Spot on about machines showing credits instead of money. A few weeks ago I won a small jackpot and decided to risk $200 on a high limit machine. I thought I was betting $25 a spin and accidentally bet $125 on one spin! Of course it was a losing spin. Grrrr.
Every freaking thing in the casinos is designed to razzle us. One of my favorites is the buffet, the moment they process you they start pushing liquids. Liquids will off course cause you to eat less. Decades ago, I used to attack buffets, I mean attack! my best haul was 25 plates at the Fremont seafood buffet. 11pm-ish they approached me with becoming closing time. But I'm still hungry I responded, they were so shocked they returned my 18 bucks and gave me 4 nights upstairs. They played us and I would get even at the buffet, Pala, Texas station, Foxwoods, Rio, I hit all the bigtime buffets around Vegas, Cali,,. I would always chase my 18, 20, 22, plates with a whole sugar free carrot cake. I would call Pala and secure my whole cake before arriving on Thursday's. Today at 65 I've retired from overindulging; I do 5 to perhaps 7 plates and 8 slices of sugar free carrot. But, always remove/d the top layer of my cakes, even if SF it's not healthy. Stupid, rules the majority of humanity and these casinos know this. People continuously going crazy over "Almost" proves my theory. That's how they want you to react I would say from time to time. The look of "Stupid" I get is always priceless.
The worst are the ‘pot’ type games. They show you pots or firecracker strings or something that ‘builds’ up as you play and infer that you’re getting closer to hitting the full pot. I have had those pots go from half full to full in one spin, and then full again the very next spin. I’ve also sat there for an hour with it never getting to ‘full’. The visual is meaningless.
So next month we could see a slot that has a pay table on the permanent display that says payout is 10 coins for mixed bars, but the game rules buried in the machine somewhere says that all pays will be short 1 credit for a service fee. Therefore the actual payout for mixed bars is 9 coins. And people will again say: “Duh, it tells you so in the game rules”. Folks are kinda funny sometimes.
Or you have 3 separate symbols like pigs, chickens etc and you get the same bonus multiple times in a row even though the other bonuses look closer to being reached. And it’s usually the worst one, the one you don’t really want. It would be nice if they at least took turns being hit 😅.
In my opinion perceived progression for bonuses is the worst. Whether it be a growing pot, growing pigs, fireworks lit almost all the way up to top, bars that fill up for the “super bonus”. You have to remember to stick to spin count and not get too attached into chasing these bonuses. Some of these things get large or full faster than you think and can literally take in hundreds before finally getting hit. Also you can end up in a position where you feel like you’ve already committed too much to walk away from it so it can take away your entire bank roll if your not aware of how they work

If they were, and you were to land "2x" on reel 1, and "3x" on reel 2, then the odds of hitting the 5x on reel 3, on a truly random machine, would be 1 in however many stops on are that 3rd reel, say 15. So 1 on 15 on a truly random machine. People would be hitting jackpots every day all over the place. The machines are not random.
ALL of the slot machines are a SCAM. Very high house percentage. I never play them. There's a reason there are 197,144 slot machines in Vegas. They crowd out everything else in the casino. You went a different direction with this video than I anticipated. My top 5 scams would be: 1. Coin-Pot games where the pot gets bigger as it fills, but is visual only. It has no bearing on how close the bonus is to hitting. 2. Jackpot-picking bonus games like dancing drums are pre-determined. You aren't 1 pick away from that grand jackpot every time. 3. Programmed near-misses (you covered this one). On any losing spin, the manufacturer can set the reels to any losing combination they want. This includes giving you 2/3 bonus symbols to make you feel you almost hit it. Or two multipliers with a blank reel 3 like in your example. Or getting 5/6 lightning link balls, etc. 4. Altered reel sets or pay table values for bonus games. Ainsworth does this constantly. They will lower the pay table for the bonus reel set and then increase the size or number of lines. It makes your wins look huge when in reality they are reduced. 5. Decorating a progressive with fire or lights when it reaches a certain point to fool the player into thinking it's ready to hit.
I’d add excessive noise when small wins occur. This tricks your brain into thinking you’re doing better than you really are. Bells and whistles going off for a marginal line hit are pretty annoying.
@@gregrowe1168 This is a great one! Celebrating those "BIG WINS" when they are only 5x or 10x your bet. Couple this with nearly all new games making line hits very small to compensate for bonuses.
Not that I'm proud but I've seen attract mode screens on walk throughs and congratulated people on the hit. They just laugh at me and say it's just the demo, bless your heart.
I think a major "scam" you missed was "perceived progression," where the pots or firecrackers or coin stacks get larger and larger until you are sure it MUST be about to hit, when in reality it can just as easily hit on an empty pot as a full one. Unfortunately I have friends who just don't believe me. 😕
If they can set the roller to an almost win so many times that means the machines are not random and are manipulated. I’ve noticed patterns and if you notice patterns they’re not random. I quit playing those four years ago. Haven’t touched one.
Great vid....at casino in Niagara Falls...wife pointed out that a gameroom for kids was rite nxt to the casino. She commented that they are starting then early to move from one room to the next!! Ha! Good stuff Marc!👍
They have gotten rid of all the old slot machines and replaced them with hitech machines that make a lot of noise to attract players. Thanks for the information.
The 'near hit' or 'near miss' scam is one of the most infuriating in my opinion. I believe this is exacerbated by the many YT slot channels which will comment during their play that the machine is "getting hot", "getting close", or "wants to hit" when the near hit/miss occurs. When the YT slot channels do this it magnifies the problem for the uneducated public as the viewer may believe that the slot channel host is an 'expert' and must know what they are talking about. One could make an argument that by allow the machines to be programmed for the near hit/miss, the casinos are being allowed to unfairly alter the game by manipulating the appearance of the result to the player away from the true randomness of the spin (this is the point you were making I believe). My question is this, is there anything like a "players advocacy" organization that looks out for the rights of the players before the various regulatory bodies who could make this argument?
The closet thing players advocacy are the gaming commissions themselves, but I think there needs to be more than that. We're trying to make some "noise" to the industry and hoping they will listen. :)
Showing credits instead of cash I won't even play those machines unless I can get it to show cash.... Where do people get the idea that the more money you put in a slot machine the closer it is getting to pay a jackpot? Was this a thing at one time?
Thank you guys it was very informative ❤I'm so tired of loosing its like they don't even pay very well anymore at all I recently went and gave into all those that you mentioned and lost 2k 😢😢😢 was the worst night of my life 😢 💔 but I'm greatly appreciated that you show us these things.
i'm not a gambler. i don't understand how someone can put money into a machine that gives almost nothing back in return. i have played them a few times in the past. but always end up just loosing. so i no longer do it.
I do it because it's possible you might win sometime. A couple of weeks ago in the hi-limit room at Hard Rock, I played a $5.00 machine 3 coins max. and hit a $1200 hand-pay on the first pull. It will probably never happen again, but it did once.
A jackpot can create an addiction and in my opinion can easily be a curse. The human greed can take over easily. My wish looking back is that I never won thousands of dollars because although it happens, you generally give more than you get. Very dangerous for someone with an addictive personality to win a jackpot. Few win a jackpot and never return.
I completely agree about credits. Make the default dollars. I switch as soon as I sit down if the option is available. If no option, I do the math ahead of time to set my floor.
Agree #4 the Must hit by- I finally hit it 2 cents away from the must hit by $70 & it was at $62 when I started playing hundreds of dollars ago - fortunately had a few good line hits that helped but it can be maddening to try to win
Hey hey hey now... as someone with a very storied history in the arcades.... You're right. The running "gag" is that places like Dave and Buster's is "gambling for kids" and it essentially is. But you have to look at it like slots... entertainment. You're paying for entertainment, like a movie, or TV streaming service. If you treat your play like that, and have fun, you will never lose! (except money you can afford to...)
I've forever understood many of the tactics used for me to lose control (sadly I still do); when I sit, I don't react to the almost spins. I'm as stoic as the machine punching out numbers before me. What can irritate me are the people around me, reacting to all the tricks of the machines. I started wearing ear plugs or listening to music; but you still have the bloody bangers.
I think the biggest scam are the bonus amounts, especially on Dragon links, piggy banking, fire links etc. Like you said it will cost you $80 to get a $26 bonus, then you keep trying and keep trying and keep trying until you hit zero….
I have really good luck with dragon link and lightning link. I usually play mid range bets on 1 cent or 2 cent and I can get decent payouts. The issue is when you get the 3 symbol bonus several times and all it pays is the amount for getting 3 symbols. That is straight nonsense.
I played a similar machine, put $20 in.. it was a bit confusing and it was 1 credit / 0.25 c a spin, first spin, won $11. Got up and walked off. Played the cherry jubilee for the first time at MGM, the lady next to me just hit her 3rd jackpot of $1000+.. I put in a $100, had 3 near misses / near hits / and small wins, but eventually lost the $100.. lol
Thank you brother. Those single line games that almost give you One when you hit it and immediately hit it again ,to stop it, does that screw up the system ?d? I hit a couple times doing that..✌️💙🏇🏇🏇
Always good info. I have a real question. The bonus on Sahara Gold, when you pick one of two treasure chests. Is it predetermined or not. Same thing on Happy Lantern. Thanks man.
My gambling buddy plays higher $ and he prefers the credits so the rubber necker don’t know exactly how much he has in or won. He is pretty good at quick math. However I’m a $ guy. Can’t do math that fast, especially in the .05 range. I struggle keeping up counting my card totals in Blackjack.
Hello! I want to know about the blazing sevens slots ? I play them all the time, but I do not play them when the progressive is high,I play them now when they just payed out and I seem to hit the jackpot more that way?
@GambleSmart but the old blazing sevens would pay on and even progressive now with the new blazing sevens you never know, but I've been playing them for 15 years, and I have seen a pattern they seem to do went they hit a certain number meaning for example: the 50 cent progressive starts at 750$ from 750$ to 769$ if the jackpot doesn't hit then it goes from 770$ to 800$ ,it's very rare the jackpot hits, then 800$ to 830$ sometimes the jackpot will hit then from 830$ to 900$ the jackpot never hits but it will give you a bunch of mix sevens and red sevens for 700$ ,if you keep on playing it takes the 700$ back then you put more, sometimes hits at 950$ but if not goes up to 1,000$ or more... I have seen this in all denominations of the blazing sevens, 25 cents,50 cents, 1$, and even the 2$. I also noticed when it goes quit for a while, then the jackpot hits. ...loll anyways, I know it's all about luck and random, but since I've been playing them for years it's a thing I have notice a lot.
Usually when any of these 5 scams happenning, I will wait for 1-3 minutes before I hit another spin. If it still not paying I will change my bet(increase or lower the best depends on how much money you had alreay put in). If the machine still not paying I will quit.
Most of the new games these days are designed with one objective - To keep you in that seat. You end up gambling much more money than intended to get that bonus. And when you finally get it, the bonus pays out a fraction of what you put in. Major scam. But those are the most popular games these days.
hey marc, the flashing lights on the quick hit got me thinking about when i play that kind of quick hit machine, whenever i get the first up jackpot (like 5 quick hits), the top light on the machine flashes like a police car light on his car!! i think that is a way for the player to play more and for people walking by to try and get them to play!
I agree line hits are horrible nowadays or not even worth ur original bet. What do they call it playback, payback whatever lol. I remember when casinos would brag about their playback. Not anymore
Marc, you guys and Cowboy Slots have touted the games such as Double Diamonds, Triple Start, Top Dollar, etc., as “low volitility” games. Do you think that the game programmers have watched your videos and have updated these games to now be “high volitility” games or at least closer to that? If so, then perhaps more and more newer games continue to be high volitility because people still enjoy those more than the admittedly boring “low volitility” games. And if you look at the number of viewers on low volitility game slot channels, they are definitely much lower than the high volitility game slot channels. So that also says something about people’s preferences. And Cowboy Slots is now playing and teaching us about some of these high volitility games and he, too, seems to enjoy them.
Manufacturers can't take a game that already exists and change the math to make it more volatile. Instead, they create new versions of the game. Good example of this is the new Double Top Dollar. The single payline version is the exact same math as the old ones. However, the new 5 line and 9 line versions are different. We will play high volatility games every now and then, but only in certain situations - for example, when we are doing well on our bankroll building budget. We are mostly here to educate, so if we started to play high volatility games people might wonder why. We are trying to stick to our message because it's how we play and how we've learned to play within our budget. Sometimes, we just try something different to keep people entertained too.
Excellent video, thank you! :-) The "near misses" annoy me the most. Especially when it keeps happening, but nothing hits. That's when I walk. See ya, bye! 😅 I'll keep my $, and you, Slot Manufacturer, can keep your moody little machine. 😂
4:05 is just a meme - it's a funny saying. Gamblers always say they are going to quit, right after they hit the "big one". Perceived Progression will be on the next list for sure - I just didn't have one of those games to demonstrate on!
I disagree with his answer … that’s bubble craps machine is a slot machine algorithm-similar to Casino-Wizard ( electronic craps, bj, roulette, baccarat ) it’s random but still rigged. I have proof.
The worst bonus games are the ones where you get to " pick " a box and then it will tell you the price after. Or you have to match 3 prize symbols. Those are very obviously pre-picked, so it doesn't actually matter which box you pick. Your MINI has already been picked. You can literally pick them in many different ways, and you will most likely get a mini, and maybe a minor. Still have yet to see a major, or a mega, or grand.
Played Dragon link slot yesterday and the screen dropped 5 out of 6 balls, $125, $125, $100,$100, minor, etc. all on the screen. Great teaser because you will NEVER see that drop during a bonus round. It’s in the programming. Even the gamblers around me agreed with me.
You are so right. They think everybody is so stupid that we cannot realize and see the scams.. We each have a redemption day that will come one day. I hope something else comes up and Casinos get their redemption day . .
I'm not a gambler, but I always win when I play. However, if I keep playing, I'll eventually lose all my money, and it may never come back. Thank you! Casinos have unlimited funds to pay out, but you don’t have unlimited money to bet. So when you run out of money, you lose!
I think you forgot the over flowing money bucket or the firecracker that only has a couple more to light Also the high volatile slots that half of the pay table pays less than your bet “You won “ I haven’t even won on Cherries Jubilee yet but I know not to chase it It’s still gambling and money management is the key Thank you for you teaching us how to play
I agree with the fact that you should never gamble when you can't afford the extra money!! Ive played beyond my means and lost my ass!! Gamble smart!!👍👍
I love your channel. Im watching you from Alicante, Spain and I must tell you that I learn a lot from you. We have similar slots over here and the system is the same. I use them at home to save up money whilst I play 😀😀😀 Keep up that great work and best regards
I've been to casinos far and wide and I rarely play slots, usually killing time. I prefer tables and dealers. I've seen a few people over the years hit big but I ain't lucky. Besides, 30 something years ago when I first started gambling I walked through the parking lot for employees and I noticed a couple of nice cars in the named spots. But the spot for slot manager was a convertible Corvette and the Table manager had a used Ford truck. No slots for me
I know that you guys believe that fat bags, lit up firecrackers, etc doesn’t mean anything. But to an extent, it does mean something. Like the long-haired geisha lady with the pearls in the bowl. Well, you usually have to have at least 3 or more pearls in the bowl before you start to come close to getting a bonus. There used to be a random red lantern screen bonus, too, which has become almost nonexistent on those games. And you won’t see anyone playing the game if there’s only 1 Pearl in the bowl bc it’s like you’re starting over. The same with the firecrackers all unlit or barely lit. Regular players know that those type of games need to be”build up” before you have a reasonable chance of getting a bonus.
@@GambleSmart Nope! I’ve played the Prosperity game with the geisha. I definitely got more line wins and the bonus once there were at least 3 pearls in the bowl because IF she dumps all the pearls out of the bowl during the bonus, then after the bonus you start all over again with only one pearl in the bowl. So depending on how much you want to play, the denomination can make the difference.
I have to do enough math every time I go to the grocery store or a restaurant! If the slots start to show credits instead of your real cash amount, people won’t play them because most of us don’t play slots to do the math. They can go play table games where they can count to their heart’s content 😂

Those are some great ones! I'll def have to do a part 2 :) I mostly picked ones that I could demonstrate at home.
"Or getting 5/6 lightning link balls, etc"
you left out the "of" part because 6 be great.
Oh, I can't beat lightning! damn!!!
Absolutely
I have never seen a small pot do anything, much less burst open.
Happens all the time.
Thank you for your Honesty and true facts about Slots Machine
Firecrackers, fish, bowls of coins etc - pretty scammy and there's more all the time at every casino.
I have won on a nearly full bowl of coins and have watch another person win also. So, sometimes it does pay off.
@@tigerkhanshort3053it's still random
That’s one for the swear jar too, Dave🤦🏽♀️
No offense but this channel is much more informative and enjoyable to watch than cowboys
i'm not a gambler. i don't understand how someone can put money into a machine that gives almost nothing back in return. i have played them a few times in the past. but always end up just loosing. so i no longer do it.
Great video!❤ It was super informative and fun. More videos like this please! 😊
Think new slots have sensors in them if you walk by they go into DEMO mode to get you to play them. Either that or timers. Great video Marc.
Yeah they are on timers.
Man, you are so right - gambling for kids LOL
Yea, it used to be for fun but then they started to have kids play for tickets to buy things that's what makes it gambling.
and the full bags, pots etc. Argh.
I need little hits to keep playing, it works on me (as designed).
"Why do they want us to do math right now??" 😆
As always great info for those who don't already know.
Great video and explanation. Way one of my past questions
Good video, thank you for all your helpful hints, enjoy all your videos.
Great video, Marc!! This will help so many people!
I hit a couple times doing that..✌️💙🏇🏇🏇
If you are referring to "fast stopping" the reels, no, that doesn't change what the result of the spin will be.
Always good info. I have a real question. The bonus on Sahara Gold, when you pick one of two treasure chests. Is it predetermined or not. Same thing on Happy Lantern. Thanks man.
That I'm not exactly sure on. I believe it is pre-determined.
@@GambleSmart really, that's a drag. Was hoping for the actual choice on those. Really appreciate you answering back.

That was one of the best clips shown !! Thanks for the heads up 🕳️🕳️

What does IGT say when you write them with your complaints ?
My gambling buddy plays higher $ and he prefers the credits so the rubber necker don’t know exactly how much he has in or won. He is pretty good at quick math. However I’m a $ guy. Can’t do math that fast, especially in the .05 range. I struggle keeping up counting my card totals in Blackjack.
Hello! I want to know about the blazing sevens slots ? I play them all the time, but I do not play them when the progressive is high,I play them now when they just payed out and I seem to hit the jackpot more that way?
Makes no difference. The odds of hitting the progressive are the same on each spin.
This is great advice! I quit gambling at casinos years ago, wish this video was out when I use to go lol
Usually when any of these 5 scams happenning, I will wait for 1-3 minutes before I hit another spin. If it still not paying I will change my bet(increase or lower the best depends on how much money you had alreay put in). If the machine still not paying I will quit.
It's a good practice for money management, but just be aware that you can't find some magic bet combination that will mean it will start hitting. :)
Hey Marc, Good one, so true, awesome fun vid.
Yup! Celebration mode
I agree line hits are horrible nowadays or not even worth ur original bet. What do they call it playback, payback whatever lol. I remember when casinos would brag about their playback. Not anymore
Bottom line I suppose is to look at the casinos payout percentage
I share your irritations….Love the Paris logo on your pinball machine. Thanks for the vid Marc.
@@GambleSmart
Great explanation. Thanks.
Biggest scam is hitting a jackpot and thinking it's going to hit again , no!!! Cash out and leave don't keep thinking your going to win more .
Tampa Hard Rock pays slots out like 1%. Last 20 trips I haven't had one bonus or decent line hit.
That would be very much against the law.
Great remindes, thanks!
This is why it is called "gambling"
Don't gamble what you can't afford to loose
Have a good Cowboy kind

Excellent video, thank you! :-) The "near misses" annoy me the most. Especially when it keeps happening, but nothing hits. That's when I walk. See ya, bye! 😅 I'll keep my $, and you, Slot Manufacturer, can keep your moody little machine. 😂
Nummer 6 : The pictures of high stacks, big piggies, full loaded pots, big fishbowls etcetera.
Got that right!
Great information on this video. Thanks I'll know what to look for the next time I go gambling. Give it the finger was funny.
It was a great video, fun and informative 😄 I laughed when you gave it the finger 🤣😂🤣
4:05 please explain?😊 also surprised perceived progression didn’t make the list?
4:05 is just a meme - it's a funny saying. Gamblers always say they are going to quit, right after they hit the "big one". Perceived Progression will be on the next list for sure - I just didn't have one of those games to demonstrate on!
@@GambleSmart nice ! that’s honestly the number scam imo!
Thanks for the heads up!👍🤗
Thank you for this video
What are your thoughts on bingo games
Very good video!!! I play slots all the time and have always wondered about every thing you have pointed out but its good to see someone explain them.
Question, is a bubble craps game real dice with random rolls or is it manipulated like slots?
No, it can't be manipulated by law. The dice must be random.
I disagree with his answer … that’s bubble craps machine is a slot machine algorithm-similar to Casino-Wizard ( electronic craps, bj, roulette, baccarat ) it’s random but still rigged. I have proof.
@@JC-dt7rnwhat proof?
@@deankoosman4119yeah they are. Technically they ain't breaking the law. It's in the details
New Sub here and I thought the 90% fun fact was hilarious! Thanks for posting stuff like this that will hopefully help win some 💰
Welcome to the family!
Thumbs up for the Capt Fantastic EM pinball machine alone
Great pin!
I hope something else comes up and Casinos get their redemption day . .
Hi @Gamble Smart
We fly in 2 Month to Las Vegas. Do you have any Tipps which Slot Machines are the Best for only Line Hits?
I use 5vspin rule,no hit move on....😂
I'm not a gambler, but I always win when I play. However, if I keep playing, I'll eventually lose all my money, and it may never come back. Thank you!
Casinos have unlimited funds to pay out, but you don’t have unlimited money to bet. So when you run out of money, you lose!
Well said
I think you forgot the over flowing money bucket or the firecracker that only has a couple more to light Also the high volatile slots that half of the pay table pays less than your bet “You won “ I haven’t even won on Cherries Jubilee yet but I know not to chase it It’s still gambling and money management is the key Thank you for you teaching us how to play
Oh yeah, that will def be in the part 2 :) LOL
Great video!
Hi. Is the bubble craps machine really a slot machine ?
I agree with the fact that you should never gamble when you can't afford the extra money!! Ive played beyond my means and lost my ass!! Gamble smart!!👍👍
Hey Mark, are you coming back to Reno anytime soon? Would like to meet you! I'm at GSR
BUT THE BIGGEST SCAN IS WHEN THEY RAISE THE MAJOR THAT SHOWS $1,000. YOU KEEP PUTTING AND PUTTING MORE MONEY AND THEN NEVER HITS.
I love your channel. Im watching you from Alicante, Spain and I must tell you that I learn a lot from you.
We have similar slots over here and the system is the same.
I use them at home to save up money whilst I play 😀😀😀
Keep up that great work and best regards
That is awesome!
Scam #3 was ACTUALLY that you were pressing "PLAY 2 CREDITS" yet it charged you 5 🤣
I've been to casinos far and wide and I rarely play slots, usually killing time.
I hear ya, but it's still not true. They don't have to build up at all. It's all perceived progression.
@@GambleSmart
Nope!
Thanks for the education about how machines get you to play them.
