- Tom was only 17 years old when he began construction of his tiny house on wheels. Amazingly, he was able to complete his project for an astounding £6,000 (under US$8k). Now at 20 years old, he is living debt free in his very own home. If you enjoy our videos, please consider supporting us on Patreon: / livingbig
The tiny house movement in England is starting to really gain momentum, as house prices drive people towards alternative living. Tom is a pioneer in the movement, being one of the first in the country to build a tiny home.
This tiny house was really fun to tour. It reminds me very much of some of the early home tours from New Zealand and Australia when the movement was getting started. This is a grass roots movement which is ready to explode in the UK and I'm excited to see where it leads. I hope you enjoy the full tour of this wonderful home built by an inspiring young man!

We are back! So happy to be kick starting our 2020 tour series with this incredible home, built on a budget by an inspiring young man in England. It's so exciting to now be able to share some homes from Europe with you all. Tom's story is really inspiring. Now at 20 years old, he has set himself up for a great start to life! I hope you enjoy this tour of his wonderful home. It's great to be back! With love, Bryce & Rasa
Was waiting for this. First 2020 video.
Living Big In A Tiny House Awesome👍 I‘m from Germany and I love to see tiny houses in Europe !
Hi
Thats really cool. I've started to build my tiny house but using no trailer but a 1986 Ford School bus conversion fully off grid home for myself and 2 pups
Bryce you're looking particularly handsome here. Another great vid
I’m 16 and proud when I put an ikea chair together so this is pretty amazing

Love you that's great

Why is everyone putting the man down. He was 17 when he started this. Bet the majority of you couldn't build or finish shit even with instructions and help.
Most of them can’t even build an IKEA table
@Pingu Wetone (yawn)
For real! I think its so cool!
Jealousy! They just wish they had done the same thing at that age and they are probably drowning in house debt! When some people are down, they can't handle to see another succeeding and instead of learning, they choose to bash!

I’m so happy for the tiny home movement, because it’s enabled a lot of people to own their own home, instead of paying out of control rent, at least in the US! And the regular size homes are too expensive to purchase also.
🤣🤣🤣
This is incredible, I can't believe anyone would give this a thumbs down. This young man has got a lot of skill and talent. Recycling materials and producing something to be proud of. I'm so impressed.
Thumbs down are jeleaus clowns 😂
The most impressive part about this is how he built a system on the house that collects rainwater, filters it, and uses it for the showers and stuffs. That's awesome

Wurst Brot pathetic is a bit harsh. I think it’s impressive that he built it from scratch, but yeah, not quite his ‘own place’ as was claimed. He’s built a glorified shed in his grandparents’ garden.
You guys need to relax. He is 17!!

It’s land that he owns though, inherited from his grandparents. He also set up the plumbing and electricity himself, it’s very impressive.
At least he’s financially independent. He gets to live life on the easy road.
I doubt he’d live in this forever. He’ll most likely expand it and make it larger when it comes to having a family and such.
Stay salty with your mortgages!
if only the world would have more people like this young man. Happy, humble, energetic and with an incredible mindset ready for the future that the world need. Great job indeed!
I don t think Tom may yet realize how absolutely awesome his paid for home is! He is living what most just dream about! Wisdom far beyond his years! Very Well Done, Tom! Thankyou Bryce for bringing this joyful inspiration to millions!
I think I’m gonna start a channel called “Tiny Living in a Big House” that features mansions and the stressed out and depressed people who live in them.
@Justin Chaney what an excellent concept. I'm sure you'll have quite a lit of subs!
I'd sub

Hahahahhaha let us know if you do it!
yeah people really love watch others suffer dont they xD
What a lad. An old spirit in a young body. A person who knows how to work with his hands, and build things for himself. I wish him nothing but the best.
I'm amazed how beautiful Tom's house is! 6000 GBP is impossibly cheap for a nearly full-fledged home like his. I'm 22 and already feeling a bit uncomfortable about the depth of planning such a project might require, but this talented person started doing it from the age of 17. The interior is so cozy and inviting. I really am blown away with the result. Kudos to Tom!
I love this! I am a 14 year old myself, and I plan on saving my own money to build a rustic tiny house so I can live off grid in the woods of Alaska! That would be a dream come true for me, a life of solitary and peace is the lifestyle for me! Well done!
I’m also 14 and I would also love to build a tiny house!

@White Pride You still live with your parents, don't you?
It's more that it's selling a myth, 'a lifestyle choice for JUST 6k' but pays no mind to the fact that you need to own land to build it first, it's like all these guys putting out vids on erecting shelters in woodland, like "c'mon you lazy lot get out and do this yourself" but it's always on daddys sprawling acres, try felling trees yourself and enjoy the stars through your cell window
Anyone can build a tiny house - it's really not that complicated. But then most people have nowhere to put it... which is the real big obstacle, and one that's been conveniently side-stepped. Can you cut wood, screw it together, connect pipes, connect wires? Of course, anyone can. Can you easily get some land where a mobile home is permitted? Probably not. Can you afford to take time off work, and find a convenient place to build it? Probably not. It might look overly negative when you're trying really, really hard to be "nice", but it seems to me that most of the commenters here are living in the real world where things don't fall into your lap.
Just a glorified shed lol,, 🤠
@@simonrichards150 You're an ignorant if you think it's only cutting wood and connecting pipes...

There are tens of millions of people who have had the same chance as him (with land) and chose to get high, get drunk, get someone pregnant, play video games, or any of thousands of other excuses to do nothing towards their future..... I’m betting you can name five, and your name might be on that list......
The government should build tiny homes like this for all the homeless veterans....
Agree
123 Data!
Close but WRONG, The government should reopen state and federal lands for use with THE HOMESTEAD ACT, and for veterans maybe kick in a bit for building materials instead of making US (yes, I have almost 30 years in) get huge loans from banks....
In 2009 I wrote emails to over a dozen members of congress suggesting the reopening of the homestead act, at least for retirees and disabled veterans, and pointing out that retirees from the French foreign legion (only takes 15 years with the legion before you can retire) all get a tiny chalet with enough land to grow their own food on... unless they instead request to retire to the vineyards and winery that the legion own (it was donated)... many of the legionaries with bad PTSD stay at the winery as they have their comrades there at all times to help them with their issues.... I wish the American Army had a winery for me to retire to..... back to the emails, NONE of the members of congress liked the idea,it probably has something to do with that guaranteed loan for a big house but only if I stay in the workforce and get some damned job u til the loan is paid off (thirty more fucking years).... cause banks pay congresstards, why else would congress have bailed out the banks but not forced the banks to apply that money towards mortgages? Remember, when the congress bailed out the banks with taxpayer money, they encouraged the banks to evict the taxpayers thathad paid the taxes used to bail out those banks..... Congress was criminal in that!
But then they wouldn’t be homeless veterans and just veterans. Doesn’t have the same ring tbh
123 Data! Bold of you to assume the government gives a shit about veterans or humans in general
Why not just make small homes for everyone
This is incredible and so inspiring! I'm amazed at Tom's tenacity to just go for it and stick through it! Thank you for sharing ❤️

I wouldn’t say it’s because of his talent, the house is great. It’s the fact he’s living in his (grand)parents backyard. Most people want to move out, not live in a “glorified shed next to your parents” as was stated by another comment I read.

So what, it’s in parent’s garden? It’s still self sufficient and not depending on anything from main house.
This boy will 100% be successful, you can just tell.
nnennem Correct, but slightly. It seems he failed to mention cost of maintenance, electric, plumbing, etc. monthly, as well as other costs such as food/insurance, etc. Most likely for a reason, because it’s not cheap. He lives in a house, badass. Does he pay mortgage on the property? Nope, that’s his grandparents. Does he have his own insurance? Still on their property, so he probably has them pay it. There’s a WHOLE lot you’re missing, he can build a house, that’s nice. But he isn’t self-sustainable in the slightest yet. Good day.
You’re so right I can’t believe the amount of hate this guys getting

It peeves me how we have forgotten how to get back to the basics. I remember building my own house how I had to struggle with the contractors and engineers to use basic functional components and everyone told me its not fashionable. This is really an inspiration. I was blessed watching this.
This is impressive. To anyone that says it isn't, go be a party pooper somewhere else.
He put hard work into this. Also not to mention that many people would be thankful to have a place like this. It has all the necessities, but it just isn't fancy. Not everyone wants fancy.

I don’t understand why everyone’s being so negative towards this young man his achieved something most people couldn’t do! Why does everyone has to mention his grandparents land? They most likely worked hard for what they have just like this young man I wish people wouldn’t be so negative and would be more supportive.
I think if it was billed as "20 year old builds a shed he can live in, in his grandparents' back garden" it would be fine. Instead it's implying he has a fully paid-off property like a normal house, when it's not, being both impractical and not even a legal address. The other implication, that anyone could do the same, is obviously misleading too, unless they also had relatives happy to give them land and access for free as well. As for what he has built, yes it's an amazing little project, let down by a lack of storage space and the doorless toilet being right next to the kitchen.
Because the land is expensive and the video is framing it as if anyone could do this with 6k and hard work. Most people dont get gifted a large ammount of land in a desirable UK city. Expensive.
Most people couldn't achieve this because of the land
Because they’re jealous.

He is the living definition of self-reliance, perseverance and self-confidence !👍🏼👍🏼 Respect !! This kind of focus and resolve, All that when he was just in his late teens!!
His family must be very proud of him😀
first of all, this house is GORGEOUS inside and out and that kitchen absolutely blew me away (the backtile...?!?! speechless.) second of all, the way your cinematography flows and properly matched up with the audio, always impressed me. incredible shots matched with incredible minds backing the production. truly my favorite Tiny Home channel!!!
When the coronavirus gets to bad I’m going out in the woods and building one of these
Big J nah ur gonna need to build that dirt hut from primitive technology
no one outruns Captain Trips!
In the fucking woods 😂 you going to buy that land first! This lad is probably in his mums garden
Daniel Cannon lmao
Just go to greenland
My comments are often critical of some homes but this, this is a result I can really appreciate. This is exactly what I really think of when I imagine a tiny home. I know it's a "to each their own" situation but this young man has created an exceptional result and with the use of good ol' recycled pallets, slabs, fighting a wasp nest, and the good fortune to have the grandparents land. The aluminium joinery and larch wood look fabulous. Good work Tom, you've got a bright future ahead of you.
I've somehow missed this one, watching over the last few years. Not only a British one, but we're actually in Bristol too.
We watch this show and despair at how so many of the family ones actually have more useable space in a smaller footprint than our family of 5 does in our badly designed rented 3 bed 1938 end of terrace.
Even the 5% deposit mortgages are out of reach when most starter family homes are £250,000+ and you already have your family and rent is 45% of your income with 2 working. There's nothing left to save.
Most 3 bed rents are £1000 up in Bristol. I'm delighted this man has looked ahead and can get his apprenticeship done, qualify himself, work and save. I despair as to how we will enable our children to own their own home in this culture, when we can't even give them that in our 30s/40s.
Hopefully the tiny home movement will grow here and the British stigma towards living on vehicles like converted buses will change in time for them.
Love you Bryce thank u for all the tiny houses you have visited. I have enjoyed every one of them
I'm more naive than I thought because I'm genuinely shocked that there are negative comments on this.
It's really disappointing, isn't it? So many begrudgers. Thankfully I think the positive comments are now outnumbering the negative.
Zora Johnson me too and I feel bad for the guy if he’s reading these comments, he really doesn’t deserve it
Wish kids were all like him. Refusing to be in debt is a way to live
This is a great way, but you try and find land or anywhere to put it, and if you do, the price goes up an up .
If grandparents had all land like this, that might be a possibility.
Phiology wish adults were all like him too
Yes! I’m 42 and just figuring this out. College is great but so are trades. If he invests well and works hard he will be able to retire at 55 or younger and/or work part time after that. Lucky kid.
Debt is great for leverage. If you take some debt to finish uni to get a high paying job, then there's no problem paying it back. Or to buy an apartment that you can afford to pay the monthly payments. Problem is dumb people not knowing simple mathematics and being reckless.
What an amazing young man, how incredibly inventive and resourceful for one so young. Your imagination, foresight and focus should take you a long way. Thankyou so much for sharing and good luck going forward, I can see a great future ahead of you. Bless you
This young men already wining in life.👍🏻👍🏻
So many jealous people. He is blessed to have grandparents that help him. He’s obviously not a bum.
So true brother, this young kid has motivated me to do some DIY work at my house!
Ole Hillshire i don’t think anybody is “jealous”.He owns a trailer with a very nice shed built on top of it. It’s hardly a home.
You offended gutter people
Big Lobowski78 Still pretty impressive though 🤷🏻♀️
Monica Be hmm. I’d be surprised if a carpenter/ apprentice carpenter couldn’t build a shed from starch. Work on site for a month. You’d be surprised what you’ll pick up. Not trying to be a cynic. It is what it is
He is brilliant and definitely a example for other people his age. His house is beautiful!
@John Smith Your'e a complete waste.
So nice!! I’m a truck driver of many years and live in my truck most of the time so that seems like a mansion in comparison. I feel like it takes much less space than people realize to live and be comfortable. Really great job!!
Admirable young man, creative, courageous and fun.
Honestly Bryce, you should makes a lot more videos like this one
He's sooooo inspiring
17 years old and already make his own house with he's own money
As a fellow Brit, this lad does us proud, tea-sipping and all!

The only thing he didn’t show is where he stores his clothes etc.
Did he show a washing machine?
Cool yikes
you know he pops to his nans every night for his dinner and to collect his freshly washed clothes.
JW it’s in the basement with the kids
I love this kid, really talented and dedicated to his craft God bless him
i clicked this video cos i saw the £ sign in the title, in hopes this would be a video set in england.
i was excited when i saw that not only is this house in my country, but in my city! beautiful home
The English countryside is extraordinarily beautiful! Well done to this guy for building a fantastic home.

@@lordksisroyalprotector6554 why wouldn't you? lmao silly question
Its all about money.
Keep trying. I believe in you hehe
You gotta stack them on top of each other
God damn, what a legend, when I was 17 and was stealing road signs! Great stuff!
lol
The police wants to know your location
For a 17 year old and an apprentice who had to build with what little money you earned, this is amazing. You are right housing is very expensive in England and for any one to buy a house is difficult, especially young people starting out. You should be proud of yourself. Luckily your grand parents had their own land in which to let you stay there. Now that is a plus point as you could take your time to build your dream. I wish you the very best in your little house and future.
