We get up at 6:00 everyday and usually never have time to eat breakfast, which let me remind you is the most important meal of the day. Without breakfast, we won't work or think as productively. We have somewhere around seven hours of school and somewhere around thirty minutes of break which is usually lunch. And at lunch is usually when students do their homework or stress about how much they have. We are then expected to go home and do another hour or two of homework and have extra curricular activities and be able to sustain a normal social life. After staying up till 12:00 or maybe even later, we go to bed and repeat the process. We aren't raising an intelligent, successful, creative generation. We are raising a generation of zombies. We need change.

Make it more interactive and teach kids stuff based on what they actually *need* to know for what they want their future jobs to be (chosen in 8th or 9th grade maybe), like college, instead of shoving everything possible down their throats and hoping for the best.
i got an C in chemistry and my mom didin't even smile. She even said. - you have to get an A or i wont be proud. Sorry for my bad english im from Sweden
My thoughts on school are: School right now is teaching us to memorize and follow While what it NEEDS to do to train us for the future is how to Adapt and Change.
Actually that is what school does. It's the students fault.I always followed everything in school and what the professors told me and i never had any problems with life after school exactly because i listened to what they told me
KoKo_Ninja It is,if they actually bothered to practise and study and stop saying things like "im a fish so i cant climb tree" no thats wrong if you believe enough and work hard you can achieve that. You can climb the tree even as a fish. Even tho we are all different we all have the same potential. And with enough studying and practising anyone can achieve great knowledge.
No, the best teacher does both. Intrinsical motivation is of course critical, but it is as important to correct students where they are wrong and help them where they can't progress by themselves.
theschreiberclan Yeah, as if we don't do enough for 6 hours, locked in doors. They feel the need to send us home to do more of what we already did in class. Home is supposed to be our place to destress, and we need time to ourselves.
@EE drawz yeah def indian teachers are the worst they always beat and scold and in my school there was a stupid rule that you can't go to the bathroom during school hours and we can't do anything abt it yknow
@EE drawz that's not on the schools fault thats on the parents not parenting their kid. Most parents sit down with their kid(s) and teach them how to read for when they start kindergarten or preschool and then the kids reading lvl evolves over time
* "Teens react to a propaganda piece about the school system" No, the system isn't perfect, but before anyone starts flippantly changing everything, they should know why things are the way they are, so things aren't made worse by ignoring something that was learned centuries ago. (You don't throw the baby out with the bath water)
Look up an outlet from a hundred years ago. Look up lightbulbs from a hundred years ago. Look up spoons from a hundred years ago, or even a thousand. They haven't really changed in a significant way.
***** "Obviously you don't just change school for no reason, I get that." You have no idea how many adults can't figure that out (especially when applied to politics). Good luck with your schooling, and I hope you never lose that sensibility
There's a lot of people whose job is dance. They teach dance, they dance for companies, they do back up dancing. That is their job. That is how they bill their bills. No one is the same. There are millions of jobs that pay bills that don't deal with math.
You know, people might actually care about school and learn things if they were interested in why they were learning and weren't forced to be boxed in one square that EVERYONE must be in.
As an aerospace engineering student, most children in the new generations pay most attention to social media rather than their own education, sure we need a new education system that doesn't rely solely on letter grades, but also in the students and teachers to work together and structure classes based on what career the student wants to have
First of all, the leaders need to change the school system to make it so that learning is actually interesting, teachers will actually care more about how the students are improving and if they actually do understand the lesson before moving on, prioritizing quality over quantity and actually talk and motivate students and help them if they were ever to have a problem and try their best to help. That would make students more motivated to go to school and take it seriously, be honest, and actually try to improve. When the students become more motivated and take things seriously, the amount of bullies will decrease rapidly and it would make a much better and non-toxic environment to learn and motivate the students even more and their health will go up. And lastly, the parents and guardians need to be taught about how grades doesn't matter as much and how they need to treat their children and just look at the improvement rather than the actual numbers. If they're not improving, they need to talk to their child calmly, ask them about the problem and make the child understand that its fine to be honest and help them solve their problems. All in all, this would help everyone. The world would get better imployees and possible leaders, better relationships between children and parents/guardians, better coordination and teamwork to help students improve, and all in all would make the world a better place. But for that wonderful and better world to be in our hands, the leaders of the world who actually has powers to do that needs to open their eyes and make the first move. It's like a whole domino effect.
A lot of people argue that "kids are just lazy" which is completely true, but if schools changed they way they teach (for example, teach the need to know basics of math, social studies, and science and then let the extra stuff be optional) then kids wouldn't be lazy because they'd have more of a drive to try. Give the students options, dont make then sit and learn something they won't even try to do, let them do something they want to pursue a career in or at least let them choose to take a class that will help them more as an adult. Let art students focus on art especially if they want to pursue it, let math kids do math, and science kids do science. Finally, give the teachers good pay, they carve the path for students and students carve the path for the next generations.
MixingPaint I couldn't have said it better myself, mostly because I've actually proposed this idea to my friends almost word for word before I read this.
But to be honest, you're spending so much time at school and even off-school. School isn't there to raise you, but actually help you to be a person in society nawmsayin. Like ya parents aint there 24/7. But it doesn't just need to limit us for just a job, should use the knowledge we were taught to influence people and help this world ya'll feel me
shanira99 That's why we need change because they choose what you learn even if it does absolutely nothing for you. Trying in something you aren't wishing to succeed in is extremely hard. Also, kids get more influence from people they talk to more than their parents.
Why don't you show this same video to the adults and have them react.. Hell even one of them is a teacher, at least he'll have something intelligent to say
DvL STEAKums I don't care about their political views and that doesn't mean they'll say the same thing, also that doesn't mean all those adults were born and raised in California for 35+ years... I'm mostly just interested to hear what the teacher from Adults Reacts has to say about this
***** Compared to the rest of the modern world our math and science education system leaves our kids years behind their counter parts in other countries. If you want to do a comparison you have to look at what they are teaching. They aren't focusing on the arts.
Nothing is more important than another whether it be computer engineering, construction worker, Doctor, etc. It is what keeps humanity going and how long we can exist.
Yeah, the reason why places like Finland and Singapore are said to have such great schools is because their students test the best in mathematics and sciences.
So you're telling me that 150 years ago, schools had child protection rights, modern technology, nonsegregated school systems, three different layers of the school system, background checks on teachers, healthy and affordable lunch options, and multi-level schools. Yeah, ok.
there is a class called economics that teaches that. Sadly in mine we just learned how to debate on topics which was freaking stupid and useless. Plus my teacher was new and old so he really had no clue what he was doing.
I understand the message, but the schooling system is fine. There's drawing and painting classes, ceramics classes, band practice, theater, theater tech, filming classes, dance teams, sports teams. There's plenty of extra curricular activities in school to help kids practice the core focus of what they think they might want to get into career wise and for college. But the general education is important too, they should add more stuff about taxes/mortgages/insurance and stuff though.
i have never had a single class where they discuss how important social media and world problems are, but i've been required to know chemical compounds and graphical limits
My school always thought it was important, I have a class about current media and past history. This class was amazing, they stressed that this age is the Information Age so they try to diatribe information about current events and how it will impact us. I'm surprised that some schools don't teach this...
This video made me realise something in my school we have to chose our subjects in year 9 that we will have to do for our gcse's which is an important test you do in year 11(age 15-16) if I someone doesn't get good grades in math it means they can't take science. There could be an amazing scientist that just doesn't get math that well. But they wouldn't be able to become one in my school..........
"Sure math is important but no more than art or dance" YEAH sure don't make Incredible advances in mathematics and technology and forget about even watching the video math is everywhere it is the fundamental foundation of well everything science arts geography history everything so yeah math is real important
See?! This is why there are so many idiots going for art classes. "Buh dancin and litreryature is muh more imporant than science! What did science do? Bombs." Typical idiots.

I'd be happy to pay teachers as much as doctors but unfortunately, I've probably had TWO good teachers in my entire life. I'm sorry, but a lot of teachers just don't care about their students.
Mumtaz Said Lol, my problem was the opposite. There were so many things I was considered good at and many things that I liked that I wanted a triple major with like two minors. But my parents refused to pay for anything that wasn't STEM or pre-med or pre-law. So I was pretty much left with one option, Computer Science.
Mumtaz Said I wanted English, Art, History, Philosophy, Fashion, Interior Design, Architecture, Anthropology, Psychology, Comp Sci, Biology, Physics, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Music. I got shot down for most of those, including Biology and Physics.
this, lol. People hide behind "school needs to change" and they dont realize they're the issue. Im on it if we want to change certain things about it, but 95% of the times is just stupid teens or people blaming it for their mistakes/dissabilities.
School doesn't test your knowledge. It tests how good your memory is. My teachers say I'm a really bright student. Yet I average a C's. I'm smart but don't have great memory. And now my grades suffer.
Here's an actual quote by Einstein. One that goes against the fish story “I want to oppose the idea that the school has to teach directly that special knowledge and those accomplishments which one has to use later directly in life. The demands of life are much too manifold to let such a specialized training in school appear possible […] The development of general ability for independent thinking and judgement should always be placed foremost.”
What about Steve jobs? He invented the modern day iPhones, did he need school? No because it broke his ideas for creating new technology so he dropped out and became a millionaire
Stuff is wrong with the school system of course. But ''Nothing has changed'' ? Are you kidding me? Teachers beat students, they are segregated by race and gender? The books havent adapted? Methods havent changed?
Elevindollar Ikr sometimes I feel like these videos are made to make less intelligible people feel better about themselves and purely for that reason They ever considered that 'nerds' are smart because they work hard
Mya Bligen Methods have changed dramatically. Beating is one of them, tons of new methods are being developed regularly, teachers are educated on these all the time
"Sure Math is important but no more than Art or Dance." No, you are wrong, Mathematics is much more important than the ability to dance or analyse/draw art.
Littlemisssmileyface yet science can also cause or create new viruses and diseases that can millions of possible death. Art is like output on how you feel and can also see the person's state of mind, Art is also helps how the society evolves.
tsunaxsawada10 You're on to something. People don't necessarily see Psychology as an art, but the best of psychiatrists are brilliant in their ability to unweave the abstract and root out the source. This takes a brilliantly creative mind.
I think it would've been better to have the adults react to this one, especially since one of them is a teacher. The teens are obviously going to support this 'reform school' message, but have no practical (and really thought-out) solutions to offer. Our educational system is currently tied down because of states' rights to govern education. Charter schools often do better because they have more independence than public schools.
My mom is a teacher and she hates the school system and she feels bad for the children because she wants to teach them in a way that they will grow up to be successful she has to deal with all the common core bullshit
School isn't about learning the basic life skills your parents, family, community etc should be teaching you. Schools are there to teach you academia. Maths, English, Science, Economics, History, etc.
SpecAgentChris1 A lot of schools do offer life skills classes. Things like woodshop, home ec, textiles, accounting, typing, drivers ed and health. But if a school has a limited budget, these are the classes that will get cut first. It is better to learn English and Maths as these can be applied to many jobs
And that my friends is why I am homeschooled, and why people need to stop shaming homeschoolers for being "different" or "socially awkward nerds". Because we are obviously doing something right vs the public school system.
Don't say math kills creativity. More advanced problems require your creativity and in order to do the task you need to think outside common knowledge. Math is very often found as the hardest subject just becouse it requires practice, remembering and creativity, all at the same time. People tend to have one or two of those core skills and aren't strong or motivated enough to develop third. That's why math is such a problem for many and school does very little to help you with that.

Make it more interactive and teach kids stuff based on what they actually *need* to know for what they want their future jobs to be (chosen in 8th or 9th grade maybe), like college, instead of shoving everything possible down their throats and hoping for the best.

My thoughts on school are:
School right now is teaching us to memorize and follow
While what it NEEDS to do to train us for the future is how to Adapt and Change.
Actually that is what school does. It's the students fault.I always followed everything in school and what the professors told me and i never had any problems with life after school exactly because i listened to what they told me
KoKo_Ninja
It is,if they actually bothered to practise and study and stop saying things like "im a fish so i cant climb tree" no thats wrong if you believe enough and work hard you can achieve that. You can climb the tree even as a fish.
Even tho we are all different we all have the same potential. And with enough studying and practising anyone can achieve great knowledge.
my teacher just got layed off for trying to be different
That's the school system for you.
I swear school caused me to have panic attacks and low self esteem
FartingUnicorn sounds like bullshit to me
Do you mean the people at school?
i have low self esteem because of school
I agree.
I suffer anxiety. Thank you school.
The best teachers doesn't teach at all, but rather inspires their students to teach themselves
No, the best teacher does both. Intrinsical motivation is of course critical, but it is as important to correct students where they are wrong and help them where they can't progress by themselves.
School isn't about learning anymore it's about passing.
It also isn't about "getting a job".
I've pretty much made straight As all my life but don't retain a lot of info, and I feel like it's gonna backfire on me since I'm starting college.
Then study more if you don't retain information.

whenever i ask for help because i don't get something. they just tell me, "its in the book" and at the end of the day i still didn't learn anything.
you don't learn anything because you don't study, students just memorize everything 4-1 days prior to the test and that isn't stutdying
really homework is bs
theschreiberclan Yeah, as if we don't do enough for 6 hours, locked in doors. They feel the need to send us home to do more of what we already did in class. Home is supposed to be our place to destress, and we need time to ourselves.
TALKINGtac0 plus I think most schools do it for 7 or 8 hrs actually
School is really just how much can you memorize for the test
Nicolas Bocchino And then forget it the next month
exactly i remember some things from a test and then i forgot it
Same now I have to memorize or aka study then forget the next day and memorize another test

This vídeo is beutiful
I love this I wish the Australian government would give a shit though
@EE drawz yeah def indian teachers are the worst they always beat and scold and in my school there was a stupid rule that you can't go to the bathroom during school hours and we can't do anything abt it yknow
@EE drawz that's not on the schools fault thats on the parents not parenting their kid.
Most parents sit down with their kid(s) and teach them how to read for when they start kindergarten or preschool and then the kids reading lvl evolves over time
it would be interesting to have educators react to this video

* "Teens react to a propaganda piece about the school system"
No, the system isn't perfect, but before anyone starts flippantly changing everything, they should know why things are the way they are, so things aren't made worse by ignoring something that was learned centuries ago. (You don't throw the baby out with the bath water)
Bill 1138 Have you seen the comparison of the United States education system to the rest of the world?
Look up an outlet from a hundred years ago. Look up lightbulbs from a hundred years ago. Look up spoons from a hundred years ago, or even a thousand. They haven't really changed in a significant way.
yes, school needs change
***** "Obviously you don't just change school for no reason, I get that."
You have no idea how many adults can't figure that out (especially when applied to politics). Good luck with your schooling, and I hope you never lose that sensibility
Bill 1138
That made zero sense at all
yeah guys math is no more important than art or dance, because you just have to know how to dance to pay your bills and taxes.
There's a lot of people whose job is dance. They teach dance, they dance for companies, they do back up dancing. That is their job. That is how they bill their bills. No one is the same. There are millions of jobs that pay bills that don't deal with math.
Grumar S You know what a calculator is, right?
Destros gaming but how would u know how to use it if i barely know any math
Destros gaming In math class they teach you how would you do it if you didn't had a calculator or phone close to you, well in my country they do.
Uh school has changed in the past 150 years. Before it was about learning and now it's about passing.
Oh wow
thats depressing
Noelle Morgan Wow okay, thank you for listing things that has changed in school
Exactly it went from a 1 room school to a multi room/floor school

It's like a whole domino effect.
all school ever does is make me feel stupid, stressed, and alone
I relate too much m8.

You go to school to get a job in the future. The actual shaping you to be an adult is the parents job. The school isn't there to raise you.
Thank you!
That's the problem. It's a tool for material success instead of a chance to expand the way you see and engage the world.
I'm mostly just interested to hear what the teacher from Adults Reacts has to say about this
Math and science education is more important then art, especially in this country where math and science education is so poor.
***** Compared to the rest of the modern world our math and science education system leaves our kids years behind their counter parts in other countries. If you want to do a comparison you have to look at what they are teaching. They aren't focusing on the arts.
Art(iculation) is how this guy spread his message in the video.
Nothing is more important than another whether it be computer engineering, construction worker, Doctor, etc. It is what keeps humanity going and how long we can exist.
Yeah, the reason why places like Finland and Singapore are said to have such great schools is because their students test the best in mathematics and sciences.
Looks like you disregarded everything else they said
So you're telling me that 150 years ago, schools had child protection rights, modern technology, nonsegregated school systems, three different layers of the school system, background checks on teachers, healthy and affordable lunch options, and multi-level schools. Yeah, ok.
i mean yeah the schools are better nowadays but that doesn't mean they don't need improvement
Jason Doe healthy food? Im better off eating trash from the back alley way and get 100% more nutrition
lolita and cars dont they aren't perfect
Brendan Sman
i didn't say anything about cars. but i agree that everything can use improvement
why don't they learn about taxes or how to make profit? I learned all of that in 4th grade :/
👌nice
there is a class called economics that teaches that. Sadly in mine we just learned how to debate on topics which was freaking stupid and useless. Plus my teacher was new and old so he really had no clue what he was doing.
Oriana B wow ....that's sad
Oriana B did you tell the principle
Oriana B those people were idiots tbh
I understand the message, but the schooling system is fine. There's drawing and painting classes, ceramics classes, band practice, theater, theater tech, filming classes, dance teams, sports teams. There's plenty of extra curricular activities in school to help kids practice the core focus of what they think they might want to get into career wise and for college. But the general education is important too, they should add more stuff about taxes/mortgages/insurance and stuff though.
Nina Dees No the school system needs to be sorted out
Nina Dees unless you have no life doing all those things to the best of your ability is difficult, you have to prioritize things over the others.
Nina Dees Maybe at your school, hun.
Nina Dees - You should google John Taylor Gatto.
i have never had a single class where they discuss how important social media and world problems are, but i've been required to know chemical compounds and graphical limits

Mumtaz Said I agree on both points. At my university, if you can't do anything else, they say take an education degree.
I got shot down for most of those, including Biology and Physics.
and yet all i see in class is students on their phones instead of learning

than they should try to be a pro at what they are good instead of blaming the school system
lol so true. These guys don't address the counter argument. The school system is fine
Kazejito yea but then they force us into doing math that very few professions actually require
School doesn't test your knowledge. It tests how good your memory is. My teachers say I'm a really bright student. Yet I average a C's. I'm smart but don't have great memory. And now my grades suffer.
Here's an actual quote by Einstein. One that goes against the fish story
“I want to oppose the idea that the school has to teach directly that special knowledge and those accomplishments which one has to use later directly in life. The demands of life are much too manifold to let such a specialized training in school appear possible […] The development of general ability for independent thinking and judgement should always be placed foremost.”
The reason why phones and cars have developed from a hundred years ago is because classrooms stayed the same from a hundred years ago.
Elevindollar And technology
Elevindollar I think they're talking about the methods of teaching... those haven't changed... in most cases
His speech is definitely exaggerated and misinformed. They needed to watch a Ted Talk on this subject.
Elevindollar
Ikr sometimes I feel like these videos are made to make less intelligible people feel better about themselves and purely for that reason
They ever considered that 'nerds' are smart because they work hard
Mya Bligen Methods have changed dramatically. Beating is one of them, tons of new methods are being developed regularly, teachers are educated on these all the time
We need education but the school system is pretty messed up
The school system definitely needs reform.

"Sure Math is important but no more than Art or Dance." No, you are wrong, Mathematics is much more important than the ability to dance or analyse/draw art.
So being creative isn't important? Without creativity, there would be no use for math.
agree
Subjects such as science will allow for the bettering of basic living conditions, while arts will never be able to do that.
Littlemisssmileyface yet science can also cause or create new viruses and diseases that can millions of possible death. Art is like output on how you feel and can also see the person's state of mind, Art is also helps how the society evolves.
tsunaxsawada10
You're on to something.
People don't necessarily see Psychology as an art, but the best of psychiatrists are brilliant in their ability to unweave the abstract and root out the source. This takes a brilliantly creative mind.
"They are the lowest paying job." So teachers make $7.25? Ok.
Aerity I think she means as a job that so important to the world
Aerity and also you have to get a type of degree
L
John Sabp I wasn't talking to you boi, I was taking about Aerity comment
I think Adults and Elders need to react to this too for added contrast or added commentary on the topic
My mom is a teacher and she hates the school system and she feels bad for the children because she wants to teach them in a way that they will grow up to be successful she has to deal with all the common core bullshit
.....what's common core?
Stacy Silver hell
Stacy Silver common core is just the worst thing you will experience
Stacy Silver it is a bullshit way of teaching math.
"All of you get taught the same stuff. Period. No matter what you do, you learn the same crap the future drop outs do."
Is that in U.S.?
I agree with this because I have no idea how to pay taxes, write a check, etc. For me learning about algebra doesn't help me at all.
School isn't about learning the basic life skills your parents, family, community etc should be teaching you. Schools are there to teach you academia. Maths, English, Science, Economics, History, etc.
yeah exactly, which is why it needs to change.
It was found that once common core math started grades lowered, creativity lowered, and stress grew over a healthy level
There's no real way to measure creativity.
Source?
Give me a solid source and I will consider it

don't have that in my country ;(
Get elders to react to this too, it'd be interesting what their thoughts would be
this
Im so happy that I know how to find the length of a hypotenuse instead of finding a job
It breaks my heart that school nowadays is about passing and getting by, and no longer about learning
