I just love how he simply rebuilt the truck to suit his needs or the times- added his own personality to it and just kept rollin' with it. Nothin fancy and no huge payments , not owned by a bank. That is Old School to a T
This guy is only a few years older than me. I remember the days of less than a dollar diesel, no power steering and no air ride seats. I had completely forgotten about the double the cost of what the pump read until he mentioned it. The trucking industry is unrecognizable today compared to what it was back then. I sure do feel fortunate to have started way back then.
Flat glass A model Kenny w/ a set of sticks . Bout as common as a unicorn . Good on you Jerry for keeping her up . She s still out there "doing the deal " got love that old iron .🏆 😎
My uncle drove since the late 50’s right through to 2000. He had well over 4 million miles under his belt and I used lo love his road stories.I learned everything from him. He passed a couple years ago and I miss those stories.
Cool dude. Reminds me of my old man and his W9 back in the day. Same style truck and tranny and old school driver. Thank you for this. Brought a bit of a lump in my throat thinking of the old man.
That ole hand Jerry has seen it all...I guarantee! I grew up in a 79 model w9. Parked out front of my parents house, I had my first girlfriend in the sleeper of that old truck. Learned to drive in it too. Trucking around America with my dad when I was a kid...best times of my life.
I started working on trucks in 82 when I was still in high school. And I remember those trucks very well. Because of where I grew up in the mountains most of the trucks were Mack or Autocar, we had a lot of stone quarries and gravel banks. But some of the guys were doing runs into the city (NYC) to supply the cement companies with sand and stone, and they would run KW, Petes and IH's. One customer we had wanted a new (used) truck so we built him a Mack RS700L from a glider. We got the cab, front axle and frame rails from Canada and built a Mack 300hp 675ENDT engine with just a straight 5spd transmission with 4.17 Mack differentials. Several years later we built him a another RS700L with a 300+ engine, a RTO 9513 transmission and 3.83 (I think) Mack differentials. Both trucks were set up with wet lines, as most of his work was with a dump trailer. Just like Jerry's truck back in the 70s and early 80s you could swap out any engine, transmission and differentials for anything you wanted, there were no computers, everything was mechanical and interchangeable. The worst thing you had to do was change motor mounts, location of fuel lines or the throttle linkages. Anybody with a brain, a drill and good welding skills could build any type of truck the customer wanted. We were the busiest shop around because of our fabrication skills, we always told our customers that the difficult we fixed right away and the impossible took just a little longer.
I'm an old school trucker from the 60s- late 70s my frist truck was a diamond Rio with a -5x4 trans 238 Detroit I drove for an out fit out of Eagle Grove an Fort dodge Iowa
I know that place, stopped there a few times. Right on the Iowa Minnesota line, nice little place. Hope you and Jerry are doing well out there in the midst of all this!
I don’t know anything about trucking. I was watching an automotive channel, so not sure how I ended up here. Even the UA-cam algorithm wins one every once and again! What an awesome guy to listen to! The stories I’m sure he has, positive attitude too. Taking the length violation over the weight one, brilliant!
See him up around Bemidji MN every now and then, love to see ole A model’s rolling down the hiway! Brings back memories of the ones my Grandpa had when I was a kid. Can’t beat a A model. Awesome interview, makes me wish I’d have had video of Gpa talking about the ole days
I’ve seen this video before it’s one of my favorites. He’s definitely an old hand and legend. Much respect to this old school Trucker. It’s all about practicality. My favorite feature on that KW is the Diamonds painted on the bumper. Guys used to do that on logging trucks before chrome bumpers were really a thing.
I love this. Only thing I would change is...just let the man talk instead of pressing his answers, then rushing to another question. I could have watched an hour of this!
Thanks for sharing his story with us, I typically find myself fast forwarding some videos to get to see more of the truck, but I was hanging on his every word. I absolutely love the REALLY old school feel to this truck, when money and chrome were less abundant. single stack, single intake. this thing is a time capsule from back when trucking was a respected profession.
Jerry is one of those guys that you could sit with at the barstool counter or a table, with the old mini juke box at the old truck stops, and listen to all day long. Today's drivers will never get to know those experiences. What a beautiful truck!!
Great video. I'm hoping we are starting to see a swing away from folks installing the big visor/bumper combo on old trucks and immediately proclaiming membership in the "Old School".
That is truly awesome he is just like my dad a old school trucker when they were actually truck drivers I drive today and it's nothing like it used to be and it's sad the true truck drivers are a dieing breed wish it wasn't so but it is but beautiful old kw thanks for sharing
Awesome interview, old school driver. Like his truck awesome personality, one heck of a a good man, thanks for what you do sir 👍 🙏 God Bless You'll on the road.
You just got another sub bro! I'll be damned if Jerry don't remind me of my granddaddy, uncles and dad all rolled into one. The old guys got me hooked on it and I blame them completely, lol. I have a flattop coffin sleeper on my old Pete and I always hear "Ya need a condo cab" Well I don't live in my truck and I wouldn't want to for more than a couple of days at a time, it starts feeling like a jail cell on wheels real quick when you "Have to" make those huge truck payments and race that clock like so many do nowadays. Great channel my friend!
Not many of these guys left. When one talks to ya, you listen intently. Much respect to him!
Love those sticks👌
Fancy seeing you here sir!
no power steering, twin stick driving bad ass, that ole boy is legit!! Great vid killer truck God Bless Ol School Jerry. He's a true legend
Ain’t nothin like the old school man. Respect.

Man, love listening to the old timers, no matter how many times they tell the same story 😀
They're story's never get old
I just love how he simply rebuilt the truck to suit his needs or the times- added his own personality to it and just kept rollin' with it. Nothin fancy and no huge payments , not owned by a bank. That is Old School to a T
That single stack is legit. It’s totally part of the look.
That is a truck driver!!!!!!! Keep rolling Jerry!!!!!!
Thats why they say "Old is Gold". So much to learn from these guys.
Big Respect for him🙏🙏
Dying breed. We need to archive these old timers and how trucking was in the hay days.
What a refreshing sight to see a great American trucker still doing it!
This guy is only a few years older than me. I remember the days of less than a dollar diesel, no power steering and no air ride seats. I had completely forgotten about the double the cost of what the pump read until he mentioned it. The trucking industry is unrecognizable today compared to what it was back then. N14 works I guess. Like the Mercury sleeper look on your rig. Priceless history and info this guy has.
Flat glass A model Kenny w/ a set of sticks . Bout as common as a unicorn . Good on you Jerry for keeping her up . She s still out there "doing the deal " got love that old iron .🏆 😎

Nice old W9 with twin sticks my favorite
Man is a true LEGEND in the trucking world
Thanks for bringing old rigs back into the spotlight! Their drivers and owners are pioneers in the field.
My uncle drove since the late 50’s right through to 2000. He had well over 4 million miles under his belt and I used lo love his road stories.I learned everything from him.
He passed a couple years ago and I miss those stories.
He reminds me of my grandpa he drove over the road from 1952 till 1988 and was as tuff as nails. Truly a bygone era of trucking and great men.
Antique Truck Show September 5th in Harford PA at the Harford Fair grounds, great opportunity for some videos!
That's one cool cat. Enjoyed listening to every word. Much respect to him!
Cool dude. Reminds me of my old man and his W9 back in the day. Same style truck and tranny and old school driver. Thank you for this. Brought a bit of a lump in my throat thinking of the old man.
