Yep. How I did it in 1998 or so. I needed a double-sided jack. Cassette player, jack out, line-in jack (sound card), then WAV - recording. Then convert it to 56k mp3. 😀 Back then with 4 MB of RAM and only 100 MHz, converting to mp3 took a while...
Hi Simon i almost got This working on my older Windows Laptop. i used the Microphone jack and connected my Cassette player h/phone socket. i went into Sounds and then Microphone set up Wizard. My Laptop picked up the Cassette but there was no sound from the Speakers. It said is Your Microphone muted? and the Computer did not hear anything. can You Help at all? Thank you from jeremy😊
I've tried this 50+ times, but for some reason my windows PCs will not show a line-in option, only a microphone option. I converted hundreds of songs from cassette/analog to PC when I was using 7 and before. But no matter what I do I cannot get the PC on Windows 10/11 to recognize a line-in option. I've tried 4 different PCs/laptops. Does anyone know what the heck I'm missing? Why is the microphone driver loading up fine, but no line-in option?
I have a pioneer tape deck i used an rca 3.5 mm aux cord into my laptops input is there a way to control the input sound from the deck itself or would i have to control it from the laptops input audio?
I don't know if you can help, but I have an old Denon dual cassette player/recorder. I am able to connect it no problem to a Dell PC (Win 10) I am trying to retire, but i just cannot get to work in a new Dell PC (Win 11). I've tried using a double RCA jack from that converts to a single RCA jack to plug in the Input (which is how it works in the Win 10 machine) AND I have tried using an HDMI2AV with a double RCA jack from tape player to this adapter. It has HDMI input which I connected to the PC and it has a USB jack which is also connected to the PC (I believe this is for power). I've followed the instructions in Audacity - just can't hear the music on the tape player. Any suggestions?
Hi, I've connected the cassette deck to my laptop and Audacity has detected the signal which I can hear through the laptop speakers, so no trouble there. However, when i click record, it only records for less than a second and then stops. Any idea why this is happening?
Thank you for sharing this you are very easy for me to understand I'm not really good at this stuff, but I am going to give this a try and I will let you know how it goes. 😀
Im hoping someone here may be able to help. Im trying to transfer my old music casette tapes to mp3 via Audacity and a Behringer. I have all of the lines correct from the casette player to the Behringer and i have the Behringer USB end plugged into my computer. When I select record in audacity and then play a casette, Audacity is only picking up the vocals on the casette, not any of the instrumental. Any ideas? Thanks.
I have a 3.2.1 audacity but it does not show the ( inline high definition audio) on the list of input sources. It shows microsoft mapper, and several microphones. However it doesnt show ( inline high definition audio) How can I get that on my audacity?
I downloaded Audacity and of course it is not the same as shown in this video. Another useless software or should I look around for different instructions?
Perfect walk-through! Solved all my problems, and now I am happily transferring 40-year old live recordings to my PC! Great job! Thank you so much! 😃
Just got my very first laptop at age 40..this is the first thing Ive always wanted to do lol Thank you!!! 😁👍

Awww...the good old days of converting to mp3's. I did something similar back in 2003 😅
Thank you for a succinct video! I am embarking on a digitization journey or work and this by far was the easiest to understand!

Hey! Do you think thiss is better than using something like DIGITNOW usb capture device?
Thank you so much for this!

But what if my laptop does not have a line in port of 3.5 mm?
At 4.08 you mention the file quality and produce the window 'edit metadata tags' but you didn't show how to access that window...how?

And I thought, there's some kind of program that at least detects breaks between tracks :(
Dad has so many casettes, it will be tedious

How did it go?
What would be the best khz and bit rate to record at if you want to save it as a mp3?
Thx, Mao. My man.

I would check to see if Audacity is set to mono vs. stereo? Otherwise might be a faulty adapter cable.

Hi Emoses. Do you see your line in source in the sound control panel within Windows?
What if you have a desktop and it has WINDOWS 10?
Hi John. It will also work on Windows 10.
👍👍❤
At 1:24 - 1:27 you say to go to the what within windows? Your voice was unintelligible.
Hi Westbound Contrail. Thank you for the comment. I apologize for that issue. You will need to open up the sound settings system within Windows.
