WELL, MAT has introduced me to a lot of GREAT KITS… Now I might have to find this one, in fact after this review I’m looking on €Bay for it…. The HOBBY SHOPS here in OHIO, don’t carry AIRFIX kits I’m already liking this kit !!!!! YEP, MAT sold me…. Looking forward to the BUILD video… Thanks for putting this together…. You have my like 👍 CHRIS 🇺🇸
Excellent review. 👍🏻 The value for this kit is good. I have one in my stash, and yes it has a bit flash here and there on the parts. I just wonder what this slightly soft plastic is worth when assembling the parts and the condition of the joints between them. This kit is not the best in its category but it should give an honest result with careful work. Concerning the accuracy of the model, the small balance wheel under each fin, characteristic of the first versions of the Zero, is missing, and another regret is that the base of the canopy is a little too wide which gives the impression of a somewhat canopy. flattened (for information, the small balance wheels are among other unused parts available in the A6M5 Hasegawa kit). I also find the assembly design well thought out, and a beautiful cockpit. Good assembly if you build yours before I do it on mine. Best regards.🇨🇵
Always remember the scene from Only Fools and Horses, when Rodney says to Del, 'You don't know what ethics are, do you?' To which Del indignantly replies, 'Yes I do, they make model aeroplanes'.
It’s worth noting that airfix don’t actually produce the display stands with the two stubs anymore- but strangely they do produce and sell the older slot types. So a lot of cutting and sawing will be needed. I wish they would not do that.
looks like a nice little weekend kit. Wonder what could be done to make it shine? An open cockpit and better pilot. Wonder what aftermarkey detail bits there are to take a basic simple kit...and make it a super detailed version. Might make an interesting challenge.
@@ModelMinutes I did a search. Some REALLY detailed complete photo etch interior, a vac formed canopy that could be used to make an open one, photo etch exterior stuff like gear doors. Resin engine. According to Scalemates, it's possible to turn this into quite a detailed plane. At a price .....
'A basic and simple kit'? Go and build Airfix's original A6M2 from 1959 and see if you draw the same conclusions regarding this current iteration of the Zero. The older offering will be a really good test of your modelling skills. Go on, give yourself a challenge. Don't rely on aftermarket to bail you out all the time....do you?
@@markfranks1329 as far as kits by todays standards go, this is simple and basic. Comparing this to a 1959 kit as a challenge for “proper modelling” is just a joke
A quick way to really make the kit look better is to drill out the lighting holes in the seat. Takes a few minutes, and just looks so much better. I'm guessing it was too difficult to mould? I use a pin vice and a set of micro drills, on a bit of firm polystrene packaging.
I built one of these from the dogfight double boxing with F4F. not the most detailed model but still good for the price.
Yeah, its not bad

Glad i could help fuel your addiction again!
I built one of those in a Pearl Harbour white/sky scheme a while ago. They are rather nice little kits and enjoyable to build.
Looking forward to the build!

RIVETS.....GOTTA HAVE MORE RIVETS!!!......or is it more cowbell....I have an unhealthy addiction to old Airfix kits....
I do like vintage models because there is less "pressure"
Looks cool.

Many report issues around the nacelle to wing join. Look out!

i'm sure someone makes aftermarket parts for this somewhere

If I well remember, Hasegawa did a set of IJN personnel, pilots & mechanics, useful for dioramas.
