It looks miles better than my previous BMW 3 series. The interior of the XE that I sat in felt more premium in all the important areas, you would have to look in some hard to see places to find anything lesser. It's comfortably best in class for me, the other cars all feel like old dears transport, Jag is the younger persons choice.
I bought an XE in December and am delighted with the performance. I do agree however that it is difficult to get in as the roof is very low and I am amazed that the wing mirrors do not fold back. The boot is smaller but I can just get my Golf gear in with no further room. However, I am getting 55 miles to the gallon and acceleration is fantastic. Mine is an Automatic and am really pleased overall. Well done Jaguar.
My XE feels and drives better than any BMW. The interior is very comfortable and I like the layout of all the dials along with the setup of the tech (GPS, RADIO ETC.) it does have very limited space in the back which is a shame. But it drives like a dream. I’ve had Lexus IS250’s since 2006 but this year I went out on a limb due to the great warranty they offer and it’s well priced. Also it’s better looking than the 250 or the BMW. Comes down to personal preference in the end. So far no complaints, feels solid and very well put together. Cheers
Its a good review but.... why go to so much trouble to knock the X-Type. The X-Type is a great car and I love mine. Its got character which a lot of euroboxes don't have. The XE is a great car also in its own right. It doesn't need comparing to anything other than its current rivals and I happen to think its better that the gerry built bland boxes by a very long way.
Being a tech I’ve driven a vast majority of German cars and they are superb. The A4 and Mercedes c class have excellent interiors, while the 3 series has an ultra sharp chassis with a great engine range (not the 2.0 diesel). I’ve had two XE’s now, a 2015 180hp R sport diesel. It served me well. Passed the look back test with flying colours every time. (Italian racing red with 19” black venom’s) Now has a 2019 r sport 25t which is even better. The Germans cars have a lot to offer but I’d still always buy the Jaguar.
The xtype still looks better than the 3, c class, a4 is300 g35 all from that same time frame. Especially the black sport version. The nav was better than a lot of recent cars and looked nicer places in dash than the new "on dash" look
On what planet does a C class Mercedes have 'better cabin ambience'? You've seen inside a C class before, right? It's like being inside a 1990s AIWA hi-fi system.
I don't think you like Jaguars, such a negative reviews from you. This is a beautiful car, inside and out in my opinion. Just seemed like you're trying to find anything and everything negative about this car.
+honestjohncouk Ford Mondeo mk3 and also mk2 have a beautiful chasis if you don't know, have you ever see the Mondeo st220 ? It was presented even in Top Gear
The original Mondeo was a brilliant drive. As were the Fiesta's and Focus' of that day and IMO better than the respective Fiesta, Focus' and Mondeos of today. Thus that platform was very good. Better than many above it.
I wouldn't have thought so. Wont be the market for it. Not many Americans would want a manual. Or a 'stick shift' as you call it. Besides, auto suits this type of car much more than a manual
Good review. I'm currently considering trading my 2018 Mazda CX-5 in for a 2016 XE with 50,000 Kms on the clock with warranty and Motorplan until August next year. I'm still not sure it's a good trade though as they will trade my CX-5 straight out for the XE with now pay in.
I love the way it looks, but it seams to me that this XE is a bit of a compromise. It's like the Porsche Cayman of Jaguar: they could have made it a lot better, but they didn't want to overshadow the XF). Also I hope Jaguar got their act together regarding fit and finish!
I am some what confused at the video I have the XF s 3.0 D for a car that almost 2 ton in weight the engine will take it to 60mph in 5.9 seconds. I am 5'10" and there I plenty of room in both the front and the rear for long and short drives. As for the boot I had a full set of golf clubs and an electric trolley with space to spare. Which makes me think you have a dislike of jaguar and are a German car lover.
This is an XE, not an XF. And yeah, I'm a German car lover but only because they're generally better. If Jaguar could make better cars, I'd be a Jaguar lover too. I have no reason to be biased for or against anything.
@@HonestJohncouk2000 All I can say is I think you are biased. But then so am I. I dont have an XE but a 4.2 XF and i wouldn't swap it for an ugly BMW (that everyone and their mum's got) or an overrated Merc. Also I dont get all this rubbish about the cheaper plastics on the lower doors. That area is nothing more that a kick plate. I can just imagine all the tears the people who constantly moan about this will produce when they or someone else scrapes a nice tear in the leather or soft fake leather that they prefer for that area. Ever had a car door swing back unexpectedly and you've just got your foot out? sometimes all you can do is put your foot up to stop the door. My misses high heels seem to love that area too. And lets not forget my old mum trying to get out the back with her walking stick used as a prop for the door. I would agree it didn't sound good when you knocked it, but then, I wouldn't be put off buying a car just because the lower doors had a cheaper type of plastic in an area that is constantly kicked. My old XJS had something that looked like carpet in that area if I remember correctly. Just thinking about that flawed 5.3Lt gem makes me tear me up. All I am saying is that its an area that is easily cleaned and buffed and unless you have an errant child that sets about the lower doors with a claw hammer (in which case the child would have to go) is resistant to lots of abuse.
Have my XE one year now car drives beautifully and is very economic but as for interior space not a family car at all. Seat belts are so awkward to put on and if you have a child seat in it's impossible to get the seatbelt connected without having to push the chair over to the door. Engine can be noisy from start. Seals on the doors seem inadequate as the door sills get very dirty. My car does not have fold down rear seats I discovered this after my purchase and on my enquiry was told it was an extra for an extra cost, (even a Kia Rio has fold down seats) also wing mirrors do not fold unless you pay more than €200 to have this done.
Have been looking for one of these for a long time now. previous cars have been 3 series (both in which the turbos blew up). Needed a drastic change and watched this video and was kind of put off a little by the review. Low and behold, when I eventually found the perfect match for me..it was this exact car in the video. I guess it was meant to be, and everything is perfect..inside and out are far superior to any 3 series I've had, and the drive is out of this world. Do have to accept the point of the plastic trims around the doors, but that's only for holding old chewing gum wrappers and parking tickets.
It's a Tata in Jag Drag! And "Piano Black" is Tata's fancy word for Cheap Black Plastic! My 03 S Type V8 was an excellent car I never had a problem with it. I bought a 2012 XF Supercharged V8 Portfolio Edition and it's been a total POS and waste of money! I have spent thousands of dollars for repairs for the horrible car. Water pump, fuel pump twice, rear deck latch, $2000+ computer. And then at 84k miles and having never getting hot or over heated it blew the head gasket! This came with a repair bill of $10,000+ because not only did it damage the head it damaged the block and would require an entire engine replacement. The car had been very well maintained at all times. It can be found on a car lot who knows where because I poured Head Gasket Sealer from Auto Zone in it and traded it I on a Lincoln MKS Eco-boost AWD sedan. Before you buy a Tata check out a Lincoln! It's a much nicer car!
It's a Tata wearing a Jaguar badge. It's not just the XE but the XF and XJ series as well. I drove a new XE as a loaner for 3 weeks when my 2012 XF Supercharged V8 Portfolio Edition was in the shop for one of it's many visits. Tata has cheapened down the quality so badly the are ruining JLR. You don't even get leather interior or wood trim. You get Leatherette and Piano Black, translation. Cheap Plastic interior. Prior to my XF I had a 03 S Type it was one of the best cars I'd ever owned. So I had no reservations about buying another Jaguar. Big mistake on my part, I've spent $1,000's on repairs. Very sad because I really did love the car in the beginning. I'll be trading it in ASAP. I'm sick of the maintenance costs. $1,400 for a water pump. $380 for a trunk lock, $2,000+ for a computer, $1,360 for a fuel pump. And now I'm told at 80k miles I need new motor and transmission mounts. I told the shop: if it catches on 🔥 don't put it out!
Poor driver visibility due to A pillar, and narrow rear window. Seating for rear passengers limited as is headroom. Interior not as nice quality as reviewer claims. Not is it that good looking. Has not changed my decision on a 3, which in LCI form is excellent
So i've now had this car for the best part of 2 years now, and i cant fault it. Thought i should update a few things though that arent exactly true about the review. 75 mpg even with an automatic, just isnt realistic (dealers words, not mine). Secondly the phone app that your using, doesnt give all the features you've explained in the review. I can only get the basic information from the Jag app, and it certainly doesnt allow me to set temperatures etc as you've (quickly skimmed over) on the f type app. Just thought i should clarify those minor details. Cant fault it for performance, but will only add a slight negative i have found...Adblue!! Seems to drink it for fun. I understand im doing my bit for the environment, but i'd be cheaper paying Road Tax.
Interior is not that great, some strange sounds coming from plastics, you can't really see anything from driver seat around you apart from front view. Because it's not anymore British car the quality went down.
+owen treadgold Dont buy one new!! I am buying one in April as the first registered owner, 1,800 miles on the clock - portfolio spec with 15k worth of extras for 32,000 !!
I fully agree with this review. A cheap, nasty finish inside the cramped cabin, with hard plastics, sharp edges and a low-rent feel. The Indians have had to cut costs by buying the cheapest components as the company loses £360 million per year, kept afloat only by profits from LR. The unreliability of JLR products means they're at the bottom of every table. The depreciation is shocking. I can't find anything to like with this car.
BMWs are faaaar to comment nowdays jag looks so much nicer inside & out i went for the manual.....really should of checked this out sooner lol i just find automatic cars boring and dont feel like your doing much i think autos take the fun out of it
Uninspiring in the flesh. Looks very ordinary. And yes, really a dull interior. Too much hype with the "3 series beater". Definitely not as good to drive as the F30, too soft IMO.
It looks miles better than my previous BMW 3 series. The interior of the XE that I sat in felt more premium in all the important areas, you would have to look in some hard to see places to find anything lesser.

The gloss plastic looks cheap.
I think Jaguar Land Rover is far better than BMW and Mercedes. I have used all these cars and I think Jaguar Land Rover is the best...

The X-Type is a glory: gorgeous inside and out, and technically a triumph. The XE is a worthy successor.

I don't get why people criticise the ford chasis, even though at the time the mondeo was mainly praised for its good chasis

Not sure what interior you expect. It is definitively more exciting than for example the BMW series 3 and 5.
Nope. XE interior is akin to Avensis.
Very, very good looking car, I love British style and design.
Its Indian brand after 2008

I agree, l had 4x x-types (used) & loved them all & despite awaiting delivery of 1st (used) XE, l miss them. Lets hope the XE doesn't disappoint
Is a 4 year old one of these with about 70k miles on the reliable or do they have issues?

great looking car, except why did they use a 1/2 jag 1/2 audi cut n shut in the review? or is the back meant to look exactly like an audi
+maltesephil It also looks a little like the seventh-generation Honda Accord from behind.

XE or indeed XF over the German rivals every time.
If you combed your hair back or forward you'de have another two inches on the headroom!

was this review primarily aimed at the homosexual market? need to get me one of those belts (no homo)

The XE is a bland, poorly made, cost cut pile of junk with a nice-ish chassis. And it has failed to sell any more than the X-Type did.
