  • Yesterday Macky raced the Downieville cross country ( • I knew this would be h... ), finishing 7th in a ridiculously competitive field. Today he’ll be racing the Downieville downhill, but there’s a twist, Downieville’s rules require you to race exactly the same bike and equipment for both days and Macky decided to go super lightweight yesterday to give himself the best chance of a good result in the cross country. So the question is: will his equipment choices come back to haunt him?

    What a beast run!! 5th overall, with all those big names in the race. Not to mention the short amount of time between this and BC. I mean you really just crushed it. Amazing riding, Macky. Great teamwork from Sid , to really anchor and help you battle that out. Amazing pair of videos.

    Great run Macky. I noticed that you're getting more lean angle in those corners and you're getting faster in the rocks and gnar. Not losing much momentum. As far as not achieving your goal of winning the race, that was some seriously stiff competition. I think it's safe to say that you're one of the best MTB racers in the country. 👍👊

    Great race Macky!! Very interesting to see your tire choice and how well you and the tires did; it just goes to show that it's more about the skill of the rider vs a "brand" name on the tire. Thanks for sharing!!

    • @shitfer

      Blevins won the DH. He must have had a mechanical during the xc. Hard to find DH times online.
      Hard to tell with the editing, but Macky could have possibly gotten 4th or 5th on that climb after the bridge? That's where big time was gained. Bradyn was the only rider catching him on vid. My guess was he pinned that climb out of the saddle.

    • @sydandmacky
      @sydandmacky  8 місяців тому +1

      Blevins made the decision not to race the XC the day before (he rode but wasn't really racing) so he was fresh for the DH. And yes, the climb was probably where I could have made up some time.

    Awesome set of vids for Sat and Sunday. You guys are cranking around those sketchy sections where there is no compromise if you go down!!!! Love the cross country climbing at the start and the time trial mode once at the top.I did the race in 1997 as a 26 year old expert. Won my class, 3rd over the top of start climb (matt gerken or paul rowney got some gold), and 5th to finish overall. That course bounced me and my Bontrager around like a pinball ..... I crashed about 3 times on descent. All the vids you guys are doing are really fun - great editing..

    All I got to say is WOW! Anyone who has ever done Downieville and knows how actually insane the speeds your carrying through those sections on a crosscountry bike with crosscountry tires is wild. The waterfall was so wet this year and for those that don't know that rock is sooo slippery. You either have to tip-toe through or you have to float over it. No protective gear either...Totally mental. This is some of the most hardcore big mountain riding a person can do, and you all absolutely make it seem so deceptively easy. Amazing result, congratulations!!!

    Really enjoyed watching your video of last year's Downieville Downhill. My last race was the downhill and when I staged at the start, I was told I was the oldest racer at 55. Crashed hard on those sharp rocks and flatted. I felt shocky and had one of the expert women telling me I looked like shit and stop at first aid. Rode past the medics, knowing I had a pint of ale waiting for me at the finish. 2 pain pills, washed down with more ale, made life better.
