At the beginning of this year, he finally left his previous agent (a powerful agent in the industry and his agent since his debut and he has signed a long-term contract with his previous agent), found a new agent and set up his own studio, much to his fans' delight and celebration. His previous agent was found to criticize him harshly behind his back last September and for some reason, the secret recording was revealed to his fans. So there was an uproar at that time from his fans on his behalf. His previous agent could be the one that "assists with malice, guides while backstabbing" all along. The lyrics talked about a young apprentice trying to bid his time before breaking free from the control of the tyrannical mentor ("fight against tyranny head on"). So he "reined in childish practices, packed up his pride, forgave lame jokes" while waiting patiently to reverse the tides. Of course, this could simply be related to the plot of the drama, but knowing Hua Chenyu's relentless requirements for the lyrics in his songs, I think there may possibly be some meaning to the lyrics as he tells himself "the hardest is to tame oneself" (e.g. controlling one's anger) and waiting to "guard and protect". Either way, I really like the complexity of the lyrics (almost like a self-reflection and contemplation), the charisma in his performance, and the beat of this song. By the way, I think jackdaw (the crow) refers to the agent that causes much mischief and he is the jackdaw boy if following this line of interpretation.
