  • Another busy day calls for a quick and easy recipe. Today, we're making pork and cabbage dumplings in a homemade sweet and spicy sauce. While I'll share the dumpling recipe here, I'll also create a step-by-step video when I restock my freezer with more dumplings.
    Pork and Cabbage Dumpling Recipe
    Ingredients:
    - 1 lb ground pork
    - 2 cups finely sliced napa cabbage
    - 1 egg
    - 1 teaspoon white pepper
    - 2 teaspoons salt
    - 1 teaspoon sugar
    - 1 tablespoon cornstarch
    - 1 package dumpling wrappers
    Dumpling Instructions:
    1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground pork, finely sliced napa cabbage, egg, white pepper, salt, sugar, and cornstarch. Mix until well combined.
    2. Place a small spoonful of the pork mixture into the center of each dumpling wrapper. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water and fold over, pressing the edges to seal.
    3. To cook the dumplings, you can boil, steam, or pan-fry them according to your preference.
    Sweet and Spicy Sauce
    Ingredients:
    - 1 shallot, sliced
    - 3 tablespoons canola oil
    - 4 tablespoons soy sauce
    - 1 tablespoon sugar
    - 1 bird chili, sliced (optional)
    - 1 green onion, sliced (optional)
    - 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds (optional)
    Sweet and Spicy Sauce Instructions:
    1. In a saucepan, heat canola oil over medium heat. Add sliced shallot and cook until softened and slightly golden.
    2. Turn off heat and stir in soy sauce and sugar.
    3. Add sliced bird chili, green onion, and toasted sesame seeds if desired.
    4. Serve the sauce alongside the dumplings for dipping, or drizzle it over the dumplings for extra flavor.
    This dumpling recipe is highly versatile. Feel free to customize it by swapping out the protein and vegetables to create different variations. It's a convenient staple to keep in the freezer for quick meals when time is short. Plus, the sweet and spicy sauce pairs perfectly with the dumplings and can also be used as a dipping sauce for vegetables, meats, seafood, or as a topping for rice and noodle dishes.
