Holy crap I was not expecting this remix to go so hard with an aggressive and almost metal-core kind of sound. I will admit that DX’s new rapping vocals on 0:59 sounded very awkward & weird, and overpowered the kick drum which was oddly weaker than in previous sections. I feel like just having it be a mix of DX’s singing & rapping vocals from the very start of that section would make more sense, as it makes those chromatics actually sound cool, and the kick could keep the same strength it had before. But even with that constraint, this is still by far one of the most unique sounding remixes of GameBreaker I’ve heard. Everything from the realistic metal drums near the beginning, to the sega sound-fonts makes for a very interesting style. Also the inclusion of 1/2 time rap drums on 1:52 caught me completely off guard, and were so fucking sick to listen to. Stuff like that is a great way to tone down the energy of the song, while still maintaining most of the energy with the accompanying sounds of the instrumentals. Also I especially did not expect this song to end during the underwater section where Pico slowly became corrupted. It is admittedly disappointing that we didn’t get a climax given how much potential it could’ve had with this songs unique aesthetic. However, hearing Pico’s voice slowly because scratchier over time & tire out as if he’s giving every bit of energy he has left before dying to the virus is chilling & very well executed. This is without a doubt one of the best, and ESPECIALLY underrated remixes of GameBreaker to date. Great job, Lavv.
