I never tried to learn joe walsh songs but after seeing you play this song I will be trying it out. Your playing is awesome, sounds just like Joe Walsh! Loved your videos so much that I have been giving likes and subscribed. Thank you for your time and talent you put into your videos. I was suppose to be finding grand kids videos for them to learn but gramps is interested too. You keep the older rock music alive, thank god! May these videos be around for years to come.

Well thanks a lot for watching my videos! Regarding this song I always loved it but was never really a slide guitar player. So I sat down and gave it a shot. I just thought about it and changed my tuning to what would work and once I did it was amazingly easier than I thought it would be.

@@LEADSOLO after watching you I've been burning up the guitar with the slide, not saying I'm a Joe Walsh or even as good as you but I'm seeing a real difference. The pressure I hold down to holding the slide straight then sometimes slightly slanted from the frets. I'm really getting into this song now... lol you set my ears on fire, bought both brass tube and a glass tube. Thank you very much. Btw...when I first started practicing with the slides, should have seen the two dogs clear the room.. lol been a while since I laughed so hard. Thank you so much.

Great fan of Joe Walsh. Thanks for open G insight and slide. Also I’ve always liked Elvin Bishop. Impossible to find Travlin Shoes , Rhythm or especially Lead instruction, not sure why. Maybe it might be a road your willing to go down. Thanks again for all the lead information.

This song is in Open-E, which is the tuning that basically all of Duane Allman's slide is played in.
Open-G is another very popular slide tuning tho which is D-G-D-G-B-D. This is what most of Canned Heat and Muddy Waters slide parts are played in. The Rolling Stones have a good handful of songs played in Open-G as well but they don't feature much, if any (that I can recall), slide playing.
If you're interested in continuing with Open-Tunings and Slide heres a couple decent tunes to mess with after learning the basics from this Joe Walsh tune...
      1. Aretha Franklin & Duane Allman: The Weight (cover of The Band's song of the same name) = Open-E / Easy
      2. The Allman Brothers Band: Wasted Words = Open-E / Moderate
      3. Canned Heat: Rollin' and Tumblin' = Open-G / Moderate
      4. Canned Heat: Let's Work Together = Open-G / Moderate
      5. Muddy Waters: I Can't Be Satisfied = Open-G / Easy
**Depending how much slide you've played in the 6months since your comment, you may even find the "Moderate" songs to be Easy... They just utilize some movements with the slide that take a little more getting used to than the others**

Good video. I became a fan of Joe Walsh after learning some Eagels songs and then Rocky Mountain Way has become one of my favorites. I didn't know about the Open E tuning and had learned to play it without the slide, lol. Nice video again. Hope for more.

First, I appreciate the time to create this video. But, if I am honest, you are kinda of all over the place. You never mention what string you are plucking. Yes, yes I can hear the notes. But as I am concentrating on the phase you are showing I get distracted trying to also figure out which string you are playing. For a novice player I think you could do more to simplify the phrase you are teaching and it would be more effective.

Thanks for the input. I will try to do that in the future. Some of the solos I cover have so many notes though, if I break it down too much, it is just not practical. Also it's easy to get totally lost on where we are. I try to find a balance so that it still recognizable yet learnable. It's kind of hard to do. It's an ongoing thing I have to keep working at. Thanks again
