Rick just loves music. Jazz, pop, rock, symphonic. If it's good, he appreciates it. Absolutely one of the best guys in the space. He's so knowledgeable and positive. We need more guys like him appreciating art in a way he can help us appreciate it alongside him.
Rick really has a way of making me appreciate records that I had written off as not worthy of my time. Very humbling. It’s so obvious that Rick has a true passion for ALL music. Thx man.
@VirtualWoodshed… if I thought for a damned weekend I would not have been able to put my sentiments into those words, but they are 100!!! Enema of the State is in my top 5 favorite albums. The songs are one thing but the mix is really what I love. One of the best sounding studio albums in my opinion. Mixed perfectly
I have been listening to blink since '99 when I was 8 and to this day, as an almost 33 year old, I never knew about the "please stay with me" backing vocal Mark does at the end...I am mind blown lol
I saw blink-182 before Travis Barker was in the band and didn’t think much of them then. Once Travis joined the band, I think it unlocked the musicianship that was there all along; the songs on enema, jacket, and blink-182 aren’t just pop punk, they are, progressive rock masterpieces. It’s a hill I will die on.
@@alfloxxddy I was the same but have started listening to the new stuff and they are still putting out good stuff, just different than before which took me a while to get over.
Everyone talks about Travis's tattoos, his fame, maybe his gf... The truth is, *that guy is the real deal. A phenomenally good drummer!!* Blistering good. 😎🇺🇸
I always liked Blink but after watching some of your videos I have a new found appreciation for their music (and music in general). I can't wait to start sharing Blink with my son!
Thank you for pointing out the great talent behind the music here. Blink182 are very good musicians, and they are not given the credit they deserve because their music is also so simple.
Hopefully on day I can finally learn Adam's Song on drums. It's my favorite song by them, but seems really hard on drums for someone who is a beginner/moderate.
The fact that I have seen Rick go across the board in rock and roll and just now found him playing what’s my age again makes me need to make sure I’m following. How did I miss this gem! Right on Rick!!
Wow! I've been listening to this song since it came out in 99, and because of the isolated track, I heard, "please stay with me" for the first time. My brain tuned it out for some reason.
I'd love to see more What Makes this Song Great episodes. Those are the ones I enjoy the most. In depth analysis, layman terms, and great music! What else do you even need?
Love his open mindedness. It makes me wanna understand music more. It would awesom to see an episode of what makes this song great of "roberts miles children". Always wanted to know why this makes me feel so nostalgic. Maybe apply the "concept" to guitar.
Have you done a deep dive of tragic kingdom? I think it's one of the best recordings out there. The mixing over-dubs layering is incredible. her voice is killer and ya overdub a few times it's like the wall of sound. Crazy this was our generation!! Now we're all middle aged and grey! Remember sitting in the car with our parents listening to their music they grew up with, we are them now!! INSANE!!
Just the way he said that.. you know right there the difference between having to kill & wanting to kill.. i can only imagine how it will change a man..
Blink were serious musicians, even though they were writing less serious songs that went hand in hand with late 90s early 00s coming of age, party movies, their arrangement was perfect and best of all was that nothing is too much and getting in the way, there’s no too much drums, guitar is not too heavy, everything is in perfect balance. Great musicians! That’s Jazz orchestra level and it’s insane that it comes from 90s pop punk band…
You do a good job. You like more than me, music 💓. I'm an old retired rock drummer. I play around with my acoustic guitar and play a little piano. Took some music theory and advanced theory. I like your podcast. I saw Warren Haynes yesterday. Covered some of Govt. Mule cover's. Cool man
I'll never be a Blink fan but def enjoy your breakdown using faders to accent individual parts that construct a very layered song that sounds deceptively 'underlayered.' Aside from that tho, like...what's my age again? 🤔🤷🏼♂️
