@cybersoul2008 Sure, scaling is generally used to convert the information coming from(or to) analog cards into something meaningful to the user. For example a temperature transmitter may be wired into an analog input card. The transmitter sends a signal to the PLC analog input card which in turn converts that signal to a number for the PLC. Those numbers are not usually meaningful to us users (ie, ranging 0-16387). We use scaling to convert that to something meaningful to us - maybe 32-212 F
Very good Tutorial. This really explains allot. I'm learning automation and programing on the job with my senior programer and he has me input and do some edits often as well add items to the ladder logic with SCP and have me enter the data. While i often had no idea what the info meant, this really explains it allot where it makes much sense given what i learned doing some edits. Great info. Tutorials like this really mades things that are seemingly easy for advance programers more understandable for newer programers like me and others. So thanks much for these Tutorials.
To automationnc (russell):I am still confuse and not clearly understood how to configure analog IO.Do you have videos or notes showing full interfacing from the transmitter,sending AI to the AI card , proceesor and giving analog or digital output.A complete vids showing the complete step by step. thanks
Hello. I didn't understand the reading scale. Siemens goes from 0 to 27648 if there is no bipolar. In your explanation I didn't see anything about the engineering scale. If I send 4mA which is low value. If you send 20mA, what will be the high? On the AB website, there is a manual for the 1769 IF4 card. The 1762 IF4 card only has the one you read and it is not very practical!!!
Thanks for the comment and sorry the explanation wasn't clear to you. The primary purpose of the video was to cover how the SCP instruction works independent of any type of card. The "raw" or input values from different inputs cards can vary depending on which card is chosen. Unfortunately the 1769 would be very impractical for this video as the programming software used would not work with the Compact Logix. The 1762 is a micrologix series card and would be able to be used with this software as RSLogix500 was made for the SLC500 and micrologix processors. The primary take away I would like someone to get from this video is being able to use the SCP to scale something from one range to a different range. That information translates throughout all the AB processors and can still be used with the ControlLogix today.
