Yeeeaaahhhhhh! So happy you got the sub 45:30. Loved the commentary throughout. You keep referring to the others around you as strong runners - count yourself in that group too. Your progress has been awesome to watch. Enjoy the double cookie!😂
Cheers mate! I guess I did manage to overtake a few of those strong runners, so I'll take that as a good sign. Onto the half marathon next :) The cookies didn't last long!
Cheers, Jess! Looking back, I think those noises were quite prevalent all over the place, not just from people I was running past. I guess I'm too shy for doing much more than the inevitable heavy breathing most of the time! :)
I typically do my long runs alone because when I get tired my autistic ticks begin to get more exxagerated and I'm a bit self conscious about them! But gradually finding people to run with occasionally who don't really mind when I start flapping and making strange noises 😆
WOHOOOOO!!!! PB!!!! BRAVO BRAVO!!! It's always such a hoot getting a PB and makes all the suffering worth it ... after the fact of course!!😂 That was an exercise in pacing Mark, perfectly executed, BRAVO!!! I don't think anyone is groaning 'cause you passed them, though, they're just groaning!!! In their own little pain cave, especially in those conditions... unseasoned runners would be taking the rain tough!!! I'm a bit of a groaner myself, though more the odd loud high-pitched WHOAO outbreath!!😂😂 I often end up running even faster in the rain too with that added motivation to get it over with!!😂
Thanks, Bev! I think you might be right about the groaning noises. I guess I can't hear the grunts and huffing and puffing while I'm behind people, so I just hear it as I go past. I'm usually just doing heavy breathing myself! There was definitely motivation to get it over with, especially when the big downpour kicked in :)
Wow, what a race, Mark! You totally nailed that classic race-day vibe of pushing through, soaked, tired, but smashing your target by 5 seconds, even in the rain! You absolutely earned those two cookies at the end 😂
Brilliant! Well done Mark! Hope you’ve dried off and enjoyed your 2 cookies 🍪 Looks like I got the correct answer on the poll 😁 Well done on again on your 10k pb 🎉
Thanks a lot mate! I'm thinking I might need to get a bit used to racing in crappy weather given that my next two events are in October and November lol.
Thanks mate! I'm surprised how well the pacing has been going lately, especially as my target times always involve a bit of guesswork as to what I might be capable of on the day :)
Great pacing Mark! It looked like a soggy one on the day 🌧 Really pleased to see it went so well, you are proving that AI can actually help us all in our training 👏 Nice strong finish as well 🏃♂
Cheers Martin 👍 I loved it. I remembered your point about goal creep, but thankfully on this occasion the 30 seconds I moved the goal by was just about doable. It was very soggy though! 😂
You absolutely smashed it out the park Mark 🎉🎉🎉🎉 I bet it took some real courage to not sit on the bench in the finish straight 🤣🤣 Thoroughly deserved mate 👊👊
Cheers mate! :) The bench was very tempting LOL. There was no stopping me after starting my sprint down the hill though, especially on the wet roads! Thanks a lot, and hope you guys are doing well.
Terrific training and racing, Mark. Congrats on the PB and consistently beating your target K splits. The rain and puddles definitely added time, so even more impressive.
Thanks, Reto :) I'm enjoying this phase of my running where I've still got plenty of room for improvement, and I can realistically get PBs with some consistent work.
Great stuff Mark. Well done on the result and the video. I think the lad in green wanted to be on UA-cam. The motorist who tooted probably saw the blonde lady in the grey shorts in front of you at the time. The groans as you passed people were the other runners thinking "I must be having a bad day if this old guy is passing me". Great bit of voice over.
Thanks, Peter. It turned out well on the day, and I enjoyed the race despite the sogginess! That lad in green was definitely video bombing me lol. I'll have to try some grey shorts next time, see if I get any attention :) You could be onto something with the groans. How embarrassing for them, to have me come "zooming" past 😂 Cheers mate!
Smashed it in those conditions !! Well done 💥🥳 Dry course you be even quicker. If it's any consolation think it pretty much rained everywhere on Sunday. I did Vale of York 10k and contemplated staying in car at one point 😅 looks forward to seeing your progression
Thanks, Vicky! I'm glad the worst of the rain kicked in later in the race, or I might have stayed in the car myself :) Hope you enjoyed Vale of York. I do like York, so I'd like to look at that one in future.
Yay! Well done, Lorna. Thanks a lot. I'm enjoying my little run of success at the moment. Might look at the Spire again for next year if I'm still feeling good after all these road races.
Well done Mark, great running in not so great conditions. I’ve done a few of the Run Through events local to where I am, I’ve found them really good events and well organised.
Thanks! I seem to do Run Through events almost by accident a lot of the time. I search for a race, and it turns out it's one of theirs. They do a very good job.
Well done Mark, very strong performance and very well executed, building pace every km. The rain looked awful in km7 and 100m of elevation to cope with too. Just imagine what you’d do at the Manchester 10K, that’s really flat🚀 And unbelievable crowd support all around the course😊
Thanks, Andy! This pacing style really seems to suit me. Struggling a little bit in km 8 and 9, but we expect that :) Manchester sounds awesome. Might be one to consider when the PBs dry up on the local hilly races...
Great job. Mansfield looked particularly glamorous in the autumn gloom and rain. Actually the Market Place looked pretty decent. Do you find the Pace Pro helps psychologically as you just focus on the km (in your case) that you're in? I have a HM on Sunday and was going to make it a 13 x 1 mile session with zero recovery. I tend to set a pace range (will be 6:50 to 7:10 in this case) but it still gives me a current number to focus on.
It's all about the glamour! :) Some of the nicest puddles in Nottinghamshire, apparently... I think the Pace Pro does have that effect. Whatever pace I'm doing, I just have to do it for 1km, and then it's like a new challenge begins for the next one. The slower start seems to suit me at the moment, just building into it and conserving some energy for later on.
Cheers mate! You see, it's not always sunny over here lol. I wore the old Takumi Sen 8's for the race. I'd only had chance to do one easy run in the new PUMAs, so I'm going to give them a go in the half marathon next month, once I've got used to them and trust them to be ok. Will try a speed session in them tomorrow and see how we go :)
Great run Mark and those conditions looked horrible too! Big congrats on getting your target. Good to see you stocking up on the free goodies at the end too - I like your style.
Great result Mark! Having seen your running on Strava every week I can confidently say your consistency is paying off well now. What's the next 10k target then? Or are you focusing on something different?
Hi mate. Yes it's true what they say about consistency 🙂 Thanks a lot 👍 I'm working yup the distances now. The next race is a half marathon at the end of October, so I'll be aiming to beat my PB of 1:48, ideally going for 1:42, as tough as that sounds 😀
😁 yep made a conscious effort to stop the watch and ignore the camera for a bit this time! I think I'm getting the hang of this running lark... Cheers mate 👍

Congrats on the time! A solid run.
I have emitted the 'eurgh' noise in races, more usually because I am deeply uncomfortable lol.
Cheers, Jess! Looking back, I think those noises were quite prevalent all over the place, not just from people I was running past. I guess I'm too shy for doing much more than the inevitable heavy breathing most of the time! :)

Thanks mate! I think I earned the bonus cookie after running around in that weather lol :)
Yes Mark!!! What a run! Massive kudos bud! 👏🏅 I think the car that beeped you was probably a subscriber. 🤣👍
Thanks Ben! :) Amazingly another plan came together nicely on race day. You might be right about the car....never thought of that! lol.
Brilliant! That weather looked ace!! 😅😅😅
Cheers mate :) Terrific weather - not so good for us southern softies mind, but we battled through lol.
Brilliant! Well done Mark! Hope you’ve dried off and enjoyed your 2 cookies 🍪 Looks like I got the correct answer on the poll 😁
Well done on again on your 10k pb 🎉
Thanks, Rachel :) The cookies were scoffed before I set off for home! Glad I got two packs, I was starving after the race. Well done on the poll lol.
Let's go!! Awesome race! Way to push at the end
Thanks! I loved this race. Always wish they were a bit flatter, but it makes you work for the result when it's a bit lumpy :)
Just brilliant 😊 well done Mark!
Thanks, Angela :) I really enjoyed that one. Straight onto the next, even longer race now!
Amazing! Great to see the video and damn that horrible weather! Top result Mark.
Thanks a lot mate! I'm thinking I might need to get a bit used to racing in crappy weather given that my next two events are in October and November lol.

Super run that mark, huge congrats on your PB, well done 👏
Thanks, Jason :) Much appreciated mate!
Woo hoo!!!👏🏻
Yay! Thanks, Rachel :)
Get in 💪🏻 Paced to perfection mate. Well done!
Cheers Andy! Somehow stuck to the plan most of the way, and there's always a bit left for a "sprint" at the end. Thanks mate.
This is fantastic, Sparky. Great to see how the consistency and training has paid divedens. Well done!
Looks like a good race but not great weather.
Thanks mate. I'm enjoying my little purple patch, and hoping it continues into the half marathon next month.
It's a beautiful town even with the rain! You're a great racer!
Thank you, Dan :) Congrats on 700 subs as well!
Fantastic effort in very trying conditions. A huge well done on a great and well deserved result mate 🎉👏🏆🏃♂️
Cheers, Craig! It went really well, despite getting soaked from the start. At least it wasn't too hot :) Thanks a lot mate.
You absolutely smashed it out the park Mark 🎉🎉🎉🎉 I bet it took some real courage to not sit on the bench in the finish straight 🤣🤣 Thoroughly deserved mate 👊👊

Love the comments on other runners lol. Congratulations great job Mark!
Thanks a lot, Sid :) I think I've started using the colour of people's shirts to identify them during a race. Seems to work, lol.

Congratulations on the PB! Great run Mr.
Thank you! I had a really good run on the day, despite the heavy rain :)
Great video and commentary mark, even greater result 😜👍
Cheers Alan :) Enjoyed this one. Just switching into half marathon mode now!
Great job Mark, well earned PB! I hope you've not picked up a cold after running in this horrendous rain!
Thanks, Chloe! :) No sign of a cold just yet, thankfully. Straight into HM training, yay!
Great running - well done! And in those conditions too!
Cheers, Greg! A good race always puts a smile on your face. Hope you're feeling better after your recent bout of man-flu :)

@@markg99you should definitely do it!!
Great job mate. Awesome job 🤘
Cheers mate :) I'm watching your meaningful albums video while I go through my comments section! Now I've finally dried out after the race lol.

Smashed it dude 💪👊
Cheers mate! Love it when a plan comes together :)
Well done bro 👊 😎
Cheers bro :) Can't beat a wet weekend in Mansfield!

Impressive PB mate especially in those mildly moist conditions 😨😂 how did the new super shoes fair, did you notice much of a difference?
