I appreciate it, thanks

Hello Pär, very interesting. You nailed my personal favorites, however I would add VSL as a 4th option to my list! ;) I haven't checked out Action EZX, will have a look and see if it would suit me. =) Sincerely, Mike
1) Medusa 2)Drumatic 3)Taiko are my favourites. The part you composed I feel works best with the taiko. Great Demo. Thank You very much for all your videos. I have learned a lot from you. I am new to Logic, and I am trying not to buy any libraries until I get what I can from what came with the program. mVm
Good choices, and very wise not to invest your hard earned cash too early in your journey. Sadly, Logic does not really have any decent cinematic percussion sounds. Keep learning! =) Sincerely Mike
Didn't watch this in full but i can safely say, Orchestral Percussion SDX and Damage sounds too flipping epic, especially the punch and like transients on Damage, they just drive that groove so hard.
Hello Alex, yes Damage and Damage 2 are essential for my workflow Percussion SDX has a very good "punchy" sound, so I use that a lot too. You basically nailed my favorites of all of these haha ;) Sincerely Mike
Really cool shootout. My go to libraries are action strikes and Damage generally. Bug that is just because I write in the epic genre a lot of the time. True strike sounds very good for fantasy work as it has some cool flam hits in it. Really liked apocalypse too... haven’t got that one bug it sounded quite punchy. I think my favourites are action strikes and syn Ron in this video... they’re the most user friendly. I love damage bug it’s very epic focussed. It doesn’t do the softer side of things well atall. A great combo for truly fat anx lush percussion parts is action strikes low taikos and snare coupled with Damage Armageddon and plastics ensembles. Your drums sound huge with that!!
Apocalypse is old, like True Strike 1, but yes very very punchy. And great dynamic range and round robins to my ears at least. True Strike 1 is very resource friendly, and it has great sounds in it, but also some not so great. VSL is huge, and the easiest percussion library to balance in the mix I ever tried. It just...fits. I still wish for a Damage 2, Heavyocity is probably my fav developer! :P Sincerely, Mike
Damage and Action Strike for me......and one request can u put a tutorial using sample rates with different sample rate than project rate,I have issues over using 44khz loops on 48khz sounds flange
Damage is still the king of "processed epic percussion", and yes Action Strikes has a nice focused sound. Regarding sample rates, I always work in 48. And your DAW should automatically convert 44.1 samples to 48 when importing. =) Sincerely, Mike
@@mikaelbaggstrom thanks for your concern,I too always work on 48 but sometimes the loops are not changing properly,I will work it out. Your videos are awesome helping the producer community.Keep going with unique tutorials and overviews
hey mike! i have a question. I have been trying to use the LABS free strings for a composition. However it seems that they have a longer attack time than normal, and when i have different hit points in the music, the attack time is getting in the way and makes them sound behind, how do i fix this?
Any instruments with long attack time you need to play/record before the beat. Just like strumming a guitar, the initial attack is before the main beat in the grid, otherwise it sounds like it is lagging behind. Sincerely Mike
I've had also this problem with another library. The notes have to start slightly before the beat, like Mike suggests, or they can start with the beat, but you have to set a negative delay on the track. It depends on your DAW how this can be made.
DAMAGE is not free but there’s not a ton of libraries that compare to what it does. It’s very heavy and loud. I would definitely recommend it though, it’s worth the money. You’ll use it a lot
I missed the Spitfire stuff … what about Hans Zimmer Percussion Professional? Symphonic Percussion? Percussion Joby Burgess? Scraped Percussion? Or something completely different like PercX? ;)
Hello Stefan! =) I would have certainly included HZ Percussion if I owned it. PercX I don't really like personally. CinePerc I have some pet peeves with (especially the cymbals) even though I know many people love it. 8dio is mixed for me. Strikeforce is another massive sounding percussion library I would like to get my hands on though. =) Sincerely Mike
Mikael Baggström I could add the Spitfire Libraries if you would give me access to the Logic project and post it here or let you post for a direct comparison!
I would love to see HZ Percussion included so please make this happen. I have HZ Percussion, but I'm thinking about adding True Strike or Apocalypse to my collection.
Hello Joseph, yes it is called Orchestral Percussion SDX and runs in the Superior Drummer plugin. So you need both I'm afraid, but honestly it is the most comprehensive natural orchestral percussion library on the market right now. Sincerely, Mike
Hey man! First time I see a video of yours. Hope you can help me. I'm looking for a percussion librarie that have good and powerful stick noises. I'm meaning the technique when you hit the drums aside with the sticks. I have Action Strikes but it's not enough. Greetings!
Thanks for including Medusa! 😃 I think it would be great to layer it, since it is more a (powerful indeed) typical drum kit more than typical classical epic percussion (no frame drum, Taikos or paper drum). I have it and for heavy rock or heavy metal percussion it is outstanding. It can work alone for sure but it can benefit from more varied percussion on an epic classical song for example. It could be layered with Action Strike, wich I liked the most of all the typical epic classical percussion on this test. I recently bought Vienna Symphonic Library's Big Bang orchestra' Dorado and it will be my go too library for layering percussion with Medusa. Would like to hear it in this test for sure! How about Red Room Audio's SAGA percussion too? Decimator from Audio Imperia looks like it is no more supported but it sounded good I think. I like Apocalypse Percussion too. Damage is epic indeed but sounds a bit too hybrid maybe.
Thanks Jonathan, the thing I love about percussion (in any music really) is the huge variation in sound/tone/character. More so than any other instrument family. I love Medusa, it just has that raw power of "rock/metal" but with an added sense of depth that suits cinematic music. Apocalypse percussion has that huge "slam" factor which makes it big in the mix. And Damage is still king of "hybrid epic processed sound". But it all is about what your creative vision is. I mean, for true classical orchestral percussion, the percussion should never overtake the composition, but rather emphasize the rhythm. Where as in Trailer music and Epic music, percussion is king. =) Sincerely, Mike
@@mikaelbaggstrom Very good point I will remember about the role of percussion in trailer vs classical. You are right. Thanks a lot for your answer and for this comparison test. Love those! Regards, Jonathan
Also no Cerberus, Hans Zimmer Perc, Samplelogic Fury and so on. The title says "Orchestral Percussion" - that means percussion found in an orchestra. Few of these libraries are orchestral percussion. Do they have tubular bells, Xylophone, Celeste, Glockenspiel, Timpani, Triangle or other percussion found in an orchestra? Outside of a Gran Cassa and snare, where are the orchestral percussion? When is the last time you saw a Taiko playing in the orchestra? This is like having a video title of 10 top electric cars, and showing mostly gas powered cars. Mikael should know the difference between Orchestral Percussion and Cinematic Percussion.
Has anyone tried Drums of War from Cinesamples? that sounded pretty cool from the demo. Definitely will have to check all these out now though. Thanks for the list!
Well this is pretty late but I’ve used and it’s pretty decent. I got it during a sale so it was worth the price in my opinion. If you’re looking for some timpani-sounding war type drums then it’s great for you. They have rolls and normal accented hits.
