    When Mourinho was let go Utd were sixth in the table which wasn't that bad given where they are now. He should have been given more time at the club, look at how City, Arsenal and Liverpool backed Guardiola, Arteta and Klopp and we let Mourinho who is a legendary manager leave whilst being 6th. Pogba and players like Lingard and Martial were indeed a virus. Bailly got injured and so did Jones and he was not allowed to buy a centre back. Mourinho in my opinion is still a great manager, he was sacked at Spurs before he almost won them a trophy and at Roma he deserved a Europa League which would have been a huge achievement. We were clearly in the wrong.

    I saw games at OT quite a bit during this era and enjoyed it. There were lots of moans and groans regarding the style of football which isn’t touched on here. In my opinion the team were very fortunate to win the Europe League - it was a run of attrition and injuries without meeting top class opposition. They scraped through most rounds from memory, tiny margins clinging on…His downfall was the insistence of removing the clubs prized assets at the time such as Pogba, Martial and Rashford and being told no. I was at the game Zlatan got injured. Three seasons of being injury free would have been interesting, he was something else.

  • @chinaman1

    Honestly, the last 3 good managers I would say in United since Fergie were ranked 1. Mourinho, 2. OGS, 3. Moyes,
    Yes, I said it, Moyes.
    Moyes had a plan, He had players he wanted, but he did not get the support of the board. If he was still United Manager today with Ineos in, he would've been able to do wonders. Look at what he had done with West Ham and previously with Everton.
    OGS was actually not too bad, it was unfortunate that he did not win any trophies, but his plan had always been to keep united in European competitions and win the league as much as possible. But I feel that the pandemic hindered him a bit. And yes, the Pandemic hindered every club, but most clubs especially the top 6-7 clubs are in pretty good position already, but Man Utd was still clueless, I mean OGS wanted Haaland in the club and he had the ability to bring him in, but nope, they wanted to keep faith with Martial, which speaks volumes about the director's inability to see good players.
    Mourinho was the only one to win an important trophy and still kept united in Europe. Sure ETH did the same, but it's a different level. And again, the club decided that the players are more important than the manager, so they backed the UNDERPERFORMING players for 3-4 seasons and got rid of the 1 bright shining star in the club.

    • @red7dnaBCFC
      @red7dnaBCFC 17 днів тому +2

      Totally agree with you and also agree about Moyes. He was hired RIGHT AFTER SAF and he inherted all United's problems without proper support (e.g. United was heavily relying on RvP on 2013, he missed many games with Moyes due to injuries). It was the first time that we saw United 7th, later it became regular thing, and that time it made Moyes look a lot worse...Many said that he was clueless but look at his Everton/West Ham years. He is a great manager and personally I rate him higher than Ten Hag.
      As for Mourinho, he deserved more time and backing like Arteta/Klopp and should let him build the team. But the media is so biased against him

    hot take: all of the managers after ferguson were overhated most of the problems are on the board rather than them on why the club was doing so badly (some of them like ETH dont have that many excuses on their performances but they take blame for staff that arent their fault)
    I don't think mourinho is a good long term solution but they should have at least waited for his contract to expire, looking back on it they didnt end up having a remarkable season anyway finishing 6th and winning nothing. To start the ifs, had he been given proper backing from the board for 3 seasons (a little more than his average span as a manager) he would definetely have won more trophies or end at a more the season at a better state and leave sth for his successor to work with

    From my perspective, I think some of the clubs that Mourinho managed never really had more interest in him. I mean how do you get no support from the boards and fans. But yet they expect you to deliver good results. The man has accomplished so much and to this day some other coaches can't even match his winning records. Each and every club has politics. He came to Man United and turned things around. But why did things change afterwards? Thy started to say he has a big ego and it wasn't about ego. It's just that other people didn't want him to coach the club. I prefer to think outside the box and most of the time it's just jealousy and most managers and coaches get that a lot from people at board management. Because they feel like you setting up winning records gives you power and it does. Alex Ferguson is a definition of that and I believe if they gave Jose some time, he'd still be at Man United.
