Two of my favourite guitarists from two of my favourite bands. This was such a great chat, you guys get along like you’ve been mates for years. The people want a Chimaira and Sylosis tour!
Dude...im right there along with Josh. Chimaira MATTERED to TONS of us. I could totally hear all the bands you loved and thats why I loved Chimaira so much. It was the brainchild of all those bands, Metallica Slayer Morbid Angel, Cannibal, Machine Head, sepultura, in other words, damn near perfect.
Josh is so humble. Give that man credit for his vocals, he’s really underselling himself. What he does on vocals on top of the elite guitar work he does is incredible. He’s one of the top metal vocalists in the scene. Thanks for the top notch music you give us year after year, much love and appreciation.
Saw the length and didn't think I would bother watching the whole thing. Ended up watching it all in one sitting 😂😂😂 So many interesting topics, at no point was it boring. Really loved the deep nerdy talk. Please do more like this!
None of the guitar nerd stuff you guys are talking about is boring. This is exactly why im listening to this whole podcast. Im a guitarist and wanna record at home so i love this kinda info. Appreciate you guys.
love the fact that josh is still so much of a fan of yours rob, as we all are! impossibility of reason was such an important album for all of us. and josh is such a modern day pioneer of this sound and its just great to see. 10/10 video, would also love to see more old school home videos from that era like josh said!
Im gonna be 46 next month man and im still a huge metal fan. I had a kill em all cassette tape i carried with me back in 2nd or 3rd grade and use to play drums until my drums got washed away in a flood in 97 and bought a guitar after that . Been playing guitar since then. Lol
Dude, this is a mount rushmore video for the channel and I expect it will become one of the most viewed over time. Great energy from by sides. Not-so-humble brag: I owned both of their signature guitars together at one point. As well as other models discussed (H307, MH301).
Others have said it already but it's great to see two of my favorite guitarists in one podcast🤘 Also when Josh talked about showing off the riff to Walk without production I was dying lmao
Man! , I was at that show at the house of blues . I was wondering while I was “ I wonder if rob arnold is here “ . I drove about 4 hours from Indiana it was a great show .
I only found sylosis maybe a couple years ago, but they’re already one of my biggest inspirations. A sign of things to come was so damn heavy and so aggressive without stupid low tuning or unneeded breakdowns. It blew my mind. I’m constantly trying to write stuff more like that, and now with Ultimate heavy drums, my mixes sound so much better with so little effort. Josh is truly such a boon to the metal community.
Dude, thanks for making this interview happen. You are both fantastic musicians, and I've been listening to both bands for many years now. It's really cool to hear about all the similarities in your tastes, work ethic, and approach to making music. Josh references loving the BTS of making music, and although I'm not a musician, I've always loved it too. A Year and A Half In The Life Of...is one that I own and have watched numerous times. Please keep making music and content for all of us to absorb. You're both meant to do it!
I like Malevolence even more now that I know they jam Chimaira in their bus! I seen them this summer in Richmond, VA with Lamb of God. They where awesome! Super lineup Kerry King was amazing as well!
Man, Chimaira and Sylosis are two of the most influential bands on me as a guitarist. After I discovered Metallica and stuff and then got into more "modern" metal in the early 2000s, those two Bands had such a big influence on me. And now here's a Video of the two guitarist from those bands. Amazing!
Interesting take on the hipshot bridge, the reason he didn’t like them is the reason I do 😆. In combination with a TUSQ nut, you get such cool overtones and sustain. But he’s right, it can make it sound brittle if you don’t take care of any sympathetic noises. This whole interview is a ton of cool perspective and info.
The way Josh speaks about that time period, in the UK, and the bands coming out of those influences is bringing some serious nostalgia. Sylosis, Malefice, Viatrophy, Arusha Accord, Exit Ten. You could hear the inspiration from NWOAHM and the specific British colouring. Chatting about hanging out with mates, blasting Impossibility, serious memories.
Really enjoyed this one. Great chemistry and can see that you both could have gone on talking for way longer. Would love to see a tour with both bands! Maybe some day.
Awesome interview Rob! I’m not even a guitarist but I could listen you talk music and instruments all day long! I picked up one of the Chimaira “I still hate everyone” hoodies using your discount code also and the print quality was SO GOOD !!!! Loving “and buying” all the new merch that’s dropping. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
What a cool video, Josh’s guitar is sick. Very cool! I’ve been looking for a new one, this might be it! It’s class to see Chimaira getting their legendary dues 🤘
I have the same hard time as Josh while singing and playing at the same, the rhythm right hand fuckes me up! btw Robb Flynn is the guy that always comes to my mind when doing crazy stuffs while playing and singing!
Subbed a long time now, love the content as always. Picked up Ultimate Heavy Drums last year when it released, amazing piece of kit and Josh seems like a great guy!
So when you said “the ride ain’t over”… does that mean we may possibly have some hope for a future of Chimaira? I know a couple festival shows lined up (hopefully Louder Than Life) but maybe new music?

Rob please, iv searched everywhere. how do you get that nothing remains guitar tone at 2.25? is there a partially engaged wah pedal going on? even your non wah leads have an engaged tone later on in the song (not the parts where you are using it) Is there a secret to this, iv wanted to know for maybe nearly 20 years. Thank you, your the best.
He explains it very well in his DVD, it's basically the stadard tunning (drop c) + a second full octave up (12 semi-tones) as a second guitar tone at the same time. Hope this helps out ! that's basically what I did when I covered the song.
Rob were yo nervous? there were some parts where you talked so damn fast I wasn't sure if Josh actually understood you hahahhaha great interview tho, very informative, I love Sylosis, josh is such a genius

The world needs a new Chimaira album produced by Josh Middleton! Make it happen, Rob!
That would be sick
Chimaira X Sylosis UK tour is the dream!
Two of my favourite guitarists from two of my favourite bands. This was such a great chat, you guys get along like you’ve been mates for years. The people want a Chimaira and Sylosis tour!
dream combo right there buddy !
Fuckin' A 🤘🏻
Oh yeah, it would be the perfect tour ^^
Yeah... This right here! I'm so there when it happens!
Rob, I'm not sure how aware you are of your and Chimaira's influence on heavy music. Some of the sickest riffs and an endless source of inspiration.
Seconded!!
👊
Josh Middleton has never failed to impress, he made the heaviest riffs ever in standard tuning.
With Chimaira, you could always expect an explosive package
Man you forgot pantera
@voidofhope6259 absolutely! I loved everythinf they did
They had a couple of great albums, but the bassist tried to diddle my girlfriend after a gig when we were 14/15 years old… puts me off a bit.
The the Riff Masters Riff Arnold and Josh Riffleton. Legends 🔥

Josh a riff master. Been listening to Sylosis since 2010. Yup to all that want a Chimaira and Sylosis tour. 🤘😆
None of the guitar nerd stuff you guys are talking about is boring. This is exactly why im listening to this whole podcast. Im a guitarist and wanna record at home so i love this kinda info. Appreciate you guys.

2 of my all time favorite guitarists sitting down to talk and I get to be a fly on the wall. 😁 what a time to be alive

Sylosis is criminally underrated. Dope ass band I’m glad you’re giving them some recognition
Hells yeah!!!

Not-so-humble brag: I owned both of their signature guitars together at one point. As well as other models discussed (H307, MH301).
I love that Sam! And I always enjoy hearing from you! 🤘

Also when Josh talked about showing off the riff to Walk without production I was dying lmao

Can't wait for the sydney show. Never seen sylosis before and I'm super stoked.. one of my favorite bands
You guys are probably the two biggest influences on my guitar playing, thank you!
What a surprise. Great interview. I got into Archetects during Josh's era. And loved his work with them.
Great chat here. Bring on the collaboration! It needs to happen!
Need to start a petition dude
What a great match. Two great guys in the metal world that also happen to be cool to listen to on UA-cam

Also, Sylosis is in my top 10 fav things to hear right now so great job getting him on
Chimaira and Sylosis touring Europe together would be a dream come true 🤘🤘🤘
Bought the JMii about 3 months ago.. it's amazing, will feature on my next album that is in the works.
Yes!!!! Love Josh and Sylosis!!! Thanks for this Rob!
2 of the best to ever do it and 2 of my very favorite guitarists. This is one for the ages!
I like Malevolence even more now that I know they jam Chimaira in their bus! I seen them this summer in Richmond, VA with Lamb of God. They where awesome! Super lineup Kerry King was amazing as well!
Well that was amazing. 2 of my guitar heroes together ❤️
This is so rad Rob!
The two rifflords in one video! What a treat. You guys should absolutely work together :D
I could listen to guitar nerd stuff all day.
Great video.
I just picked up MDL Tone Ultimate Heavy Drums. Josh did such an amazing job with it.

Legends chatting, great stuff. I'm in it for life too!
So, when's the Chi-losis tour happening?
good one

Killer interview!
My man reppin' Heriot, too. Just when I thought I couldn't love him more 🙌
Great interview. Great riff masters 🤘
Agreed
Two of my favourite guitarists on UA-cam talking nerdy. Christmas came late this year. 🎉 Cheers guys.
Loved this conversation between two of our favorite songwriters in the Metal music community. This ruled!
Very much enjoyed listening to these two legends talk. I grew up with Chimaira and am also a big Sylosis fan for a few years now
Man this was so interesting, fucking loved it ! 2 of my favorite players ever ! Love that josh is such a metalhead like so many of us !
Cool video as always.. especially the "and it's not over" statement at the end... Always cool to listen to real metalheads talk shop. Keep em coming!
Good stuff, Rob! Cheers!
Really enjoyed this one. Great chemistry and can see that you both could have gone on talking for way longer. Would love to see a tour with both bands! Maybe some day.
This is awesome. We like the nerdy stuff and want more \m/

Awesome Luke!🤘
Josh is one of those guys who inspires me to keep pushing on guitar. Thanks for getting this star player on Rob! You’re both super tight players.
Dude this was amazing!! Great job fellas
this got DEEP! Loved the nerdy chat boys, learnt a lot.
Excellent interview Rob! \,,/ It would be amazing to hear you two link up and write some brutal riffs!
Dude this was so great listening to you guys chat all things metal. UHD is awesome! Huge of fan of both your bands. Great video 🤘🏼
Great conversation!
Thank very much. 👍🏻👍🏻
That was great to listen to. So much knowledge can be learned from you two fellas 🤘
saw sylosis last november, here in london uk with heriot, darkest hour and fit for an autopsy
What a cool video, Josh’s guitar is sick. Very cool! I’ve been looking for a new one, this might be it!
It’s class to see Chimaira getting their legendary dues 🤘
Just two of the best out there! Great people! Major inspiration! Thanks guys!!!
I have the same hard time as Josh while singing and playing at the same, the rhythm right hand fuckes me up! btw Robb Flynn is the guy that always comes to my mind when doing crazy stuffs while playing and singing!
I loved this interview! Thank you for doing it. I have Joshes sigi and it is indeed awesome!
2 killer players love these interviews
2 Legends!
Two legendary metal musicians that just happened to become youtubers.
Subbed a long time now, love the content as always. Picked up Ultimate Heavy Drums last year when it released, amazing piece of kit and Josh seems like a great guy!
Hell yeah, awesome interview!!
Oh shit I am loving that Nekbreakker album..
You both rule! I listened to shitloads of Chimaira and Sylosis in the 2000s to 2010s. This is sick
I wish STL tones would make something similar to the Quad cortex so we could download Josh’s presets and whatnot that would be dope
I came across Sylosis on Dormant Heart album. Josh is a monster on guitar and vocals.
So when you said “the ride ain’t over”… does that mean we may possibly have some hope for a future of Chimaira? I know a couple festival shows lined up (hopefully Louder Than Life) but maybe new music?
Only time will tell!
Been liking The Heriot stuff too!
A collaboration between u two would be sick! maybe Josh on the new Chimaira album.
Im so pissed I missed that Cleveland show. 😤 work work work
EPICNESS
So sick 🔥
Liked this before even watching it.
Hopefully you did afterwards as well!👊

SYLOSIS - Heavy Is The Crown - Bloodstock 2022 playing an LTD....dont see that often with bands...
Heriot!
I bet you two together would write some BADASS fuckin tunes….ya both have some insane riffs
I had a brand new ltd with a hipshot bridge, wasn't feeling it at all, sold it and bought an old Dkmgt jackson with the tune-o-matic.
Two riff goats on one show? Yeah, I’ll watch

Not nervous, just excited!
Take a drink everytime josh lipsmacks

Talking effortlessly and doing everything at once would be Adam D from Killswitch Engage 😂
Love Adam, guys so talented as well. A riff monster!
Did you fast forward your voice at times or am I stroking out?
You're stroking out!
@ lol thanks I’ll make sure to see a Dr
When are youguys gona do a song together?
@37:00 totally agree about the guitar riffs these days not being meaningful or thoughtful. its too much about sync of timing to be another layer of the song, rather than the talented groovy dynamic layer I think it should be again. the guitarist basically makes the bands sound, drummers are expendable lol
