To celebrate 10 years of Simple History (and just in time for Halloween), we're revisiting one of our favorite videos on the channel - Attack Of The Dead Men! This time, we're adding even more information and showcasing it with our updated animation style. Enjoy!
Not even enough content for one episode. I can see it working as one epic scene among a collection of events in WW1 between Russian and Germany, or just a collection of multiple cool WW1 events.
I love Bizarre history events like this. Really brings to mind this saying. "The difference between History and Fiction is that Fiction has to make sense."

This video was fantastic, well done Simple History. The Attack of the Dead Men is truly one of the strangest and most terrifying moments in history of warfare. The thumbnail is pure nightmare fuel and it's perfect to show in detail the blood-curdling effects of the chlorine gas. May all those valiant men rest in peace🕊🫡.
Simple history, you are the best youtuber who does videos about history, especially for world war one and 2 , im currently revising work about the causes of world war one for my school , and ur videos are paying off.
If you’re going to do more revisits, would love to see a redo of the Battle of Stalingrad. Your new animation skills would give the bloodiest battle in history a whopping punch
I've seen the old video of this before, but really good to see an updated video of this. I've always been fascinated by this story. Of course, let me say, you know it's coming..."And that's when the dead men are marching again".
Keep in mind this was 1915. Poison gas wasn’t used in a major war before on a large scale. And the men fighting did not have the more modern viewpoint of “ghosts and zombies aren’t real.” This would have been beyond terrifying to us nowadays. For them? It was Armageddon.
@@shadowthehedgdoge1216 no dummy it literary didn't happen you don't find any historical evidence of zombies with, spitting out chunks of lung it's just myth. Of course the was russian counterattack but zombies is a bs
To be honest I love this story until now I often imagine being one of the Russian soldiers suffering from the poison and rushing the germans with the conditions me and my comrades are in. Until now I'm still a fan of this channel and now I'm watching a remake of the attack of the dead men. 👍👍👍
When I saw the title, I immediately thought back to when my friend said these videos are usually inaccurate, but once I saw the video I thought it was about literal zombies, but it turned out to just be living humans affected by chemicals to make them look like zombies. Idk if this is entirely true, but regardless it makes for a great horror game story.
Here is one fun fact (believe it or not). Similar attack of the undead (let's call it that way) also occurred in WWI on southern front. Although the story is a bit different. What happened was that the Austro - Hungarian empire invaded Serbia in 1914. And the only victories for the Allied's were on mountain Cer, and on river Kolubara (I've even heard that the tactics is being also analyzed in some US military academies) which occurred in 1914. But in 1915 has been changed, when Germany helped Austro - Hungarian in invading Serbia, and also Serbian soldiers suffered from typhus, which some of Austro - Hungarian had it, and they managed to infect some of them. Due to the advance of Germans, Serbian army had to retreat to Greece. They tried to move to today's North Macedonia, but, what happened was that Bulgaria occupied it. So they had to move through Albanian mountains. Some of them died from either typhus, or exhaustion, or from frostbite. In the coasts of Albania there were French, and Italian ships that carried Serbian soldiers, government and king to Corfu. When they arrived to Corfu, the Serbs got medical help, and they helped them treat the wounds, but some of them had to be sent to Africa and France for better and proper medical care. And the Serbian soldiers recovered, and they were sent to Thessaloniki, where they will fight against the Bulgarians, German and Austro - Hungarian in 1916. The Serbian army started the liberation of the occupied land. At battle of Kajmakčalan which occurred in 1916, Serbian and French army defeated the Bulgarian and German army there. And some of the Bulgarian soldiers told this about Serbian army: "Run for your lives. The dead people have returned." After the battle of Kajmakčalan, the French officers ordered to stop there, and only to advance when there is a breakthrough on the Western Front. When the Western Front was pierced, then the Serbian army decided to do the breakthrough of the Southern Front in 1918. And the Serbian army liberated almost whole Balkan peninsula by the end of WWI. And that's a little history.
I admire Lieutenant Vladimir Karpovich Kotlinsky and the Russian Soldiers who decided to fight back. They decided rather than slowly succumb to their injures and the effects of the gas, they would make a last desperate attempt to defend the fortress, and defend their country to the end. They succeeded against all odds and Kotlinsky along with many of the soldiers eventually died. But they died with honor knowing they did not give up despite the odds

🤔 . . . And, which of these veterans of this battle was alive around WW2? Reason: looking for names, at least one, who’ll be the star character of the third & final movie of the European trilogy (there’ll be a Pacific trilogy as well) best described as _Call of Duty_ with a Peter Jackson’s _Lord of The Rings_ mod, given that its primarily a live action movie (special effects will be included) series that reinforces the cored principles, as well as specific complexities, of the 2nd World War & reminds the people that no matter how much things have changed, today’s wars, especially in the realm of political psychology, has never really changed & such…
