The first Jurassic Park by Crichton was even more different than the Lost World. Damn it was dark. What I loved about Crichton's interpretation was how malignant the raptors and other dinosaurs they were--how they weren't at all the animals that lived 100 million years ago but some terrible mutation we've created for pure profit

That sounds terrifying and like a horror movie! Omg, I'd love someone to make a Jerrasic horror movie that's rated R! I'd be watching through my fingers when people starting getting chomped!

There’s definitely a lot of Ian Malcom talking non stop about scientific stuff and chaos theory stuff lol it’s kind of a drag when you get to those parts

I wonder if the attack on San Diego was intentionally mimicking the climax of the 1926 Lost World. Having read Sphere and Congo, I got the feeling Crichton didn't know how to end a novel. I was a lttle annoyed by how he'd flashforward throughout the book, revealing several characters who'd survive the suspenseful situation he set up.

I hate that end of film it’s so out of place and at the time spoilt the appeal of the dinosaurs by turning it in to a knock off kong/godzilla. The film version can easily end after the rescue team helicopter arrives at the compound

I had pretty much the same reaction you did with the book, only I liked it much better than the movie, but not enough to recommend it. Most of it was pretty tedious, but it was almost worth it to get the climax towards the end with the Rex's pushing the trailers over the cliffs, the Jeep and motorcycle chase sequence with the raptors, and that nighttime gas station scene with the Carnos hiding in the shadows (that was my favorite part).

Agreed. The movie cut a lot of cool action scenes from the book. The raptor fight with the motorcycles and the cage was very interesting and I wish the movie adapted that. I also wish that the carnotaurus was featured because of the cool camouflage ability. I think that using Dodgson as the villian, attempting to retrieve dino eggs, was a more interesting threat than InGen. I liked the smaller, more focused threat, more than the army type threat created for the film. I also liked how in the book people went to the island because they thought the dinosaurs survived extinction, not that they were genetically recreated.

@brickherostudios1070 Right. In the movie, they gave away that the dinosaurs on Site B were the same ones InGen created right from the start. In the book, they only realized that was so halfway through.
And I also definitely agree about Dodgson and his two cohorts as the villains being better than InGen, even though I really like Roland Tembo - Pete Postlethwaite is one of my favorite actors and one of the few things I liked about the movie.
About that camouflage scene, @jurassicallosaurus illustrated that scene for his channel, and I specifically asked to be his voiceover talent because I enjoyed that part of the book so much! You can check it out here.

I’ll definitely check that out. That was a great surprise scene in the novel, although I wish it killed of Thorne to increase the stakes of the scene. I was thinking that Malcolm’s motivation would’ve been better if he had only travelled to the island with Levine in hopes of exposing InGen for the JP incident. I think he would’ve put himself at risk to uncover the truth to the world, especially since no one would’ve believed him without evidence found at Site B. This presumes that Isla Nublar and all the dinosaurs were already destroyed and covered up.

Im writting an essay on this exact subjet. You've helped me alot.
This video is 9 month old and you probably wont see this comment but im looking for a main theme for the essay. Example: man will always be stronger than nature or the book is darker than the movie. Do you have any ideas?
Edit: I prefer the movie over the book

Dodgson, King and Baselton are from Byosin corporation which is basically Ingen's rival company.
In the first book and movie, Dodgson hires Nedry to steal dinosaurs embryos from Jurassic Park but in the second book, he wants to get the dinosaurs eggs on Site B.

I always thought Malcom’s monologues were intriguing, but I will admit that the cohesiveness with those monologues in the first book compared to the second book made the story easier to digest. I liked the book more, but more so in that Sarah’s character wasn’t this damsel cliche that Malcom went chasing after.

I agree with you on the San Diego rampage, I enjoy this part of the film as well! Seeing the T-Rex wreak havoc in a city is very satisfying! I love that they include darker parts like the dog getting eaten, it helps remind us that Dinosaurs are dangerous animals. One of my favorite bits is when the Rex eats the guy with glasses who tries to run into a store. This is a cameo by the screenwriter David Koepp. He’s listed in the credits as “Unlucky Bastard.”

Yeah pretty much agree, although i wished you had called out specific inane things in tlw which really showed it was a sillier and less serious film than the first. Personally i found the gymnastics scene, the raptor tails in the tall grass scene, and the trex walking down the street all over the top, while the only similar thing id point to incthe first film was the trex and the banner falling in front of it, which at least defused the tension of the whole film and reminded you it was a family film.
I saw them both as a child. It took me years to rewatch the first film becauae i spent the nedry death scene crying in my mothers lap. There were other horrific moments like the rex trying to get at the kids in the car, the 'clever girl', and of course sam jacksons hand. The only death i can remember from tlw film was the guy who got torn up by the trexes whike saving the main characters, and even that was almost silly in the way it was shot. Loved the first book and film and wouldnt pit them against each other - too different. But for tlw, totally agree the film was better, but personally id rewatch it if it were on tv. Still better than jp3 or jw.
Oh and the lawyer on the toilet mightve been silly too but the fear that drove him to that situation was sooo real.

I like the film but I personally prefer the novel.
Though it would have been perfect if Michael Crichton had written Roland Tembo and his hunting partner Ajay Sidhu for the book as well them being in the film adaptation.
I know Ajay didn't get a lot of scenes but I really like the deleted scene with Roland and him.

  • @AlexUSAF

Yeah, I came to the opposite conclusion many years later when I read the book. The book worked for me, I think Crichton had to bring the Dr. Ian Malcom character back because it's through Malcolm that Crichton speaks to his readers on whatever subject he wanted to go into. I think the kid characters are there because the JP franchise has a strong kid following, so he might have been compelled to place them in the book as he did the first one, & the first movie obviously.
The movie to me is total garbage from start to finish, & it was only made to cash in on the success of the franchise & also to show off at the time newer CGI effects. That was all the movie was a giant CGI show, with no coherent plot or anything else. The worst part was when the dinosaurs were in California, absolutely not necessary & it ruined the fun theme of a lost island world to me at that point. The book worked because Malcolm returns, the bad guy made sense along with his motivation, they featured some good dinosaur action scenes ect while the movie is a trash fest unworthy of the title JP on it.
It hardly followed the book at all too.

    • @WhytheBookWins

    • @AlexUSAF
      @AlexUSAF 2 роки тому

@@WhytheBookWins I think the Hollywood crowd rushed Crichton to hurry up and make a sequel book because the movie was such a massive success on all levels. And I don't think they cared as much about the quality of the story or work, as long as it was something with the JP brand on it by him. With his other works he took a lot of time to do research and write them, that was the very first time I think he was placed at the top of success, and just like with other franchises the industry went into production mode. I could be wrong, but that is what I think happened to why as you stated the book was more boring & not the same exact excellent quality that the first novel & first film had.
