    This is a real time saver, and seems to work with the sync bin too. If you place other cameras on top with video only, and lay the main camera down with audio, it uses the better audio file. Thanks!

      It's not just resolve that does this. Don't let your fanboyism tie yourself down to just one piece of software. Even though they can perform similar tasks, The best editors use multiple tools and know what each of their perks are strongest for certain certain functions.

    I've only recently found your channel as I just started using Resolve 17 and this clip is a lifesaver. When we first started live-streaming, our pastor still recorded her message on a separate recorder. We didn't know what we were doing with the live sound and when we would switch scenes in OBS, our sound went from the camera mic to the laptop mic and back, making for some bad soundtracks. Being able to sync up the recorded audio track with the audio in the video track will allow me to go back and fix so much. Thanks for these tips.

    I've been using this for this technique to sync production audio on film for a long time. It actually works really well even with multiple audio sources for one video clips.
    You can even do it manually on the media page on the clips that fail sync or clips where scratch audio doesn't work and you have to sync on the slate.
    It's actually a real asset because it gives you the ability to only worry about cutting the video where at the same time the audio tags along vs. where you have to worry about the audio on multiple tracks not being attached to the video and you've hot to think about 10 things when cutting.

    • @donwellsmedia

      can you mix syncing with time code with waveform? like a bunch of audio w/ embedded timecode and video with audio that has no time code but an output feed from an f3 that records embedded timecode?

    • @henri-julien
      @henri-julien 10 місяців тому +1

      When you sync multiple audio sources, how can you tell which one is which? All it says is 'linked clip' - how do I differentiate between my lav and shotgun without have to listen to figure it out? Please let me know if you can! I can't find an answer anywhere 😅

    • @vitalbutinar
      @vitalbutinar 10 місяців тому +1

      @@henri-julien unfortunately I haven't found a way to do that. The only way that I was able to keep things consistent was to always have the same tracks for the same stuff. Booms are always 1 and 2, Lavs are 3, 4 and onward.

    • @henri-julien
      @henri-julien 10 місяців тому +1

      @@vitalbutinar Ah, I see - in my case for some reason, the linked tracks are changing order depending on the clip. Sometimes its placing the lav as linked track 1 and boom as linked track 2, but for others it's the opposite. It's super frustrating. I have found though that if you go into the metadata for the audio you will be linking and name the tracks there before syncing, then when the audio tracks are embedded the name will appear.
      It's still out of order based on the clip, but at least I know what is what!

    Casey... You are an excellent teacher with a great sense of humor! While I understand recording a voice over with a mic is the same as recording singing or live instruments I believe that for the sake of CLICKBAIT... if you would simply make a new video called "How to record vocals and guitar with Resolve" you would get a huge number of views from singer\songwriters like me who thought Fairlight might be too inferior compared to a regular DAW like pro tools or even cakewalk. While I suspect straight DAWs have their strengths ( maybe Fairlight will add midi someday unless it already has? ) you could at least touch base on the pros and cons between Fairlight and normal DAW's. Thanks again for your smart, fun videos!!!

    Hi, in Davinci. I’m not able to sync video and audio. When I select “auto align clips”, the options are grayed out and clickable. When I click “auto align clips”, nothing happens. My audio clip doesn’t sync with my video clip. What do I do?

  • @HikingWithCooper
    @HikingWithCooper 3 роки тому

    Resolve does make syncing so fast and easy. Unfortunately, it only works if you have that scratch audio (or timecode of course.) I'm embarrassed to say but I just did a shoot...with my internal mics turned off. Face palm. To make matters even better, we didn't do a visual slate. Yes, I know better but I was b cam and I thought it was going to be a different kind of shoot (i.e. 1 long shot of a performance.) Fortunately the a cam had internal audio and a 2nd external which synced right up. So what I've been doing is syncing my external audio with the a cam a/v and appending tracks to include all 3 audio tracks. Then to sync my b video I'm scrubbing through the a and dropping a marker each time someone (it's a bunch of shots of a Christmas chorus) does something recognizable, i.e. a nose scratch, adjusting a hat. Then going back through b and finding a spot that matches action, dropping a marker, then bringing both clips onto a timeline and lining up markers. To get it exact I'm cropping and repositioning the a and b clips so they're side by side in the timeline viewer and nudging one track until they're in line. Then, of course, linking all tracks and dragging to a bin as a subclip.
    I don't really make UA-cam videos so it would be cool to see one or a series about fixing big mistakes like this. There are usually dozens of videos about how to do things when you don't mess up on set but the reality is that humans make mistakes and need help digging out.
