    We get up at 6:00 everyday and usually never have time to eat breakfast, which let me remind you is the most important meal of the day. Without breakfast, we won't work or think as productively. We have somewhere around seven hours of school and somewhere around thirty minutes of break which is usually lunch. And at lunch is usually when students do their homework or stress about how much they have. We are then expected to go home and do another hour or two of homework and have extra curricular activities and be able to sustain a normal social life. After staying up till 12:00 or maybe even later, we go to bed and repeat the process. We aren't raising an intelligent, successful, creative generation. We are raising a generation of zombies. We need change.

      Delaney Konz uhhh... Tbh these aren't good arguments. With good time management you are able to eat breakfast (sleep earlier), eat lunch (do homework at home), do homework and have time free for yourself (time management). I get your point and I know its difficult but you are able to deal with it.

      at my uni on master studies (MA) we have Pass/non-pass; lack of pressure to get an A for some reason motivates to do well even better, without the pressure and with space to so your thing and actually learn :) I hope you have a similar opportunity in the future, good luck :)

      Alyssa Ramirez The unfortunate thing about this is that a lot of my peers, and me included, actually like learning, but learning for a grade sours the entire experience. It turns something that could be really interesting and worth-knowing into a stressful experience.

Every subject can be as interesting as arts and sports, if the teacher is doing a good job.

The lessons are still there and are still relevant. 1:10 Don't compare material advancement to an academic system lmao. 1:32 The rows are irrelevant. The raising hands is in order to allow kids to input opinion without interrupting each other. 1:40 Most teachers, especially ones in interpretive subjects, don't tell us what to think just the best way to get to it. If it's an absolute truth subject like math then they should. 1:55 Doctors tend to have to have higher education and more "skilled" jobs. 2:27 >wants them to prepare us for the future >wants more art or dance classes rather than math. 2:36 THat's a pretty crappy comparison considering the climate, population, etc. differences.

    As an aerospace engineering student, most children in the new generations pay most attention to social media rather than their own education, sure we need a new education system that doesn't rely solely on letter grades, but also in the students and teachers to work together and structure classes based on what career the student wants to have

    • @desperateeffort4132
      @desperateeffort4132 3 роки тому +3

      First of all, the leaders need to change the school system to make it so that learning is actually interesting, teachers will actually care more about how the students are improving and if they actually do understand the lesson before moving on, prioritizing quality over quantity and actually talk and motivate students and help them if they were ever to have a problem and try their best to help. That would make students more motivated to go to school and take it seriously, be honest, and actually try to improve. When the students become more motivated and take things seriously, the amount of bullies will decrease rapidly and it would make a much better and non-toxic environment to learn and motivate the students even more and their health will go up. And lastly, the parents and guardians need to be taught about how grades doesn't matter as much and how they need to treat their children and just look at the improvement rather than the actual numbers. If they're not improving, they need to talk to their child calmly, ask them about the problem and make the child understand that its fine to be honest and help them solve their problems. All in all, this would help everyone.
      The world would get better imployees and possible leaders, better relationships between children and parents/guardians, better coordination and teamwork to help students improve, and all in all would make the world a better place. But for that wonderful and better world to be in our hands, the leaders of the world who actually has powers to do that needs to open their eyes and make the first move. It's like a whole domino effect.

    A lot of people argue that "kids are just lazy" which is completely true, but if schools changed they way they teach (for example, teach the need to know basics of math, social studies, and science and then let the extra stuff be optional) then kids wouldn't be lazy because they'd have more of a drive to try. Give the students options, dont make then sit and learn something they won't even try to do, let them do something they want to pursue a career in or at least let them choose to take a class that will help them more as an adult. Let art students focus on art especially if they want to pursue it, let math kids do math, and science kids do science. Finally, give the teachers good pay, they carve the path for students and students carve the path for the next generations.

There's drawing and painting classes, ceramics classes, band practice, theater, theater tech, filming classes, dance teams, sports teams. There's plenty of extra curricular activities in school to help kids practice the core focus of what they think they might want to get into career wise and for college. But the general education is important too, they should add more stuff about taxes/mortgages/insurance and stuff though.

    Here's an actual quote by Einstein. One that goes against the fish story
    “I want to oppose the idea that the school has to teach directly that special knowledge and those accomplishments which one has to use later directly in life. The demands of life are much too manifold to let such a specialized training in school appear possible […] The development of general ability for independent thinking and judgement should always be placed foremost.”

  • @aznchopinpianist
    @aznchopinpianist 7 років тому +25

    I think it would've been better to have the adults react to this one, especially since one of them is a teacher. The teens are obviously going to support this 'reform school' message, but have no practical (and really thought-out) solutions to offer. Our educational system is currently tied down because of states' rights to govern education. Charter schools often do better because they have more independence than public schools.

    Don't say math kills creativity. More advanced problems require your creativity and in order to do the task you need to think outside common knowledge. Math is very often found as the hardest subject just becouse it requires practice, remembering and creativity, all at the same time. People tend to have one or two of those core skills and aren't strong or motivated enough to develop third. That's why math is such a problem for many and school does very little to help you with that.
