Add Alan Parson “I Robot”, Nektar “Remember the Future”, Camal “Moonmadness”, Jade Warrior “Last Autumn’s Dream”, Genesis “Nursey Cryme”, Colosseum “Valentyne Suite”, but overall you have a lot of great Prog albums, especially your Pink Floyd collection. There’s albums that are more like space rock, psych, or German krautrock, that have lots of Prog vibes too. There’s a whole rabbit hole you can go down. Check out Gong “You”, and the guitarist from Gong, Steve Hillage “Green”. The “Green” album was produced by Pink Floyd’s drummer Nick Mason.
Hey Chris, It's been ages! Nice to see you. Ha ha - Peter Gabriel - funny. If you like Selling England, you will like A Trick of the Tail, even though Phil has taken over on vocals. He does a great job. You need more King Crimson! I have a couple of Sky records, and I am thinking of ditching them to get some space back. Love those Supertramp records. Great collection there Chris. Seems you have all the essentials covered. Not sure I can add anything as Prog isn't a genre I know beyond the more popular albums. There is a modern prog band that is worth checking out called Pure Reason Revolution, they're a band I really like. Thanks for showing your collection.

great selection of prog Chris.........Alan Parsons is my favorite............I think I have every piece of their music. I love the artwork on these albums.....court of the crimson king (wow) and H. R. Giger's art work on brain salad surgery is amazing. Check out the rest of Giger's artwork when you have time.....what an imagination this guy has.

Some interesting discs here. Not sure I'd bracket Supertramp or ELO as prog but each to his own. I think the Americans were somewhat peripheral to the movement and in fact Germany, Italy and to some extent France had a more key role. Van der Graaf Generator were perhaps the heaviest of the British bands with a jazzier sound. I showed 'In the Land of Grey and Pink' by Caravan over on my channel the other day. No prog collection is complete without it.

I think ELO could be more accurately described as Progressive Pop. For me I usually use Wikipedia as a guide. I’ll look up the band or artist and I’ll see what Genre they are listed as. If any of them make sense to me, then that’s where I put them in my collection. At any rate, the important thing is that however you organize your records, it must make sense to you. And thank you very much for that Caravan recommendation. I don’t know that album at all but I’ll be on the lookout for it!

I think you got more prog in your collection than what you think. I see David Bowie "Station to Station" in your collection and that is definitely a prog album as are a lot of Bowie's albums. There are a lot of different prog sub genres just like you said, it's not always cut and dried. Good call putting Babe Ruth under the prog umbrella. I also have their self-titled album which is also quite good. Glad you mentioned "Kuiyama" which is ELO's masterpiece. Jeff Lynne is a huge Beatles fan, so their influence is very strongly in ELO's music. I reccommend ELP's debut album too. Very proggy but a bit easier to swallow that "Brain Salad Surgery". As far as Genesis, I would recommend "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" which is my favorite Genesis. Being a huge King Crimson fan, I love all of their albums, but some are easier to get into and others take time to grow on you. I will be posting a new King Crimson video in my "KC Studio Album" series (Episode #5 which is "Larks' Tongues in Aspic") in the next day or two, it's almost done, I just have to do some editing and needle drops. I agree that "The Division Bell" is underrated. Yes! Radiohead is definitely prog! Thank you for mentioning them! Look on the ProgArchives site....It's there! Happy to see Starcastle in your collection, that debut album you have is their best and is excellent. I was going to recommend Supertramp's :"Crime of the Century", so that is great you already had it. Triumverat is great too, "Sparticus" is another great one from them. Also, prog is not dead, it's alive and well and there are hundreds of current prog bands out there that don't get the attention they deserve. One of those that I highly recommend is Porcupine Tree, especially their albums "In Absentia" and "Deadwing", or if you like something with more psychedelic sounds, then you would also want to try their album "The Sky Moves Sideways". So many I could recommend to you based on what you showed here, but the best recommendation I could give you is to check out the ProgArchives site as it lists more progressive bands than anyone would ever be able to listen to. It also separates the bands into subgenres so that you can better concentrate on progressive music that appeals to you. Anyway, sorry for that long message, but prog rock is my biggest passion! Great video!

And speaking of Yes be sure to check out Going For The One. If you want something really unique and Proggy then check out Gentle Giant. Like I said there’s so much I could recommend… Marillion, Camel, Eloy, Porcupine Tree, Wobbler, Renaissance, and so many more. Keep exploring!

Great tour of your prog section! I'm not a very wide-ranging prog listener, but I do have a lot of Pink Floyd and some early King Crimson. I think it's worth looking for more King Crimson if you like In The Court of the Crimson King. I like the first three or four more than the later ones, but some people have it the other way around. I like the more psychedelic and less mathematical sound. I'm a huge Jethro Tull fan - I have just about everything they've done. I don't know how much of their music qualifies as prog, but the two records before Aqualung - Stand Up and Benefit - are fantastic. And the one after Thick As A Brick - A Passion Play - is great too. It's a bit more challenging and less accessible than Thick As A Brick, but it's a favourite for many people. It's grown on me the more I listen. Minstrel In The Gallery is another favourite of mine. That's interesting to consider OK Computer as a prog record, but it makes sense. If it is, then you'd have to consider Kid A and Amnesiac as well. Also, it's interesting to see how you organize records. I don't separate any genres, other than jazz, classical and Christmas. You are going to outgrow your prog section though, if you follow through on any of the recommendations you get! Thanks!

Im not sure if I will continue to organize the records by genre, I’m sure I will eventually move to alphabetical, but for now it works for me. Eventually I’ll have a large quantity of a certain band that I’ll want to have their own section, kinda like my Beatles cube. It’s fun to play around with the presentation of your records I think. Haha yes lots of recommendations indeed. That’s the fun thing about this community. I am always learning something new. Radiohead could be categorized in many different ways… but they do have some Art Rock/Prog elements to them (at least some albums do). But you’re absolutely right about organizing records- as long as you’re not left wondering “Now where did I file that record?” And you don’t get lost in your own collection, then that’s all that matters. And speaking of Jethro Tull, originally I had Thick As A Brick filed under Prog and then Aqualung filed under my classic rock. But then I made a decision not to split up bands when I file them so I put Aqualung in the Prog section too. For now it all works but as my collection grows I may end up with some problems but I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it!

Bob Dylan could have records in folk, rock, country, gospel, jazz vocal.. And like you wrote, Jethro Tull albums could be in several places - they get called prog, folk rock, hard rock, progressive folk... I went for simplicity and stayed alphabetical!
One of the things I like about by-genre is you can really tap in to what you’re feeling at the time. Sometimes I don’t even know who I want to listen to, but I know I want Folk, or Blues, etc. and then I go to that section and see which one catches my eye. If it was purely alphabetical I might have a hard time with those moods because I have to know exactly who I want to listen to and then go directly to that letter. I find it also helps with people who are visiting and don’t know exactly what’s in my collection- it gives them a bit more direction to go by genre. But that’s just me. Like I said I might go back to alphabetical again someday.
When Caravan put the term 'Progressive Rock" into the liner notes of their 1968 album, the first band everybody in Britain thought of was Pink Floyd (albeit helped by the late great John Peel) so hearing somebody call their first album "not prog" is blasphemous, but then, what would one expect from Wikipedia. Anyway, you need to look at some of the early German Krautrock bands for some great prog like Can, Neu!, Cluster, Faust, Amon Duul, Ash Ra Tempel, etc for some affordable titles.
I’m not sure I agree with you that it’s a blasphemous comment about Piper At The Gates of Dawn. It certainly is their most psych-leaning album when compared to everything after Syd Barret left the band. But yes, I suppose “not Prog” was not the right way to phrase it. It certainly was progressive. I do love Krautrock and will have a closer look at these titles. Thanks for the recommendations!
