into the ODE and xstation. Maybe I can mod it and sell it that way.

    Don’t buy crap like that. Use the original laser and with an oscilloscope check: jitter, envelope and amplitude of RF signal.

    I have a fat PS2 question I was wondering if you could assist with. I have a 39001 fat that has drive issues, the disk drive will do a single 1/4 turn and do nothing more. Any idea what causes this/how to fix?

    • @hectoralejandrotorrespopoc9232
      @hectoralejandrotorrespopoc9232 3 місяці тому

      The laser is out of the focus point, it will not identify the presence of a disc, you need to adjust the positicion gear of the dvd assembly inside, i have 3 39001, all suffered from the same symptom.

    22:00 watch out when you let the screwdriver slip inside the screwhead, tiny metal shavings are jumping off and they can short circuit chips if they happen to fall just right (ask me how i know this :p )

      Thanks for the tip! I didn't even give it any thought. But now I will.
      Also, good eye! I didn't think the ancient camera I film with picked up details that fine. Or my eye sight is going in my age and didn't notice in editing lol.

    You will need to adjust the spindle height, the laser is working fine with most of the adjustments you did to the new assembly, the only thing it lasts is to lower sonething like one or two mm the spindle and the laser will start reading the cd's, it is becasue the cd is out of the focus of the laser and doesn't return data for it to be identified by the phototransducer. Every single cd/dvd drive i have worked with suffers from the same issue eventually, like if due to the rotations the spindle elevates on the axle until the laser can't recognize the disc entirely. I recently worked on the same model of ps1 and it had the same problem, it now works like new. If the original laser is still working you should check under the plastic cover i found in mine the copper flex forming crystals and corrosion happening between the lines reaching to the laser.

    • @titanrepairs
      @titanrepairs  3 місяці тому

      Thank you for the tip! Where exactly is the adjustment point for the spindle?

    • @hectoralejandrotorrespopoc9232
      @hectoralejandrotorrespopoc9232 3 місяці тому

      @@titanrepairs first you need to see with a phone camera if the infrared laser is working fine, should be as bright as a remote controller ir led. In the ps1 the spindle is fixed to the axle by pure friction, you need to push or pull the spindle up/down a little bit, the best to test the adjustment is with a music cd, the ps1 doesn't need to restart and with a music cd it will show underlaying laser issues with data allignment if some parts of the disc can't be read as you change from song to song as the laser struggle to reach that position.
      Also, as prevention, you want to check for sulfated pins of the connectors for the motor and laser assembly.

    So im kinda doing a proyect like this myself and I've read that those two faintly spins that the laser does its like the basic motion it does when it doesnt really focus on a CD-R and it may be a problem fixable with an oscilloscope. im hitting the same brick wall cause I got an "original" laser, an Aliexpress one, and another one on the way cause for the love of god I cannot make this work. sadly I cant afford neither I know someone with an oscilloscope, so if this new laser comes and it doesnt work then I'll just give up. even adjusting the pot do some work on the laser but it didnt last long at all. maybe a couple reads. and Im trying both burned backups and original games, so Idk what to do now. I'll be wating for a follow up for this video. at least I learned how to change spindles. if it works I might edit and post how I made mine work but I'm not getting any expectations what so ever. sadly Xstation is the way to go for moding a ps1 but on my country even tho I had the money I cant seem to get one so gg.

      @titanrepairs I got an update on my project!.
      just a few minutes ago arrived the last laser drive, and upon inspection, the spindle doesnt spins smoothly, and it got a clicking noice. thanks to this video the first thing that I did was cheking if the lil screws where touching the spindle and they certainly did. one of them was spun out of the socket so I tried to replace it with one of the other lenses that I got and it didnt fit perfectly at the start but, I used my card for the atm to lift the spindle from the center evenly so it doesnt break and it clicked. then I gave the actual lens a lil q-tip with IPA action.
      I also used a multimeter to see how much of a crank they gave to the pot of this lens driver and it stays still at 780.
      at this point with the psx stripped of the top plastic I use one of the burned backups that I got of Final Fantasy Tactics. and IT BOOTED. in a good timing if I must say. no delays, no fmv skipping, nothing at all. the lens mechanism for its movement sounds okay as well, seems to be well greased.
      I also just tested a Copy of Metal gear solid and Megaman X5 and Q-bert and it works perfectly. so it seems I finally finished the project with at least one lens in a working state.
      idk if is ok with the owner fo this channel but I can put the listing of MercadoLibre from which I bought the lens driver. but Idk if they sells overseas, nonetheless If anyone from Chile comes across with this comment it might be helpful.

      Hola, he trabajado en la bahía de discos de 4 ps2, 3 xbox, 1 360 y varias bocinas retro con lector de cd y casi todo lo he devuelto a leer discos, lo que puedo decir es que si eres capaz de ver el láser encender con la cámara de un celular entonces lo que hace falta es el ajuste de la posición, cuando da una o dos vueltas sin reconocer el disco es porque está demasiado lejos, lo que necesita es que la base donde reposa el disco se ajuste un poco más abajo, tal vez al recibir el nuevo lector reajustaste la posición y por eso funcionó bien a la primera, casi todos los ajustes que hago involucran eso, tal vez es por el uso o la vibración, pero la base donde reposan los discos siempre termina más arriba de lo que debería.

      @@hectoralejandrotorrespopoc9232 excelente info. al final el cambio del spindle de mi psx (la base de plástico a la que te refieres) era el principal problema, al ajustar la altura de la misma y los tornillos que viene de fabrica logré hacerlo funcionar sin problemas. aun no e probado el resto de lectores que compre en la duración del proyecto (compre como 4) pero asumo que si se les da el mismo tratamiento puedan funcionar igual. ahora si cualquier lector fue manipulado en el potenciómetro como recomiendan algunos videos, ajustarlo con un oscilómetro análogo es necesario para volverlo a un estado de fabrica. sin embargo todos llegan con lecturas distintas al medirlos con el multímetro pero al parecer la media tiende a ser 780 o cercano a ese numero. si alguien de habla hispana o Inglesa necesita ayuda o consultas sobre este tipo de proyectos, no tengo problema en responder el thread. hay poca info en internet y más que nada es por aportar a la comunidad.

      Casi no hay gente que hable español, sepa sobre estas cosas y le guste compartir lo que sabe, si gustas puedes buscarme en la red azul de mark, tengo el mismo user que aquí. (A ver si esta vez no me borran mi comentario).
      La verdad estaría bien poder platicar con alguien sobre estas cosas porque de plano en los foros te dejan tirado o te dan información del año del caldo cada que haces una consulta.

    The PS2 lasers from aliexpress are finicky as well and usually require Lens Changer to get them up and running. Which means these probably need some calibrating as well. Did you try the lasers on another system to see if they work? I wonder if it's the board itself.

    • @titanrepairs
      @titanrepairs  8 місяців тому

      The only PS2 lasers I've ordered from AliExpress was the 400R laser. I only did that because I couldn't find the 400R anywhere else (and it was before I heard of Lens Changer lol). I think I ordered 3 just in case there was a dud or two. The first one worked but spares are nice to have. But I think they were new old stock since all the markings matched the OEM laser. Otherwise I order my PS2 lasers from a company called Total Console on Amazon. They're oem lasers and I've never had a problem. Plus if I did get a dud I can just return it lol. Otherwise I've ordered PS3 lasers from AliExpress and I've never had a problem with them. But again the markings all matched OEM. I remember reading that OEM lasers are calibrated in the factory. I don't think these Chinese manufacturers are calibrating them. Especially since some say to calibrate them in very broken English on the listings lol.
      I haven't tried in another system. I have another with the same issue so it's worth a shot! I personally don't think it's the board since the factory service manual has a whole section on calibrating them after replacement so I think it's just a thing with these systems but definitely worth ruling it out for sure.

      @@titanrepairs I know new old stock of PS3 lasers are still floating around out there but I highly doubt PS2 and PS1 are. As far as I know, no one makes new lasers of those anymore and the supposedly "new" lasers are actually just refurbished ones. Which explains why they are finicky.

    If u want to make it work and dont want anything else. I fixed mine 5501 exactly like yours. When it spins 2 times and nothing else u have to move the potentiometer with OHMs on the multimiter its " recomended " about 650-750 but!. Mine works on 550ohms so i just recomend to move it around without the multimiter until it spins u can break it i didnt. Theres a point when the motor spins like a motor of a car then u go down from there there should be 2 points where the disc read correctly mine were on 550 and on 930 but 930 didnt read all games only a few and 550 read everything. So good luck im pretty sure u still can do that and make it work like i did, luck from Argentina

    You are doing it all the hard way. No, the big gear gets pinched underneath and pushed out. Then they all just basically fall out. As far as the laser slide if you look there is a notch that after you pull each clip allows the slide gear to move back a little more and drop out. They really are identical. I'm not sure why you had so much trouble. It is like that it should go back to the home position automatically.

      Story of my life. Doing things the hard way 🤣 But thanks for the tips my friend! I'll play around with one of my bad ones and do an update video down the line 😊 I think I mentioned in the video I don't work on PS1s too often so I definitely need more repair experience with this particular console to be more proficient. Comments like yours I really appreciate reading 😊
