UA-cam comments are at present disabled in our channel, to the displeasure of some. However, each video has a prominent link to the associated open thread that appears on our blog. In the past we've tried opening up the channel to comments, but we found that a very high number of episodes wound up being flooded with a combination of spam, long winded apologists, and various obscene or misogynistic comments directed at various hosts by people with an axe to grind. This seems to be the nature of UA-cam comment sections, in our experience.
We do moderate the blog, the same way that we moderate chat during the show, as well as comments on our Facebook group. For comment sections that are "officially" associated with our show (and, to a much lesser extent, channels that may give the unintended appearance of being official), we prefer not to play host to straight up ad hominem attacks and bigotry. As a general policy we do not block commenters simply on the basis of disagreement with our point of view. However, we do prefer discussion environments that don't actively chase off more reasonable contributors.

WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?
The Atheist Experience is a weekly cable access television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

Eric's deliberate refusal to understand what Matt and Tracie are saying, and then strawmanning them, is infuriating. His debate tactics are so dishonest, even flat out lying at times. I don't know why the hosts tolerate him for more than 10 seconds.
I think it’s because Eric’s stance and tactics are so common it is actually worth it to argue on some level. Maybe by pointing out his arguments flaws will help others... hopefully

Then asserting that it doesn’t make scientific sense that something can come from nothing. Well sure but if you used the scientific definition of nothing, then it does make sense scientifically.

For all those who don't know, the whole Eric thing is an epic that surfaces several times in the Atheist Experience universe. This is the second call. The first call had Eric challenging Matt to a debate, and the call went on for something like 30 minutes. Eventually, Eric and Matt actually debated on a podcast for something like 3 hours
I tried watching that debate, I didn't make it half way through. Eric's dishonesty was just too frustrating.
I cannot believe Matt put himself through that torture of trying to reason with this dishonest, arrogant ignoramus.
What a petty human being Eric is. He is soooo worried what people think of him. He brings up the comments about him people put on the chat and to the AE videos repeatedly. He is a buffoon who couldn't put together one original thought. He keeps going back to authority. I do not care if Loftus is on 'my side', his belief about non-being isn't what informs my beliefs about non-being, whatever that is. Think for yourself, Eric, and quit worrying about what everyone else thinks about you. What an ego he has. Wow.
Cause and effect are Newtonian concepts. SR, GR, and QM left that idea behind long ago.

Calls: 4:15 Frank (former catholic, changing churches). 9:17 - 37:20 Eric (christian, defending his previous call discussing nothing/non-being, specified complexity, defensive/argumentative, wants to "win" his point). 39:50 Mario (Democratic Convention). 43:58 Mark (response to previous caller about cause and effect, constructive criticism, god of the gaps). 56:55 Adam (his spiritual atheist girlfriend).
Believer: Your Relationship with god is simply a profound and dynamic relationship with the self, with your ego. This is why god can seem so very real to you. In a sense he is real. He is you. This is why god's opinions are so very often your opinions. This is why two believers of the same religion can both claim to agree with god's opinion but not with each others. When you pray and god gives you answers you are the source of those intuitions. You are simply having a conversation with yourself and don't even realize it. This is why god can always assuage any doubts of the believer. You see, "God" knows exactly how you think because he is you. He knows your tastes, your biases and all the gaps in your logic. Therefore it follows that "he" knows what arguments you will find compelling and what mental gymnastics you are capable of to ignore any arguments to the contrary. Ironically I probably can't convince you of anything I stated above because of the very fact that it is in fact true. You are "god".

How many believers believe in the religion of their choice by cosmology, astronomy, mathematics, quantum physics.....? And if you have to be all of those things to understand your god, then your god is obviously not good at proving his or her existence and is most likely a human made creation.

Why don't they ask Eric where God is from and how he came into existence?
From my experience with theists the conversation would go something like this:
Eric: "Something can't come from nothing, and you can't have an infinite regress"
Matt: "So where did god come from?"
Eric: "God always existed"
Matt: "You said everything has to be created by an intelligence, if so, who created god?"
Eric: "Nobody created god, he always existed"
ad infinitum
Even if he could demonstrate a god created the universe, he would then leap to, "therefor, jesus is our lord and savior", no, just no.
When they say the god always existed, then you can just say, so did the universe=no gods needed. Then they usually disappear ^^
God might not be the creator. Perhaps there are millions of supernatural beings and any one of them could be the creator. If you find a watch on a beach that has no labels, without further information, you have no idea who made it. Was it God? Was it Eric ? Was it Bill ? You don't know.
Eric needs to, "go ahead," and get a more robust vocabulary.
No one has ever seen dna created. Dna is its own special thing. If you say dna is a code, you ignore everything else about it. It has a physical form, it is a chemical, etc.
You cant say ever say codes or intormation only come from intelligence, and use that to explain that dna.
Its like saying god communicates with you directly, yet you only know that through the bible.
To compare the 2, saying only intelligence creates codes, ignores the chemical and etc about dna.
Just like saying god communicates directly, means you ignore that it came from the bible passed on through people.
Dna is a mixture of things that have never come from intelligence

If you base individual personalities on what day and what time of day a person is born on, then I could put a pregnant woman on a jet and fly her to a different time zone - based on the fact that astrological signs have very specific day cutoffs - and I could control what Star Sign that kid is born under.
Also, what happens when daylight saving time is in place? If a kid is born in the "transitional hour", on the change day of their starsign, which starsign are they?
And this somehow leads to the resurrection of Jesus😂
